Guess Who's Meeting Today at the White House

Gary Fouse
fousesquawk

Hat tip to ACT for America

The below article is by Christine Brim of Bigpeace dated August 28th. (Liberal viewer warning- Bigpeace is one of Andrew Breitbart's blogs.)It looks like a lot of questionable folks are meeting with our government leaders today at the White House. Objective? Cash in on stimulus grants.

http://bigpeace.com/cbrim/2010/08/29/coming-august-31-direct-access-stimulus-grants-for-the-muslim-brotherhood/

For those of you not up to date on the Muslim Brotherhood. They are a movement based in Egypt that, while proclaiming themselves to be moderate, are the parent organization for all the other radical groups that have sprouted up-including al-Qaida. They are also connected to CAIR, ISNA, the Muslim Student Association(s) and any other organization you can name that has come under suspicion in the US. They were founded by a radical Islamist and their chief ideological spokesperson is radical imam Yusuf al Qaradawi, who lives in Qatar.

If any of the individuals or groups meeting in the White House today have any connection to the Brotherhood, they have no business being in the White House, and they have no business cashing in on government (tax-payer) money.

Why can't the White House reach out to true Muslim moderates like Steven Schwartz and Zuhdi Jasser?

Liberal Take on the Beck Event

Gary Fouse
fousesquawk

In preparation for Monday night's "Meltdown" with Keith Olbermann, I thought I would check out some of the liberal blogs for their take on yesterday's "Restore the Honor" event at the Lincoln Memorial. It's not pretty. Not very classy either.

Daily Kos:

"Alveda King, the niece of Martin Luther King Jr., has made a name for herself by using the King name to lend an air of legitimacy to political positions that seem, on their face, quite contrary to her uncle's politics. For example, this weekend, she is participating in Glenn Beck’s hatefest at the Lincoln Memorial, 47 years to the day after MLK stood in the same spot to give his “I have a dream” speech."

Huffington Post (Jason Linkins-Eat the Press)

"Today, Fox News Sunday kicks things off with an infomercial about Glenn Beck's "Restitching America's Hymen" Rally on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. And only after that, will the show take on the matter of the "bad economic news." It's going to be a good morning, for mescaline!"

Media Matters for America

Restore the Honor: Glenn Beck honors Glenn Beck.

Of course, we know that these folks don't like Glenn Beck, but could they not one time give credit where credit is due? I watched the event late last night on C-Span. There was no ugliness; there was no politics; there were no posters insulting Obama or Reid or Pelosi; there were no posters at all, at least that I could see. It was a positive event honoring America, our soldiers and God.

What's wrong with that?

Over 5 million dollars was raised for the children of troops killed in combat.

What's wrong with that? How much mention of that will you hear from the liberal press, Keith Olbermann and his band of regular nightly horse-holders?

Instead, they will talk up that negative-themed event held by Al Sharpton, who has more baggage than Beck ever will (Tawana Brawley, "white interlopers", etc.), in which Sharpton's main theme was "them vs. us". Yet, when it was all said and done, the only thing Sharpton had left to complain about was that Beck didn't deliver on his promise to give the crowd that "red meat" they surely had come to hear. Would it not have beautiful had Reverend Al marched his followers over to the mall to join in the celebration of America, God and our troops? They would have been welcomed. What a moving site that would have been. Instead, Al acted like a petulent child whose sandbox had been misappropriated, as if the Lincoln Memorial didn't belong to everybody.

Of course, we will hear the the crowd (at least according to the camera shots recorded by the media) was overwhelmingly white-as if that makes it equivalent to a Nuremberg Party Rally. Forget the fact that the African-Americans who appeared on stage to speak or sing received standing ovations. In the words of one California attendee who was interviewed on local radio in Los Angeles, it was because the crowd was "so grateful that they chose to come and participate with them". Martin Luther King's niece, Yet, Alveda King, who spoke at the event, is already being blasted by the liberal media- witness the Daily Kos remarks above.

So go ahead, liberal media. Rip yesterday's event all you like. I have a feeling it will only further turn off average Americans who, though not present, have watched at least some of it on TV and concluded,

"What was wrong with that?"

Rauf "Off-Mic"

Gary Fouse
fousesquawk

Hat tip to Atlas Shrugs

Atlas Shrugs has posted a fascinating audiotape of a conversation between Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf and radio host Mark Sommer in June 2006. The discussion was caught on tape on Sommer's radio show, "A World of Possibilities". It begins at the conclusion of the interview when both speakers assumed the mic was off.

It was not.

The tape runs about 13 minutes, but is well worth it. It gives an insight into Rauf's true agenda. Listen carefully to Rauf's analogies with football.

Let's cut beyond the soft-spoken style of Rauf's words and analyze them carefully. First of all, if this man is a "bridge-builder", whose mission in life is to foster peace and friendship between Islam and the non-Muslim world, then football is a strange analogy to use. What grand strategy is involved in a sincere effort in making friends? What "plays" are needed? Rauf talks about offense and defense. Everybody knows that offenses and defenses are constantly trying to outwit each other with their plays. Everybody knows that the objective in football is victory over the other side.

What possible analogy can be made between building bridges, making friendships and "plays"? What are some of the plays we see in football; the safety blitz, the reverse, double-reverse, statue of liberty, option play, hook and ladder, draw play, etc. All designed to fool the other side, right?

"But wait a minute, Fouse. How do you know that Rauf wasn't talking about soccer?"

Same thing. Soccer has plays and strategies even if we Americans don't understand them. Besides, if he was talking about soccer, what is the reference to sending in a particular player (like President Obama) for a particular play? No, Rauf is talking about American football.

You see, Rauf is talking about deception here. Football is among other things, a game of deception and strategy.

"Take what you can get."

What this tells me is that Mr Rauf is another deceiver, a man who poses as a moderate, a friend, but a man whose eventual goal is a world under Islam. He knows he won't live to see it, of course, but to men like Rauf, it is a long term project which can be accomplished in the long term without bloodshed.

"Give up on Israel."

Of course. In Rauf's vision, the US must abandon Israel eventually. He talks about an eventual accord between Israel and the Palestinians, but it is just another step in the process to the eventual disappearance of the Jewish state.

"Recognize Hamas." Yes, recognize a terrorist organization that categorically rejects any idea of negotiating with the Jewish state.

What Rauf is practicing is nothing more than deception with the West (Taqiyya), making the West think that reconciliation and friendship is the goal, when it is conquest-albeit in a peaceful manner, unlike the bin Ladens of the world. The goal is America as an Islamic state under shariah law, which Rauf has pretty much acknowledged in his comments about America becoming "shariah compliant".

And what is Madeline Albright's "useful idiot" role in all this, pray tell?

And to refer to the presidents of the US, UK and Malaysia as "players sent into a game for a particular play?" That kind of reminds me of when the Steelers had "Slash" Kordell Stewart, who would come in for a play or two and run a double-reverse, option pass or something like that.

