Rhetoric will kill you!

Rhetoric is used by many leaders to convey a message to either their own people or to their neighbors or adversaries. Most times it is used as a threat against an opponent, a verbal warning of a nation's intentions towards another nation. Many times it can lead to war.

In the 1960's Gamal Abdel Nasser, then President of Egypt and his mouthpiece Cairo radio started spewing hateful rhetoric at Israel.

"Our aim is the full restoration of the rights of the Palestinian people. In other words, we aim at the destruction of the State of Israel. The immediate aim: perfection of Arab military might. The national aim: the eradication of Israel." – President Nasser of Egypt, November 18, 1965

"Brothers, it is our duty to prepare for the final battle in Palestine." – Nasser, Palestine Day, 1967

"Our basic objective will be the destruction of Israel. The Arab people want to fight . . . The mining of Sharm el Sheikh is a confrontation with Israel. Adopting this measure obligates us to be ready to embark on a general war with Israel." – Nasser, May 27, 1967

"We will not accept any ... coexistence with Israel. ... Today the issue is not the establishment of peace between the Arab states and Israel .... The war with Israel is in effect since 1948." – Nasser, May 28, 1967

"The armies of Egypt, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon are poised on the borders of Israel . . . . to face the challenge, while standing behind us are the armies of Iraq, Algeria, Kuwait, Sudan and the whole Arab nation. This act will astound the world. Today they will know that the Arabs are arranged for battle, the critical hour has arrived. We have reached the stage of serious action and not declarations." – Nasser, May, 30, 1967 after signing a defense pact with Jordan's King Hussein

"We are now ready to confront Israel .... The issue now at hand is not the Gulf of Aqaba, the Straits of Tiran, or the withdrawal of UNEF, but the ... aggression which took place in Palestine ... with the collaboration of Britain and the United States." – Nasser, June 2, 1967

"Under terms of the military agreement signed with Jordan, Jordanian artillery co-ordinated with the forces of Egypt and Syria is in a position to cut Israel in two at Kalkilya, where Israeli territory between the Jordan armistice line and the Mediterranean Sea is only twelve kilometers wide ... ." – El Akhbar newspaper, Cairo, May 31, 1967

Cairo Radio Statements:

May 19, 1967: "This is our chance Arabs, to deal Israel a mortal blow of annihilation, to blot out its entire presence in our holy land"

May 22, 1967: "The Arab people is firmly resolved to wipe Israel off the map"

May 25, 1967: "The Gulf of Aqaba, by the dictum of history and the protection of our soldiers, is Arab, Arab, Arab."

May 25, 1967: "Millions of Arabs are ... preparing to blow up all of America's interests, all of America's installations, and your entire existence, America."

May 27, 1967: "We challenge you, Eshkol, to try all your weapons. Put them to the test; they will spell Israel's death and annihilation."

May 30, 1967: "With the closing of the Gulf of Akaba, Israel is faced with two alternatives either of which will destroy it; it will either be strangled to death by the Arab military and economic boycott, or it will perish by the fire of the Arab forces encompassing it from the South from the North and from the East."

May 30, 1967: "The world will know that the Arabs are girded for battle as the fateful hour approaches."

With these types of statements and the Egyptian sealing off Straits of Tiran from traffic going to Israel, with the demand and removal of the UN Peacekeepers from the Sinai peninsular, it was only a matter of time before Egypt would attack Israel. Israel acted first, decisively and surprised the world with their stunning victory over 3 of the best equipped militaries in the Middle East.

That was the past. Today the same hateful rhetoric is being spewed out at Israel again. Not from Egypt but from Iran. Again the same old hateful is coming out from Iran. The threat of wiping out Israel from the face of the Earth is not a new one, but with the Iranian threat comes the possibility of a nuclear exchange. For make no bones about it, Iran is eagerly developing nuclear weapons.

Knowing that, Israel has turned to the international community for the last 5 years trying in a vain attempt to have them help stop Iran from achieving that goal. They have been thwarted time and time again by China and Russia, both nations are actively helping Iran in their nuclear program and making a small fortune in the process.

After 5 years, no real help from the international community, Israel has no other option. It must do what it did on 7 June 1981 against the Iraqi Osirak Nuclear Reactor and 6 September 2007 against the Syrian reactor in the Deir ez-Zor region.

Only in the last few weeks have the Iranians tried a demonstration of the so-called military might.

1. The test firing of their missiles and rockets.
2. The boasting that their jets can fly 3000 miles without refueling.
3. Their stepped up attempts at rearming Hizbollah and Hamas.

Just 3 of the numerous actions Iran has been taking in the last year. Taken with their rhetoric and the announcement of the Bushehr nuclear reactor will begin operating before the Persian New Year, March 21, 2009. Is it any wonder that a conservative estimate is that Iran will have a nuclear weapon by the middle of 2009.

Israel is preparing for such an attack. In June it held a military exercise over the eastern Mediterranean and over Greece. A dress rehearsal for what must be done. It will only be a matter of when Israel will strike, not if Israel will strike.


In other Iranian news. Comedy tonight!

Mohammad Baqer Zolqadr, deputy chief staff of the Iranian Armed Forces for Basij affairs, has said that an attack on Iran would lead to World War III.

He said that Iran was very familiar with the weak points of the U.S. military, had studied its fighting methods, knew its strength, and had prepared suitable answers to it.

I wonder if he is planning this as a nuclear attack on the US. For it would be the fastest war in history. Instead of 6 days, Iran would be eliminated in less than 6 hours. Historians would call it the Afternoon War. Again the rhetoric knows no bounds.

Iran has successfully built a robotic remote-control submarine that is capable of diving to 1,300 meters.

The planner of the submarine, Hassan Alavi, said that the sub could broadcast live images to its operators using photographic equipment installed in it.

Strange that they would use a robot. Where is the honor there? You don't get 72 virgins by piloting a robot sub from the armchair of your home. Why not do what the Japanese did in WW2?

The Kaiten was a torpedo modified as a suicide weapon, and used by the Imperial Japanese Navy in the final stages of the Second World War.

Early designs allowed for the pilot to escape after the final acceleration toward the target, although whether this could have been done successfully is doubtful. There is no record of any pilot attempting to escape or intending to do so, and this provision was dropped from later production kaitens, so that once inside, the pilot could not let himself out. In the event that an attack failed, the kaiten was fitted with a control for self destruction.

With so many men who want to be martyrs, this would be a cheaper and easier way to destroy those pesky US and Israeli boats.

A high-ranking official at the Iranian Qom Seminary School, Samamedding Ghavami, has called for the establishment of a new ministry under the name of "Ministry ‎of Waiting," to facilitate the emergence of Imam Zaman, the Messiah in Twelver Shi'a.

This is one of the stupidest wastes of money in the history of the world. A government ministry to await the coming of the Muslim Messiah! This ministry will have a long and fruitless lifespan. In a million years it will still be waiting for the Mahdi.

Sometimes I wonder if the Iranians have ever grown up from childhood. Looking at their news reports I doubt it.
