Muslim Paranoia Results In The Death Or Crippling Of Africa's Children

On April 12, 1955 Dr. Jonas Salk announced that he and his team had developed a working vaccine to combat polio.  In 1962 Dr. Albert Sabin announced that he and his team developed a better vaccine for polio.  The world rejoiced in the news of both men.

And like Smallpox before it, scientists did believe that polio could be wiped out in a few generations.  It would have been but for one thing:  ISLAM.

According to a leading expert on Islam, Daniel Pipes, the dreaded polio disease is resurgent in the Muslim world, because of one man's paranoia.

Ten years ago, writes Pipes, polio was on the verge of eradication, when Ibrahim Datti Ahmed, president of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria and a physician, suggested in mid-2003 that the vaccination program in his country was part of a Western conspiracy to render Muslim children infertile.

“His call for an end to the polio immunization campaign touched a nerve and spread to other Muslim religious leaders in Nigeria, causing the vaccination process to slow down and incidences of the disease to pick up.

“From Nigeria, this dual phenomenon of conspiracy theory and re-appearance of the disease then expanded to Muslims internationally,” writes Pipes, who has been following the resurgence of the disease closely in his blog over the years. “So closely connected have Islam and polio become that the Muslim-only pilgrimage to Mecca became a major mechanism of transmitting the disease to faraway places like Indonesia.”

By now, he writes, Ahmed's paranoia has sent the new wave of polio from Nigeria to Muslim populations in at least 17 other African countries and 6 Asian countries:

In Africa: Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Central African Republic, Egypt, Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Mali, Niger, Somalia, Sudan, and Togo.

In Asia: Afghanistan, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen.

“A single conspiracy-obsessed Islamist,” Pipes sums up, “equipped with an organization and credentials, has caused polio not to be eradicated but instead to win a new lease on life.

“Thus has radical Islam brought misery to another aspect of human life – and made fellow Muslims its principal victims.”

I wonder if this paranoia is due to the fact that both Dr. Salk and Dr. Sabin were Jews.  Or is it a way to control their people.  Or perhaps both.

The children of Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Chad, Central African Republic, Egypt, Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Mali, Niger, Somalia, Sudan, Togo,  Afghanistan, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen are condemned to suffer from this disease.  A disease that cripples as often as it kills.  A disease that is preventable by not one but two working vaccines.  But to the Muslim mind it is an evil created by the West to destroy Islam.

Oh if it was only that easy!

Bad Medicine Based On Junk Science.

In 1998 Lancet published an article by Dr. Andrew Wakefield which linked the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine to autism.  Today Lancet retracted that article in its entirety.

The medical journal The Lancet on Tuesday retracted a controversial 1998 paper that linked the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine to autism.

The study subsequently had been discredited, and last week, the lead author, Dr. Andrew Wakefield, was found to have acted unethically in conducting the research.

The General Medical Council, which oversees doctors in Britain, said that "there was a biased selection of patients in The Lancet paper" and that his "conduct in this regard was dishonest and irresponsible."

The panel found that Wakefield subjected some children in the study to various invasive medical procedures such as colonoscopies and MRI scans. He also paid children at his son's birthday party to have blood drawn for research purposes, an act that "showed a callous disregard" for the "distress and pain" of the children, the panel said.

After the council's findings last week, The Lancet retracted the study and released this statement.

"It has become clear that several elements of the 1998 paper by Wakefield et al. are incorrect, contrary to the findings of an earlier investigation. In particular, the claims in the original paper that children were 'consecutively referred' and that investigations were 'approved' by the local ethics committee have been proven to be false. Therefore we fully retract this paper from the published record."

The retraction of a previously published paper is practically unheard of. It just isn't done, doesn't happen, and such an uncommon occurrence, that it is the medical equivalent of Hell Freezing Over.

For over a decade Hollywood starlet floozy Jenny McCarthy, has convinced the stupid, the gullible, the lame-brained parents of the world not to vaccinate their children.  And a good percentage of them did so.  So many listened to her that there have been major outbreaks of all three diseases.  So much for bimbos out of Hollywood.

Generation Rescue, an advocacy and support group founded by actress Jenny McCarthy, whose son has autism, expressed support for Wakefield. A co-founder of the group, JB Handley, called him "a courageous honest doctor who told an inconvenient truth." McCarthy is a high-profile proponent of the belief that childhood vaccinations may play a part in the condition.