Taqiyya or just a "useful idiot" option play?

Building bridges is not a strategy that involves deception and taking what you can get at the moment. It is a sincere, open attempt to live side by side in peace, respecting the other's right to exist as they are. It is not football or even soccer or chess. Football, on the other hand, is something entirely different. Who was it, Vince Lombardi, who said, "There is no substitute for victory"?

This man is no bridge builder.

Bloated Universities

Gary Fouse
fousesquawk

The below study by the Goldwater Institute was passed on by a friend, and since I work at a university (part-time), it is of interest to me. It concerns the bloated bureaucracy of US universities and explores the reasons.

http://www.goldwaterinstitute.org/article/4941

Now I am just a humble part-time teacher at the University of California at Irvine, but it sure looks to me that the Goldwater Institute is on to something. University of California campuses are stuffed with chancellors, vice chancellors, deans, asst. deans, and so on. At UCI, we have a vice chancellor retiring this month and nobody knows who is going to replace him-if anybody.

Here's an anecdote; Several years ago, a department at a UC campus blew a couple of hundred grand on some useless software program. To make up the money lost, they had to lay off ten full-time instructors. (Two of them never came back.)

That reminds me; Remember that important job that Michelle Obama had at the University of Chicago Hospital way back when hubby was a rising politician in Illinois?

Remember that huge raise she got when hubby became a US Senator? In 2005, she went from Executive Director of Community Affairs to Vice President of Community and External Affairs (a promotion). Her salary went from $121,910 to $316,962 (which was reduced as she converted to part-time in 2007 due to her husband's presidential aspirations).
(Source: Fact Check).

"That's a big f----' deal!"

In January 2009, she resigned. And who was chosen as her replacement in this vital position when she left? Well, nobody. The office was reorganized upon her departure.

But for all you UC Santa Cruz Community Studies majors, there is good news. The cost of all this is mostly covered by government subsidies.

Wednesday's Hero: Bataan Death March

Wednesday Hero has never been issued a warning before but I felt it necessary for this one. This post contains graphic descriptions of torture and brutality that some may find difficult to read.

This weeks Wednesday Hero is dedicated to thousands of men who lost their lives in April of 1942 in what has become known as the Bataan Death March.

On April 9, 1942 Major General Edward P. King, Jr. surrendered 75,000+ men (Filipinos, Chinese Filipinos, and Americans) who had been fighting the Japanese since January of that year when they launched a full scale invasion of The Philippines. They were starving and wracked with disease. Upon their surrender the men were robbed of their possessions and forced into a 61 mile, 5-12 day, march to Camp O'Donnell. Along the way men were brutally beaten, staved of food and water, some had their throats cut, some were beheaded, some died to disease or exposure or untreated wounds and others were simply executed. In all the death tally is unknown but it's estimated that between 6,000 to as many as 20,000 men didn't survive the march.

Maj. Richard Gordon: "I didn't come down with a surrender group. They caught me actually two days after the surrender took place. First thing I did was receive a good beating. And everything I had in my wallet, in my pockets was taken from me. And as I was marched down that road, where they captured me, I passed my battalion commander, Major James Ivy, and he had been tied to a tree and he was stripped to the waist and he was just covered with bayonet holes. He was dead obviously. And he had bled profusely. He had been bayonetted by many, many bayonets. And that's when I knew we had some troubles on our hands. We were in for deep trouble. And they brought us down into a staging area and put me in with the rest of the thousands that were assembled on the side of the road, and that's where I spent my first night."

Here's a great link with more information and interviews with survivors.

The sacrifice and Hell that these men went through will not be forgotten. I don't know about anyone else, but I never learned about this while in school. If you're children aren't being taught this piece of history make sure that you do it for them. These men must be remembered and honored.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

We Should Not Only Mourn These Men And Women Who Died, We Should Also Thank God That Such People Lived

Obama's Stimulus Costs More than Iraq War - Much More than Iraq War!

Mark Tapscott at the Washington Examiner quotes an American Thinker article by Randall Hoven. Obama's failed Stimulus spending cost more than the Iraq war. I was amazed at this for a couple of reasons - one being that I thought the Iraq war was the biggest expenditure known in the history of the modern world, but apparently not.

Stimulus Costs More than Iraq War

Hoven quotes elitists saying the Iraq War cost $3 trillion. The CBO tells Hoven the entire cost is $709 billion. I don't about you, but I feel much better now. I can think of several who are near and dear to me whom I will assault with these figures - gleefully, and often.

Here's a handy stat: the stimulus bill passed in Obama's first month in office costs 15% more than the entire Iraq War. Repeating, 15% MORE THAN THE ENTIRE IRAQ WAR.
* Obama's stimulus, passed in his first month in office, will cost more than the entire Iraq War -- more than $100 billion (15%) more.
* Just the first two years of Obama's stimulus cost more than the entire cost of the Iraq War under President Bush, or six years of that war.
* Iraq War spending accounted for just 3.2% of all federal spending while it lasted.
* Iraq War spending was not even one quarter of what we spent on Medicare in the same time frame.
* Iraq War spending was not even 15% of the total deficit spending in that time frame. The cumulative deficit, 2003-2010, would have been four-point-something trillion dollars with or without the Iraq War.
* The Iraq War accounts for less than 8% of the federal debt held by the public at the end of 2010 ($9.031 trillion).
* During Bush's Iraq years, 2003-2008, the federal government spent more on education that it did on the Iraq War. (State and local governments spent about ten times more.)
How many times can we repeat this between now and midnight November 1st? Read Randall Hoven's Iraq: The War That Bros Us -- Not, it's a handy piece to bookmark.

The Truth Behind The Ground Zero Mosque

The ruins of the World Trade Center and the ground that they occupied are considered by many people (myself included) sacred ground.  Thus the proposal for a Mosque to be built at Ground Zero is offensive to us, due to the nature of the attacks that day, the religion of the attackers and the joy the Muslim world had when the news of the destruction and death of that infamous day was broadcast to them.

The members of the left-wing  and their mouthpieces in the media are screaming how the Imam of this Mosque is a moderate, is a bridge-builder, is a true man of peace, a loving man.  Just listen to his views:

Why is it that Muslims cannot or will not accept responsibility for this atrocity?  In fact they are the biggest deniers of the truth behind 9/11.  They claim George Bush, the CIA, the Israelis, MI-5, and or the Mossad all did 9/11 to discredit Islam, attack Afghanistan and Iraq, kill Saddam Hussein and steal the oil of Iraq.

