Please take over Jerusalem

For the last 29 years a treaty has been in place between Israel and Egypt. And for 29 years this treaty has lasted. It is a testament to the fact that when 2 nations want peace, it can and will be achieved.

On Saturday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abul-Gheit suggested that Egyptian soldiers take over security in Gaza, a proposal that Hamas's rival party Fatah has welcomed. Hamas has issued this reply:
Hamas spokesperson, Ismail Radwan, said that Arab countries should send their armies to the Israeli capital and take control of the city, which the Palestinian Authority (PA) wants as the seat of its proposed new country, which would include the Temple Mount, where Al Aqsa is located.

Al-Ajrami said that Hamas's rejection of allowing Egyptian troops in Gaza "proves that it has no decision to give up the authority it gained by force."

Abul-Gheit raised the idea of deploying Arab troops in an interview with a local October magazine on Saturday. "Having Arab troops on the ground could help prevent fighting and confrontations between the Palestinian and Israeli sides," Abul-Gheit stated.
Hamas is scared that Egyptian troops would force them to stop firing rockets into Israel. That Hamas would actually have to start acting like a government, not a bunch of gangsters. That Hamas would have to be accountable for all actions done in its name against Israel.

It might not be a bad idea for Egypt to take over Gaza again. They controlled Gaza from 1947-1967. And it was a shame that Egypt wasn't forced to take it back when the treaty was signed.

There are those in Egypt that welcome the chance for Egypt to attack Israel. The Muslim Brotherhood makes no qualms in wanting to take over Egypt and then attack Israel. They see it as their sacred duty to liberate the Al-Aqsa Mosque. No treaty would stand in their way.

They forget that they never have defeated Israel in war, the terms of the treaty state that if they attack Israel the United States would send US troops to help defend Israel, and the Egyptians would never be able to conquer Jerusalem.

But the Israelis could and would take back the Sinai, and in doing so they would effectively be able to control Gaza from all sides. Now that would be a good thing for Israel, bad thing for Egypt and the people of Gaza would be worse off then before.

Israel...surrounded on all sides by enemies. Some overt and some covert, but all enemies. May G-d grant her peace and prosperity and that she defeat all her enemies.
I don't believe that Egypt would have the guts to take on Israel ...certainly not at this point anyway. But the world is a very unsure place and changes today are swift and all-consuming. Israel's strength is in returning to her G-d and in a dynamic government. Olmert has to go.