Generation Rescue criticized the General Medical Council's judgment on Wakefield with this statement: "The sole purpose of the GMC's ruling this week is to try and quell the growing concern of parents that the expanding vaccine schedule and the remarkable rise in autism are correlated."

It also advised parents to do their own research before deciding to give their child the MMR vaccine.

Cases in which U.S. families have sued alleging a vaccine-autism link have had mixed outcomes.

In 2007, a U.S. federal program intended to compensate victims of injuries caused by vaccines concluded that a 9-year-old girl's underlying illness had predisposed her to symptoms of autism and was "significantly aggravated" by the vaccinations.

Two years later, three American families sought compensation from the Vaccine Injury Compensation Program, but the panel ruled that they had not presented sufficient evidence to prove that the vaccines caused autism in their children.

Why is it that a whore and bimbo like Jenny McCarthy says that vaccines cause autism the people of the world listen, but when  reputable scientists publish studies based on scientific methods and authentic research, they are ignored?

Jenny McCarthy should now get in touch with Dr. Faten Abdel-Rahman Khorshid, another purveyor of Snake Oil.  Between the 2 of them who knows how many children they can further harm?

Polio raises its ugly head in Pakistan due to the rantings of a fanatic cleric.

Polio, once a word that struck fear into the hearts of American parents, is preventable by a simple, and cheap vaccine. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC):

Poliomyelitis (polio) is a highly infectious disease caused by a virus that invades the nervous system.

Up to 95% of persons infected with polio will have no symptoms. About four to eight percent of infected persons have minor symptoms such as fever, fatigue, nausea, headache, flu-like symptoms, stiffness in the neck and back, and pain in the limbs which often resolves completely. Fewer than one percent of polio cases result in permanent paralysis of the limbs (usually the legs). Of those paralyzed, 5-10% die when the paralysis strikes the respiratory muscles.

Paralysis that can lead to permanent disability and death.

It is transmitted by contact with an infected person.

A childhood disease that is fatal. Polio has been virtually eliminated in the Western world by a marvelous vaccine.

There are two types of vaccine that protect against polio: Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV) and Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV). IPV, used in the U.S. since 2000, is given as an injection in the leg or arm, depending on age. Polio vaccine may be given at the same time as other vaccines. Most people should get polio vaccine when they are children. Children get 4 doses of IPV, at these ages: 2 months, 4 months, 6-18 months, and booster dose at 4-6 years. OPV has not been used in the United States since 2000 but is still used in many parts of the world.

It is estimated that the world could eradicate this disease in 10 years if a massive vaccination program was established.

But if clerics like Maulana Fazlullah have their way, the scourge of polio will once again darken our shores.

An eight-month-old Pakistani girl has tested positive for polio in an area where militants campaigned against vaccination, a World Health Organization official said Thursday.

The girl, identified only as Tanzila, comes from Ali Gram village in the Swat Valley where militants had "beaten up" anti-polio vaccination teams, said Dr Khalid Nawaz, a WHO official supervising local health authorities.

Nawaz said the last confirmed case of the disease in Swat had been in 2003. Tanzila is infected with type 1 polio, the most dangerous and contagious strain, he said.

Pakistan was one of the countries slated for a massive vaccination program against polio. It was poised to wipe out the disease, then the fanaticMaulana Fazlullah cried NO!

Threats to health workers and fighting between government security forces and militants have disrupted vaccinations in about half of the Swat Valley since September 2007, he said.

A Swat-based pro-Taliban cleric, Maulana Fazlullah, had reportedly opposed polio vaccination, saying it was a Western conspiracy to render Muslims infertile.

Last year, armed Fazlullah supporters took control of most of the scenic valley in Pakistan's volatile northwest before the army moved in and forced them into the mountains.

So children will be crippled for life or die and the clerics will cry: "It's the will of Allah!" And we are suppose to be happy for them.

If you don't believe that this diseases bring fear to parents, ask your parents or better your grandparents what it was like to live in a time when the summer months were known as "Polio Season". A time when schools, camps, and playgrounds shut down. A time when parents kept their children indoors for fear that they will contract the disease. A time when parents felt their hearts rush into their throats when their child said: "Mommy, I don't feel so good." A time when the news carried stories of how many children were infected and how long the epidemic would last. It was a time of fear.