Now those who support this monstrosity have shown their true colors.  Listen to their noise, their hatred, their sense of self-righteousness.  No where do they check their rhetoric or anti-Semitism, even when it is known that they were being filmed.  Keep your eyes open around the 3:55 mark (Hat Tip to Israel Matzav)

For the record:  The majority of those you have just seen where bussed in from other cities.  It seems that the majority of New Yorkers are AGAINST this Mosque being built at Ground Zero!!

Now I ask you.  Who are the real racists?  The ones opposing the proposed Mosque or the supporters who blame 9/11 and now this ground swell of opposition on the Jews?

And The Tree Fell

Anne Frank found comfort in looking at the chestnut tree behind the Secret Annex. She often looked at it from the attic window, and she wrote about it in her diary. In this video you see the chestnut tree filmed with the Secret Annex in the background and from the attic window of the Secret Annex.

On August 23, about 1:30 PM (1330 hours) , this 150 year old tree fell, ending its life.
The monumental chestnut tree that cheered Anne Frank while she was in hiding from the Nazis was toppled by wind and heavy rain on Monday.

The once mighty tree, now diseased and rotted through the trunk, snapped about 3 feet (1 meter) above ground and crashed across several gardens. It damaged a brick wall and several sheds, but nearby buildings — including the Anne Frank House museum — escaped unscathed. No one was injured, a museum spokeswoman said.

"Someone yelled, 'It's falling. The tree is falling,' and then you heard it go down," said museum spokeswoman Maatje Mostart. "Luckily no one was hurt."

A global campaign to save the chestnut, widely known as The Anne Frank Tree, was launched in 2007 after city officials deemed it a safety hazard and ordered it felled. The tree was granted a last-minute reprieve after a battle in court.

The 150-year-old tree suffered from fungus and moths that had caused more than half its trunk to rot.

Two years ago city workmen encased the trunk in a steel support system to prevent it from falling, but that failed under windy weather Monday.

The Netherlands' Trees Institute, one of the most prominent supporters of the preservation project, said it was "unpleasantly surprised" by the news of the tree's fall early Monday afternoon.

"On the advice of experts in tree care, it had been calculated that the tree could live several more decades" with the support structure, the institute said in a statement.

"Alas, in the event it seems that nature is stronger."

The institute said it didn't know why the support structure had failed.

Many clones of the tree have been taken, including 11 planted at sites around the United States and 150 at a park in Amsterdam. It is not clear whether a new tree will replace the original one on the same spot, since it rests on property belonging to a neighbor.

The Jewish teenager made several references to the tree in the diary that she kept during the 25 months she remained indoors until her family was arrested in August 1944.

"Nearly every morning I go to the attic to blow the stuffy air out of my lungs," she wrote on Feb. 23, 1944. "From my favorite spot on the floor I look up at the blue sky and the bare chestnut tree, on whose branches little raindrops shine, appearing like silver, and at the seagulls and other birds as they glide on the wind."

She also wrote: "As long as this exists, ... and I may live to see it, this sunshine, the cloudless skies — while this lasts I cannot be unhappy."

Anne Frank died of typhus in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in March 1945. Her diary was recovered and published after her death. It has become the most widely read document to emerge from the Holocaust

Although this tree is now gone, it lives on in the world of Anne. It was a ray, a sign of hope for a better, brighter future.

Who is Behind the Firing of Prof. James Enstrom at UCLA?

Gary Fouse
fousesquawk

Mary D. Nichols
California Air Resources Board

Another troubling story out of California. Last year, I reported on a scandal involving the California Air Resources Board (CARB)and a study they commissioned that reported that diesel oil particulate was causing thousands of deaths. Based on this study by one Hien Tran, new regulations were passed that have resulted in huge monetary losses as well as job losses for the industries involved with diesel engines.

As previously reported, it turned out that Mr Tran had falsified his educational resume claiming he had a PHD from the University of California at Davis. In reality, all he had was a diploma from some diploma mill in London run by a guy who was living in Israel as a fugitive from the US on sex charges.

To make matters worse, the head of CARB, a radical environmental activist named Mary D. Nichols, appointed by Governor Schwarzenegger,....

....who commissioned Tran's study, learned of Tran's deception, yet chose not to advise her fellow board members as they were voting on and passing the above-mentioned legislation. In addition, Nichols remains as head of CARB, and Tran-though demoted- is still employed by CARB.

That brings us to this story by investigative reporter Lois Henry of the Bakersfield Californian regarding the recent firing of Professor James Enstrom from the UCLA Environmental Health Studies Department.

http://www.bakersfield.com/news/columnist/henry/x1415295919/Independent-thought-not-wanted-at-UCLA

Henry was interviewed today by the John and Ken radio show (KFI 640 am).

So if you are wondering who is behind the firing of Professor Enstrom, there is more. Enstrom's 2005 study was in contradiction to Tran's findings. In addition, Enstrom gave an interview on the John and Ken radio show, in which he exposed the fraud surrounding Tran and his study. And guess who is still listed as professor-in-residence at the UCLA School of Law and Institute of the Environment.

Mary D. Nichols.

So the question arises; what was Mary Nichols' role, if any, in the decision to fire Professor Enstrom after 34 years at UCLA?

But there is positive news. According to the article my school, UC-Irvine, has someone else not afraid to speak out. I don't know Professor Robert Phalen, but I would be pleased to buy him a beer based on what I read in Henry's article. Of course, one phone call from someone like Nichols, and perhaps, he will be the next to fall.

Or me for that matter.

Music For Shabbat

Once again I bring you a selection of music from the vault. Today it is:  Mozart's Eine kleine Nachtmusik [Serenade No. 13 for strings in G major](A Little Night Music).
Written in 1787, this is usually performed by a string quartet (2 violins, a viola, and a cello) but is also performed by orchestras.

It has 4 Movements.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
Born 27 January 1756 Died 5 December 1791, was one of the greatest composers of all times.

Mozart showed prodigious ability from his earliest childhood in Salzburg. Already competent on keyboard and violin, he composed from the age of five and performed before European royalty; at 17 he was engaged as a court musician in Salzburg, but grew restless and traveled in search of a better position, always composing abundantly. While visiting Vienna in 1781, he was dismissed from his Salzburg position. He chose to stay in the capital, where he achieved fame but little financial security. During his final years in Vienna, he composed many of his best-known symphonies, concertos, and operas, and portions of the Requiem, which was largely unfinished at the time of Mozart's death. The circumstances of his early death have been much mythologized. He was survived by his wife Constanze and two sons.

Mozart learned voraciously from others, and developed a brilliance and maturity of style that encompassed the light and graceful along with the dark and passionate. His influence on subsequent Western art music is profound. Beethoven wrote his own early compositions in the shadow of Mozart, of whom Joseph Haydn wrote that "posterity will not see such a talent again in 100 years."
Enjoy the music!

Obama Goes on Another Vacation!!!

Gary Fouse
fousesquawk

"Damn Republicans. Now I'll have to walk to Martha's Vineyard."

News item: Yesterday, President Obama blasted Republicans for "obstructing" a crucial jobs bill as he headed off to yet another vacation -this time in Martha's Vineyard.

People Have Noticed!

Hat tip to TexasFred

Here's a little ditty that sums up the Obama Regime completely.
“Apres moi le deluge”, “After me, the flood” and though attributed to the French King Louis XV, historians believe it was actually said by Jeanne Poisson, Madame de Pompadour. The last members of the monarchy spent France into the poorhouse until they had their heads separated from their bodies via the guillotine.

People have noticed the same eerie disconnect from the suffering of the populace as Barack and Michelle Obama party on. There has been a succession of vacations topped off by Michelle in Spain on the U.S. dime. Keeping track of the vacations, about seventeen this year, has become a media pastime.

Twenty months into his first and last term, President Obama, has wasted a trillion dollars we didn’t have on a stimulus package that was little more than a wish list of pet projects for Democrat congressmen and bailouts of the teacher’s unions whose members would otherwise have to join the long lines at the unemployment office.

People noticed.

Obama has had notably little success in foreign affairs, failing to draw the line with the Russians on issues of defensive missiles in Europe, managing to insult the British in a dozen ways, and being mocked by the Iranian leaders as they get ready to fire up a nuclear reactor.

People noticed.

When he finally decided what to do in Afghanistan, he made the announcement at West Point, including a date when the new infusion of troops would leave. The cadets slept through the speech and the Taliban circled their calendar for 2011.

People noticed.

Barely in office a day, he was all for closing down Guantanamo until he learned there was no place for the detainees. The states did not want them in their prisons and foreign nations did not want them for any reason. When his Attorney General wanted to try the mastermind of 9/11 in New York City the outcry was deafening.

People noticed.

Many of those he wanted to appoint to his administration turned out to be tax cheats or had to withdraw due to charges of unethical behavior or corruption. Despite a pledge to drive out the lobbyists, a number of appointees were lobbyists. A whole slew of “czars” turned out to include a number of loonies who were either outright communists or who believed weird science theories.

People noticed.

Despite widespread, vocal opposition, Obamacare was forced upon an unwilling America and now we are learning it will increase costs and deny care, just as we knew it would.

People noticed.

Bush had his Katrina, but Obama had the Gulf of Mexico oil leak. His administration mismanaged it beyond belief and then he arbitrarily shut down oil production from other rigs, adding more people to the unemployment lines.

People noticed.

Obama used the occasion of a Ramadan dinner at the White House to wade into the controversy regarding a plan to build a mosque within two blocks of where 3,000 Americans died from an Islamic terrorist attack. Then he had to back off what he said.

People noticed.

Obama appointed two women to the Supreme Court, both of whom think the Constitution was written on silly putty. One had never been a judge.

People noticed.

Muslim murder at Fort Hood, a failed Christmas bomber on a commercial jet, and another failed bomber in Times Square. The response to all three incidents was slow and very, very politically correct, tip-toeing around using the word “Muslim.”

People noticed.

Rather than take dramatic action to stem the flood of illegal aliens along the southern border, the Obama administration brought a suit against Arizona at the same time twenty other states are writing and passing similar legislation to enforce immigration laws. Then they threatened Sheriff Joe Arpaio with a legal suit charging that he was anti-Hispanic!

People noticed.

Along the way the Tea Party movement occurred and Nancy Pelosi called them Nazis. Harry Reid became even creepier than anyone could imagine. The voters elected Republican governors in Virginia and New Jersey, and a Republican Senator to fill Teddy Kennedy’s vacant seat.

People noticed.

On November 2nd, the voters will go to the polls for a midterm election and the odds are that many Democrats will just stay home while the independents and Republicans will turn out in huge numbers.

The power in Congress will shift, perhaps dramatically, because people noticed.

From Warning Signs: People Have Noticed
The people have noticed but do they care. The people are blind to the truth.  They are more concerned with the whores and pimps of Jersey Shore, with what JoLo or some other brainless Hollywood bimbo is doing, with anything other than what Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette Barack Hussein and  Michelle Obama is doing.

I just pray that the people come to their senses before those 2 (along with the useful idiots in Congress) destroy what is left of this Great Nation.

Lionheart 4G Warfare - The Ground Zero Mosque: Roger Gardner Tribute

Many of you know Luton, England's Paul Rey, more commonly known on the InterWeb as Lionheart. Paul was persecuted by the Muslims in his hometown not far from London, for speaking out against the outrages in his beloved homeland. He has experienced Islam in a far too personal way. The video is a history of how Islam gains its foothold. It is a raw look at our future. It is a warning we must heed. At the end of the video Lionheart has a short and heartfelt tribute to Roger Gardner, the master blogger at Radarsite who lost his battle with leukemia almost a year ago. Roger was a daily warrior against the Islamification of the United States. He wrote with fierce strokes of his keyboard - an impassioned and public love for our country. His voice was a warning cry. We need it more than ever today.

This video is a fine and sobering work, to be added to the volumes of documentation of Islam produced by Lionheart. If you have a spare minute, go by his blog, Lionheart, browse through the archives where you will find the truth about Islam in Britain, what is coming to America, and leave a message of appreciation.

Happy Ramadan!

Yes it is that time of year again.  The time of fasting from sun up to sun down,.  The time of restraining from eating and drinking during that time.  And the time of blowing up not only yourself, but  the infidels (if available) or your neighbor.
BAGHDAD -- A homicide bomber blew himself up Tuesday among hundreds of army recruits who had gathered near a military headquarters in an attack officials said killed 60 and wounded 125, one of the bloodiest bombings in weeks in the Iraqi capital.

The massive blast took place around 7:30 a.m. just outside the former Iraqi Ministry of Defense building that now houses the army's 11th division headquarters. The site receives about 250 new recruits each week as Iraqi security forces try to bolster their ranks to prepare for the U.S. military's looming withdrawal after seven years of war.

Blown-off hands and legs could be seen among pools of blood at the scene, which Iraqi soldiers closed off. U.S. helicopters hovered overhead as frantic Iraqis showed up to search for relatives.

At least two recruits who witnessed that attack raised the possibility that a car had also exploded at the scene, which could account for the high death toll. But a military spokesman blamed the deaths on a single homicide bomber.

"We were sitting there, and somebody began shouting about a parked car," said one of the recruits, Ali Ibrahim, 21, who suffered minor shrapnel wounds in the blast. Ibrahim said he had been waiting to get into the headquarters to secure a job since around 3 a.m.

"Then the explosion happened and I was thrown on my back," he said after his release from the hospital. "It was a tragic scene."

The recruits were gathered in an open area next to Maidan Square in central Baghdad as they waited to be let through the main gates in small groups, according to two Iraqi police officials who spoke on condition of anonymity. At least three soldiers were among the dead and eight among the wounded, the police officials said.