No disease is ever the will of G-d. Polio is a disease that should be wiped off the face of the Earth, regardless of what a fanatical cleric says or thinks. And the Pakistani government should be sending in troops to make certain that their children receive this life-saving vaccine, not allowing a madman to purposely destroy their lives.

Middle East families shed light on autism genes: study

Autism is a brain development disorder that impairs social interaction and communication, and causes restricted and repetitive behavior, all starting before a child is three years old. Autism has a strong genetic basis. Autism affects many parts of the brain; how this occurs is poorly understood. Parents usually notice signs in the first two years of their child's life. Early behavioral or cognitive intervention can help children gain self-care, social, and communication skills. There is no cure. Few children with autism live independently after reaching adulthood, but some become successful, and an autisic culture has developed, with some seeking a cure and others believing that autism is a condition rather than a disorder.

Many causes has been given for why autism occurs. The latest fad in this is that the mercury used in vaccines causes autism.

As kids got more and more vaccines over the years, more mercury came with them - in amounts way over safety limits. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has long claimed it's not the cause of autism or related disorders, and mercury is still in flu shots recommended for babies this fall.

A half dozen childhood vaccines still have mercury,but the shots most kids get have little to none, so flu shots this fall are the biggest outstanding issue.

Scientists around the world set about to test this theory. And their findings were that there was no association between autism and vaccines.

The Institute of Medicine, a highly influential adviser of the government on scientific matters, said yesterday there is no credible evidence that either the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine or vaccines containing the preservative thimerosal cause autism.

The conclusion came in an 81-page report requested by two federal agencies to address the doubts raised by a small but vocal group of parents who question the safety of childhood vaccines.

But the public isn't buying this. Because a group of Hollywood celebrities, men and women with no scientific training or knowledge, say that vaccines cause autism. And of course the public believes the celebrities.

There is a downside to this. Measles, a disease that for 30 years had been virtually unknown in this nation, is on the rise. And so are deaths from the disease.

Measles has reached its highest level in the U.S. since 2001, with 64 cases confirmed since the beginning of 2008, the CDC reported in an early-release MMWR article. Cases have occurred in nine states, and outbreaks are ongoing in Arizona, Michigan, New York, and Wisconsin.

All but one case developed in unvaccinated individuals or those with unknown immunization status, highlighting "the importance of maintaining high levels of vaccination," the CDC says.

Parents so concerned with their child not getting autism, are neglecting to vaccinate their children from Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR). And of course these parents will then find someone to sue.

Now you might wonder why I bring this up. Other than to remind you to vaccinate your children. It's because a study has pinpoint six new genes implicated in autism. Yes real science, not Hollywood baloney.

The research "strongly supports the emerging idea that autism stems from disruptions in the brain's ability to form new connections in response to experience -- consistent with autism's onset during the first year of life when many of these connections are normally made," a team led by researchers at Children's Hospital Boston and members of the Autism Consortium said.

In traditional Arab societies, cousins commonly wed, making it more likely that rare mutations will be expressed, the team said in study published in Science.

And Middle Eastern families typically have significantly more children than those in the west, which makes them relatively more useful in genetic studies.

A genetic disorder not from an outside source.

In their mapping, Walsh of Children's Hospital Boston, along with geneticist Eric Morrow of Massachusetts General, and Seung-Yun Yoo looked to compare the DNA of relatives with and without autism.

They also looked for recessive mutations, where the disease is seen only when a child has two copies of a particular gene.

"We check each set of chromosomes from beginning to end looking for one place where the child has two identical pieces of DNA on both chromosomes," said Walsh.

"Eventually we find a spot where all affected children have two identical chunks of DNA, and where unaffected children have something different."

Slightly more than six percent of the 88 families had rare inherited deletions in DNA regions linked to autism, the research found.

The 88 families were from eight countries: Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.

"Interestingly, not all the affected genes were actually deleted, but only prevented from turning on, offering hope that therapies could be developed to reactivate the genes," the researchers added in their statement.

Now there is real hope for a cure. But of course the Hollywood types will scream that this isn't true and keep not vaccinating their children. And those children will keep getting sick.

There is no cure for autism but there is hope now. There is no cure for measles, but there is a vaccine. Taking vaccines will not give your child autism, but it will prevent your child from getting very sick. Sicknesses that kill. The choice is up to you. Do you listen to some actor from Hollywood, or a genetics researcher working on solving the autism mystery?