Officials at four Baghdad hospitals confirmed the casualties. All spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the media.

Iraqi Maj. Gen. Qassim al-Moussawi, a military spokesman, told The Associated Press that the blast was caused by a single homicide bomber who detonated his vest among the packed crowd. He put the casualty count at 39 killed and 57 wounded. Varying casualty counts are common in the chaotic aftermath of massive attacks.

Al-Moussawi blamed al-Qaida for enlisting the bomber, whose upper body was found at the scene, he said.

As many as 1,000 army recruits were gathered at the division headquarters, he added, because Tuesday was to be the last day for soldiers to sign up at the unit.

"We couldn't get another place for the recruits," al-Moussawi said. "It was difficult to control the area because it's an open area and because of the large number of recruits."

Iraqi security forces have been trying to boost their numbers as the U.S. military begins to leave the country. All but 50,000 U.S. troops will go home by the end of August, with the rest to follow by the end of 2011 under a security agreement between Baghdad and Washington.

But insurgents determined to highlight the Iraqi government's struggle to protect the nation have been stepping up attacks in recent weeks.

Iraqi army, police and other security forces have been targeted, but civilians also have been killed by the hundreds.

This summer has seen a spike in violence in Iraq. Data from the Iraqi defense, interior and ministry officials show that July marked the bloodiest month since May 2008, with more than 500 killed, although tallies compiled by The Associated Press and the U.S. military were lower.

August, which saw the start of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, has also been deadly. Two bombs that set off a power generator and ignited a fuel tank on Aug. 7. killed 43 people in a downtown market in Basra, Iraq's second-largest city.
Just the way to celebrate such a holy month!

Happy Ramadan to All!!!

Inside North Korea

This video was secretly filmed in North Korea, then smuggled out.  It eventually was obtained by a Japanese television network.  Hat tip to Gates of Vienna.

A woman prostitutes herself for 2 kg. (5 lbs.) of rice, children starving, unwashed, unloved playing in dirty streets. Sleeping in parks, on railroad tracks, without the hint of a shelter.  No hope, no future for these people.

Yet their great leader Kim Jong-Il and his cronies eat well, sleep comfortably, have fine clothing. They do not suffer from the sanctions.

Contrast the video above  to these propaganda photos.  If you only saw the propaganda you would believe North Korea to be a Paradise, not a section of Hell upon this Earth.

He Said What?

Very few things Barack Hussein Obama says or does surprise me any more.  Both he and his wife have shown their contempt for manners, decency and the will of the American people.  But this is a new low for Their Majesties Louis XVI and and Marie Antoinette Barack and Michelle Obama.
WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama on Friday forcefully endorsed building a mosque near ground zero, saying the country's founding principles demanded no less.

"As a citizen, and as president, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as anyone else in this country," Obama said, weighing in for the first time on a controversy that has riven New York City and the nation.

"That includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances," he said. "This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakable."

Obama made the comments at an annual dinner in the White House State Dining Room celebrating the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

Republicans were quick to pounce on the president's remarks.

"President Obama is wrong," said Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y. "It is insensitive and uncaring for the Muslim community to build a mosque in the shadow of ground zero. While the Muslim community has the right to build the mosque they are abusing that right by needlessly offending so many people who have suffered so much."

The White House had not previously taken a stand on the mosque, which would be part of a $100 million Islamic center to be built two blocks from where nearly 3,000 people perished when hijacked jetliners slammed into the World Trade Center towers on Sept. 11, 2001. Press secretary Robert Gibbs had insisted it was a local matter.

It was already much more than that, sparking debate around the country as top Republicans including Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich announced their opposition. So did the Anti-Defamation League, a Jewish civil rights group.

Obama elevated it to a presidential issue Friday without equivocation.

While insisting that the place where the twin towers once stood was indeed "hallowed ground," Obama said that the proper way to honor it was to apply American values

"Our capacity to show not merely tolerance, but respect to those who are different from us -- a way of life that stands in stark contrast to the nihilism of those who attacked us on that September morning, and who continue to plot against us today," he said.

Entering the highly charged election-year debate, Obama surely knew that his words would not only make headlines but be heard by Muslims worldwide. The president has made it a point to reach out to the global Muslim community, and guests at Friday's dinner included ambassadors and officials from numerous Muslim nations, including Saudi Arabia and Indonesia.

While his pronouncement concerning the mosque might find favor in the Muslim world, Obama's stance runs counter to the opinions of the majority of Americans, according to polls. A CNN/Opinion Research poll released this week found that nearly 70 percent of Americans opposed the mosque plan while just 29 percent approved.

A number of Democratic politicians have shied away from the controversy. New York's mayor, independent Michael Bloomberg, has been a strong supporter of the mosque, which has won approval from local planning boards.

The group behind the $100 million project, the Cordoba Initiative, describes it as a Muslim-themed community center. Early plans call not only for prayer space but for a swimming pool, culinary school, art studios and other features. Developers envision it as a hub for interfaith interaction, as well as a place for Muslims to bridge some of their faith's own schisms.

Opponents, including some Sept. 11 victims' relatives, see the prospect of a mosque so near the destroyed trade center as an insult to the memory of those killed by Islamic terrorists in the 2001 attacks. Some of the Sept. 11 victims' relatives, however, are in favor.
The Anti-Defamation League and the Simon Wiesenthal Center both have condemned the building of any Mosque so close to Ground Zero.  They call it impolite and uncaring on the parts of the planners.  This Mosque will only bring pain to those who lost a loved one, and promote hatred towards Muslims and Islam.  Something that is already happening.

It has been reported that President Obama already sees himself as a One-Term President.  If that is true, then it is time we start treating him as a Lame Duck.

Perseid Meteor Shower Peaks Tonight

From Space Weather:
PERSEID METEOR SHOWER: The annual Perseid meteor shower is underway. Earth is passing through a wide stream of debris from Comet Swift-Tuttle, and each time a fleck of comet dust hits Earth's atmosphere--flash!--there is a meteor. Forecasters say the shower will peak on Thursday, August 12th, and Friday, August 13th. You can see Perseids flitting across the sky at any time between about 10 pm on Thursday evening and sunrise on Friday morning. Observers who get away from city lights can expect to count dozens of meteors per hour, especially during the dark hours before dawn.

Tune into spaceweather for full coverage of the shower, including a live meteor radar, a "fireball cam," updated meteor counts and pictures from around the world.

BONUS: If you go outside a little early on Thursday evening, around sunset, you'll see a beautiful gathering of planets in the sunset sky--Venus, Mars, Saturn and the crescent Moon. It's a nice way to start a meteor watch. Sky maps may be found at SpaceWeather.
I am told that this year is one of the best, which explains why we are heavily overcast this year.  Because of that I offer this video of the Meteor Shower as a consolation to those in my circumstances.  ENJOY!

Is It Me?

I have been wondering if it was just coincidental or was there an other force trying to tell us or warn us or just wanting to screw around with us.  I am not alone in this.  Yaakov Kirschen, the creator of Dry Bones also feels this way.

The Asian Floods—Signs of Climate Catastrophes to Come?

"They haven't gotten anywhere near the attention they deserve, but the floods that have struck much of Asia over the past couple of weeks may be the biggest humanitarian disaster in recent memory—bigger even than the earthquake that hit Haiti in January and the 2004 Asian tsunami. Both of those catastrophes killed far more, but the floods have affected 13 million people in Pakistan alone, and parts of India, China and North Korea have also suffered from the rains. The floods will destroy homes and business, wreck agriculture and destroy infrastructure, leave disease and disability in their wake. Flooding in China has already killed more than 1,100 people this year and caused tens of billions of dollars of damage. In shaky Pakistan, where the public has been enraged by the government's typically fumbling response to the flood, it could even increase support for hard-line Islamic groups."-more

Wednesday's Hero: MaryAnn Phillips

This Weeks Post Was Suggested By Greta

This weeks post is a little different from the norm. It's honoring the 13 Men and Women who were awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal. People like George J. Weiss Jr. A World War II veteran who has made it his mission to provide military honors to deceased veterans at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. And Susan Retik who, after she lost her husband on September 11, 2001, started an organization called Beyond the 11th to help women in Afghanistan. And the person Greta wanted to honor. MaryAnn Phillips of Soldiers' Angels Germany who has made it her mission to help wounded service Men and Woman medevaced to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center. You can read about MaryAnn Phillips's nomination here.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives so that others may enjoy the freedoms we get to enjoy everyday. For that, I am proud to call them Hero.

We Should Not Only Mourn These Men And Women Who Died, We Should Also Thank God That Such People Lived

The Russians are coming. The Russians are coming. ...Roger G. is still on watch.

Our dear friend Roger Gardner (1936-2009) developed and maintained one of the most respected blog sites of its kind.  RadarSite was named after a real radar site in Labrador...Roger was stationed there sometime during the late 50's and the mission, among other watches, was to keep tabs on Russian aircraft that skirted the North American coastline.  As with many other political decisions Roger's former radar site was decommissioned (closed) for whatever reasons the politicians rendered.  Now that we have weak politicians running the show the Russians are back up to their old tricks and may be testing our resolve, but I have a feeling that Roger is still on watch (he must have signalled the Canadians). ~ Norman E. Communist Bloc Military Updates: Canadian fighter jets repel Russian bombers near Labrador coast, Ottawa's DM: Moscow gave no advance notice

This past Wednesday Canadian fighter jets repelled two Russian strategic bombers near the coast of Labrador. "The response as always was a rapid, effective deterrent," explained Canada's Defence Minister Peter MacKay, adding: "They were in the buffer zone. They did not give us any advance notice. We certainly weren't aware of what if any weapons were on board." One senior Canadian official described the attempted Russian incursion as "not the usual s--t."
There isn't a day that goes by that I don't wonder what Roger would have thought of this story or another.  To me he was the GOLD STANDARD of bloggers.

Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow Revisited

65 years ago today the United States did a very unusual bombing raid. It dropped one bomb on the City of Hiroshima.  I wrote the following piece 2 years ago, before Obama's election, before the lefts takeover of the United States.  Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow stands as warning to the world.
On August 6, 1945 the Enola Gay dropped one bomb. This bomb, code name Little Boy, exploded over the city of Hiroshima with a force of 12.5 kilotons of explosives. This first atomic weapon was a dirty bomb using less than 10% of its fissionable material. Whether it was right or wrong what the US did is not the point, nor can it be the point. It was done, thousands suffered and a city was destroyed.
Based on research thus far, it is believed that the atomic bomb exploded approximately 580 meters in the air over the Shima Hospital in Saiku-machi (now Otemachi 1 chome), about 300 meters southeast of the Aioi Bridge. At the instant of detonation, the temperature of the air at the point of explosion exceeded a million degrees Celsius (the maximum temperature of conventional bombs is approximately 5,000 °C). A white-hot fireball appeared millionths of a second after detonation. After 1 second, the fireball reached a diameter of approximately 280 meters. For the following three seconds, it emitted powerful heat rays, and continued to shine visibly for approximately 10 seconds.

At the instant of explosion, intense heat rays and radiation were released in all directions. The pressure on the surrounding air created a blast of unimaginable force. The cloud generated by the explosion rose on powerful updrafts. As the pillar of radiation-laden soot and smoke reached the bottom of the stratosphere, it spread horizontally to a diameter of several kilometers, forming a giant mushroom cap. Of the energy released, about 35% was in the form of heat, 50% was blast, and about 15% was radiation.

Because the A-bomb exploded close to the center of the city, and because 85% of the buildings were within 3 km of the hypocenter, destruction to the city was nearly complete, with 90% of buildings collapsed or burned. (August 1946 Survey by the Hiroshima City Government)

By December of 1945 approximately 140,000 dead (±10,000) as of the end of December 1945. (Of Hiroshima's estimated population of 350,000)
The destruction of Hiroshima took less than a minute, its effects are still being felt.
I wrote that in 2008 when North Korea had just become a member of the nuclear club, (A member who is selling the knowledge of how to make these weapons for hard cash and Hennessy Cognac.) Iran was facing very limited sanctions, and our leadership was strong.

Today, a new round of weak, ineffective sanctions has been imposed issued by the UN on Iran, we have a weak, feeble President who is more content to apologize for this attack then to understand the rational behind it, and North Korea is threatening Nuclear War with the US.

The threats from Iran towards Israel occur on a daily basis, and the US demands Israel to restrain from destroying Iran's nuclear capacity, even to cut funding for Israel's defense (Some Friend!).  And now the assessment on Iran is that they  will not stop their nuclear program.

Israel knows that if Iran gets a nuclear weapon, Iran will use it on any Israeli city. Tel Aviv, Haifa, Dimona, even Jerusalem would and could become the next Hiroshima. Israel's response would be devastating to Iran.

During the Cold War there were many occasions in which the Soviet Union and the United States stood at the prepicite of the abyss. What kept the two nations from going over the edge and taking the world with them was the fact that they would destroy each other and neither side would win. This Mutually Assured Destruction or MAD kept the world from blowing itself apart.

Unfortunately, MAD doesn't work with Iran. Iran is ruled not by sane, rational people, but by religious fanatics who actually believe that the destruction of Israel will bring back their long, lost 12the Iman (the Mahdi). They are eagerly working towards this goal. The Iranian people actually believe that if they were to die in a nuclear holocaust, they would go straight to Paradise and receive 72 virgins each. How do you combat such a mentality?

What happened on August 6, 1945 must not be repeated in the near future. If the world can't stop Iran, Israel must. For it is not only their cities that are at risk, but every city of the Civilized world is at risk.

On this the 65th anniversary of that day we must take a firm stand with Iran and tell them under no circumstances will we allow you to have a nuclear weapon!

It Is By Small Steps...

...that a Muslim teenager who converted to Christianity and fled her family due to their threats to traumatize harm her, is now one step closer to freedom.
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- A juvenile court judge in Columbus, Ohio, has granted a runaway Christian convert's request to declare reunion with her Muslim parents impossible, paving the way for the girl to fight deportation.

Magistrate Mary Goodrich said Thursday that reconciliation between Rifqa Bary and her parents isn't possible before she turns 18 on Tuesday. Goodrich also said it's not in the girl's best interest to return her to her native Sri Lanka.

Bary is an illegal immigrant. The ruling allows her attorneys to file for a special immigration status to allow her to stay in the U.S. while she continues medical treatment following recent surgery for uterine cancer.

Bary fled to Florida last year saying she feared harm for her conversion. Her parents deny she would have been harmed. The immigration status of the parents, who live in the Columbus area, is unclear.

Bary underwent successful cancer surgery in May and then was scheduled for 45 weeks of chemotherapy , which would give her an "80 to 90 percent chance" she'd be fine, Omar Tarazi, an attorney for Bary's parents, told the judge.

Instead, Bary stopped the chemotherapy after two or three rounds, deciding she'd been healed, Tarazi said. In a court filing last week, the girl's parents claimed she stopped after visiting a faith healer.

"The parents are feeling helpless," Tarazi said. "They feel like this is such a critical issue that it be in writing."

Goodrich said she understood why Bary's parents, Mohamed and Aysha Bary of suburban Columbus, filed the request. "I've never gotten the impression they didn't care very much for their daughter," she said.

A letter from Bary's doctor recommending the 45 weeks of chemotherapy indicates she is cancer free for now according to available imaging technology, Bary's attorney, Kort Gatterdam, told the judge.

The letter also says she suffers from a rare form of cancer for which there is no standard treatment.

Rifqa Bary stopped the treatment after becoming sick and in consultation with her doctor, Gatterdam said. He disputed the faith healer allegation, saying Bary had attended a prayer conference after which she continued with surgeries and other treatment.

"Rifqa's not saying she'll never do the treatment again, that she'll never do chemo," Gatterdam said. "She'll continue working with her doctor."
If Rifqa is illegal we all should be wondering how her parents were allowed to bring her into the US, what their legal status is, and how do they support themselves and their lifestyle?  There are many unanswered questions with this case.

One thing is clear, in 5 days Rifqa turns 18, an adult, and it looks like she enters into adulthood a free and independent woman, not subjected to the inequities that women live with under Shar'ia Law.

Missed Me!

There have been wild rumors reports flying around and out of Iran for the past few hours.  Was there an crude attempt on Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's life, or is it just rumor?  You decide.

Report 1Jerusalem Post
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was the target of a failed assassination attempt on Wednesday in the city of Hamedan in western Iran.

A handmade grenade struck one of the vehicles in a convoy accompanying the Iranian president. Ahmadinejad was not injured in the attack.

The vehicle carried journalists covering Ahmadinejad, several of whom were injured in the incident, television station Al Arabiya reported.

The blast took place in Hamedan as Ahmadinejad was about to address a crowd. He gave his speech as planned and it was broadcast live on state TV.

A source in Iran's presidential office denied the reports of the assassination attempt, Press TV reported.

Conservative Iranian website khabaronline.ir reported that one person was arrested in connection with the attack.

The Iranian president's car was about 100 meters away from the site of the blast, according to the report.
Report 2New York Times
TEHRAN — Iran rigorously denied reports on Wednesday that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad had been the target of a grenade attack.

Press TV, the state-run satellite broadcaster, quoted an unidentified “informed source” in the presidential office as saying the reports were false.

“Some foreign news sources published reports that a grenade exploded near the motorcade of President Ahmadinejad during his visit to the western city of Hamedan on Wednesday,” Press TV said. “The source denied the allegation, saying no such attack had happened.”

The denial came amid a confusing series of reports and rumors sweeping Tehran.

Earlier, Reuters quoted an unidentified source in President Ahmadinejad’s office as confirming that the Iranian president’s motorcade had come under an attack on Wednesday but he had escaped unharmed.

The source was quoted as saying that a homemade explosive device had exploded as the president was traveling from an airport in Hamedan to give a speech in a sports arena. One person had been arrested, according to the source quoted by Reuters.

William Yong reported from Tehran and Alan Cowell from London
If this was an attempt on Monkeyman's life, it was a very amateur attempt at best.  But what it really means is that the Green Revolution has gone from non-violent to violent.  Probably in response to the violence that was inflected upon the opposition during the upheaval of June 2009.

Routine Blood Tests Could Replace Colonoscopy

Every man or woman over the age of 50 dread the words from their doctor:  "We  are scheduling you for a routine Colonoscopy."  For those of you who don't know what Colonoscopy is, WebMD has a very good explanation:
Colonoscopy is a test that allows your doctor to look at the inner lining of your large intestine (rectum and colon). He or she uses a thin, flexible tube called a colonoscope to look at the colon. A colonoscopy helps find ulcers, colon polyps, tumors, and areas of inflammation or bleeding. During a colonoscopy, tissue samples can be collected (biopsy) and abnormal growths can be taken out. Colonoscopy can also be used as a screening test to check for cancer or precancerous growths in the colon or rectum (polyps).

The colonoscope is a thin, flexible tube that ranges from 48in to 72in long. A small video camera is attached to the colonoscope so that your doctor can take pictures or video of the large intestine (colon). The colonoscope can be used to look at the whole colon and the lower part of the small intestine. A test called sigmoidoscopy shows only the rectum and the lower part of the colon.

Before this test, you will need to clean out your colon (colon prep). Colon prep takes 1 to 2 days, depending on which type of prep your doctor recommends. Some preps may be taken the evening before the test. For many people, the prep for a colonoscopy is more trying than the actual test. Plan to stay home during your prep time since you will need to use the bathroom often. The colon prep causes loose, frequent stools and diarrhea so that your colon will be empty for the test. The colon prep may be uncomfortable and you may feel hungry on the clear liquid diet. If you need to drink a special solution as part of your prep, be sure to have clear fruit juices or soft drinks to drink after the prep because the solution tastes salty.
Dave Berry explained the Colonoscopy best:
I called my friend Andy Sable, a gastroenterologist, to make an appointment for a colonoscopy.

A few days later, in his office, Andy showed me a color diagram of the colon, a lengthy organ that appears to go all over the place, at one point passing briefly thru Minneapolis . Then Andy explained the colonoscopy procedure to me in a thorough, reassuring and patient manner. I nodded thoughtfully, but I didn”t really hear anything he said, because my brain was shrieking, quote, “HE'S GOING TO STICK A TUBE 17,000 FEET UP YOUR BEHIND!

I left Andy”s office with some written instructions, and a prescription for a product called “MoviPrep,” which comes in a box large enough to hold a microwave oven. I will discuss MoviPrep in detail later; for now suffice it to say that we must never allow it to fall into the hands of America’s enemies.

I spent the next several days productively sitting around being nervous. Then, on the day before my colonoscopy, I began my preparation. In accordance with my instructions, I didn”t eat any solid food that day; all I had was chicken broth, which is basically water, only with less flavor. Then, in the evening, I took the MoviPrep. You mix two packets of powder together in a one-liter plastic jug, then you fill it with lukewarm water. (For those unfamiliar with the metric system, a liter is about 32 gallons.) Then you have to drink the whole jug. This takes about an hour, because MoviPrep tastes – and here I am being kind – like a mixture of goat spit and urinal cleanser, with just a hint of lemon.

The instructions for MoviPrep, clearly written by somebody with a great sense of humor, state that after you drink it, “a loose, watery bowel movement may result.” This is kind of like saying that after you jump off your roof, you may experience contact with the ground.

MoviPrep is a nuclear laxative. I don’t want to be too graphic, here, but: Have you ever seen a space-shuttle launch? This is pretty much the MoviPrep experience, with you as the shuttle. There are times when you wish the commode had a seat belt. You spend several hours pretty much confined to the bathroom, spurting violently. You eliminate everything. And then, when you figure you must be totally empty, you have to drink another liter of MoviPrep, at which point, as far as I can tell, your bowels travel into the future and start eliminating food that you have not even eaten yet.

After an action-packed evening, I finally got to sleep. The next morning my wife drove me to the clinic. I was very nervous. Not only was I worried about the procedure, but I had been experiencing occasional return bouts of MoviPrep spurtage. I was thinking, “What if I spurt on Andy?” How do you apologize to a friend for something like that? Flowers would not be enough.

At the clinic I had to sign many forms acknowledging that I understood and totally agreed with whatever the heck the forms said. Then they led me to a room full of other colonoscopy people, where I went inside a little curtained space and took off my clothes and put on one of those hospital garments designed by sadist perverts, the kind that, when you put it on, makes you feel even more naked than when you are actually naked.

Then a nurse named Eddie put a little needle in a vein in my left hand. Ordinarily I would have fainted, but Eddie was very good, and I was already lying down. Eddie also told me that some people put vodka in their MoviPrep. At first I was ticked off that I hadn’t thought of this is, but then I pondered what would happen if you got yourself too tipsy to make it to the bathroom, so you were staggering around in full Fire Hose Mode. You would have no choice but to burn your house.

Finish reading here.
One of the major reason to have a Colonoscopy is to detect Colon cancer at an early stage.  And we all know that early detection can save your life.  So we submit to the humiliation of a 17,000 foot tube being shoved where the sun doesn't shine.

Until now.

Now there is real hope.  Researchers at Tel Aviv University's School of Public Health and Maccabi Healthcare Services' Department of Medical Informatics have discovered that routine blood tests can provide an early warning for colorectal cancer.
Anemia, a common blood disorder characterized by low hemoglobin levels, has long been associated with those suffering from colorectal cancer. It doesn't happen suddenly, however - and Tel Aviv University researchers say they have found that gradually decreasing hemoglobin levels can actually indicate a potential for colon cancer years in advance.

Graduate student Inbal Goldshtein, who works with Dr. Gabriel Chodick and Dr. Varda Shalev of TAU's School of Public Health and Maccabi Healthcare Services' Department of Medical Informatics, says that paying close attention to routine blood test results can be an effective screening system for colon cancer. Though some 50,000 Americans are expected to die from colon cancer in 2010, better screening leading to early diagnosis and effective treatment can significantly reduce those numbers, she says.

Goldshtein's study, recently published in the European Journal of Cancer Prevention, shows that most patients with colon cancer have a history of consistently declining hemoglobin levels up to four years before being diagnosed with the disease. Until now, only a sharp decrease in hemoglobin levels was sought out as an indicator of colon cancer. But Goldshtein and her fellow researchers have discovered that it's the continuous long-term decline that may announce the onset of the disease.

Specifically, a declining trend of more than 0.28 grams per deciliter every six months over a four-year period was observed - and as a result, may serve as a warning of illness on the horizon.

Over 3,000 patients suffering from colorectal cancer participated in the study, as did 10,000 control cases without colorectal cancer. Goldshtein and her fellow researchers looked at data from each participant's blood tests over a ten-year period, retrieved from the computerized database of Maccabi Healthcare Services.

Though hemoglobin levels may vary in everyone as a result of aging, a distinct trend was discovered among participants who had been diagnosed with colorectal cancer during the study period. Approximately four years prior to their diagnoses, their blood tests began to show a continuous decline in hemoglobin levels.

For the most part, Goldshtein says, these warning signs went unnoticed: "In practice, a doctor will look at the final results, and see if the hemoglobin levels are within a normal range. But this is not accurate enough. It is important to look at the continuing trend of each individual. If a person experiences a consistent decline relative to his own average level, it may be cause for concern."

The benefit of this screening process is that it can be part of an routine physical exam. Current testing for colorectal cancer is often expensive and unpleasant – and many people who should undergo the test do not do so.

The next step, says Dr. Shalev, is to create an algorithm which will automatically detect suspicious declines in hemoglobin levels, advising physicians to send their patients for further testing.
Not only have the researchers at Tel Aviv University have an easier test for colorectal cancer, but Prof. Shamgar Ben-Eliyahu, head of Tel Aviv University`s Department of Psychology has a new drug  treatment.
Cancer surgery wreaks havoc on a body`s immune system and stress hormones exacerbate the problem. As a result, about half of those who undergo surgery for tumor removal experience a recurrence of cancer in the same region or other parts of the body.

A new clinical approach being developed and tested by Tel Aviv University researchers may be the key to making cancer operations more successful. Prof. Shamgar Ben-Eliyahu, head of Tel Aviv University`s Department of Psychology, has opened on a new frontier in cancer research: he is recruiting colon cancer patients for a new clinical study which will test a cocktail of drugs to prevent the negative effects of stress responses to surgery. If successful, it will help the immune system maintain its vigor and prevent the occurrence of new tumors.

Combining two widely-known medications that affect immune and stress responses, Prof. Ben-Eliyahu has developed a formula he hopes will keep an immune system strong and prevent the recurrence of cancer. Already tested in animal models, the compounds will be employed in a clinical trial in Israel, for which Prof. Ben-Eliyahu`s team is currently recruiting patients and funds. They hope to have 800 colon cancer patients participate in the trial, due to begin shortly.
