The Shape Of Things To Come!

The Shape of Things to Come is a work of science fiction by H. G. Wells, published in 1933, which speculates on future events from 1933 until the year 2106. The book is dominated by Wells' belief in a world state as the solution to mankind's problems.

And like all dreamers, liberals actually believe the propaganda of the One World Order being a benevolent dictatorship of the elites showering down their wisdom upon the unwashed masses.

A few days ago, the so-called experts and doctors examining the costs and effectiveness of early screening for breast cancer came down from their proverbial Mount Sinai and delivered the following pronouncement:

Women in their 40s should not get routine mammograms for early detection of breast cancer, according to updated guidelines set forth by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force.

Before having a mammogram, women ages 40 to 49 should talk to their doctors about the risks and benefits of the test, and then decide if they want to be screened, according to the task force.

For women ages 50 to 74, it recommends routine mammography screenings every two years. Risks and benefits for women age 75 and above are unknown, it said.

The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force is worried that women might get upset if they discover a lump in their breast. May have undue worry when they have their annual mammogram. It is just easier to pat the poor, dumb creatures on the head and send them back to the kitchen to cook their hubby dinner. Let the men decide what the best type of medicine you need to have.

Too bad nobody told these so-called experts that 15% of Breast Cancer survivors discovered their cancers in time by self-examination and routine mammograms.

Funny how this emerges just when Obama's health care bills have huge cost overruns in them. Strange that noone is looking to see how much money will be saved by insurance companies (especially government run ones) once they adopt these new recommendations.

But why stop with Breast Cancer. Why not continue on this idea and stop routine, yearly Pap Smears. After all, a false positive will lead to worry in that department.

Great Britain stopped Pap Smears for women under 25, and they were able to reduce costs by 10% (and increased cervical cancer deaths by 10%).

We could stop testing for Ovarian Cancer too. Why not? Not many women get Ovarian Cancer, and absolutely no men will contract the disease. According to the new ideas in Government Health Insurance, women's health doesn't really matter. So why even give the poor, defenseless things (they really cannot do much and are quite dumb about the world) yearly health exams. Once every 3 to 5 years will do better. If you let them even have that.

Oh the left talks big on equality. On Human rights. On cheep affordable Health Coverage for all. All except poor and middle class women. It is ok to let them die of a disease that is survivable if caught early and treated.

But not in the future America where the price of a test is worth infinitely more than a human life.

Rally For The Cure...

...But Only If You Are Not Jewish

Should be the new motto for the Susan G. Komen For The Cure.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and all over the world women are working for early detection and cures. So when a regional conference in the Middle East was planned it was automatically assumed that Israeli scientists and researchers would be included. They were originally. But then it was remembered that Israelis are Jews, and they were asked not to attend.

A United States-based organization's conference on breast cancer awareness, to be hosted in Egypt, has been touted by international news networks as an example of “unprecedented cooperation” in the region. However, according to Channel 2 news, the celebration of unity may be premature, as Israeli doctors were told at the last minute that their invitations to participate had been rescinded.

The conference will be held in Alexandria, Egypt this week, under the auspices of the American group Susan G. Komen for the Cure – the world's largest breast cancer advocacy organization. It is to include meetings between leading researchers from the U.S. and several Mideast countries.

Israeli doctors were invited to the event as well, and several had planned to attend. However, on Sunday night, the doctors received brief notices telling them that they were no longer invited to the conference, by order of Egyptian Health Minister Hatem el-Gabali.

The notices did not include an explanation of Gabali's decision.

Despite the cancellation of the Israeli presence at the event, Egyptian officials continued to praise the event as an example of regional cooperation. “The week's events are a demonstration of the cooperation between countries, governments, civil society, advocates, survivors, and the global community as a whole,” Dr. Mohammed Shaalan of Egypt's Breast Cancer Foundation told Reuters on Monday. “It shows that breast cancer has no boundaries and reveals the beauty of the world's unity in its fight against breast cancer.”

For the record the number of treatments or cures for Breast cancer that has been discovered in the Muslim world is 0. I will not include the bogus claim by Faten Abdel-Rahman Khorshid that camel urine is the cure for everything.

Yet the tiny nation of Israel, with limited funding, but immence talent is on the forefront of Cancer research.

Instead of standing up and doing the right thing by walking out, the Susan G. Komen group did nothing, said nothing, and allowed anti-Semitism to flourish just a little bit.

I know what I will do. I will never donate my money to this group of racists. I will find groups that will not sit idly by and allow their name to be used in such a fashion. And I will speak out and call this behavior by its true name: Anti-Semitism!

I feel after this behavior on their part they should change their logo from a pink ribbon to a pink swastika. It best describes their true feelings.

A New Treatment For Breast Cancer!

One in 8 American women will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer this year. That is an alarming statistic. Normal treatments always include radiation and/or chemo therapies. The side effects can be just as bad as the disease in many cases.

Now a joint US-Israeli team has discovered quite by accident a new treatment for this disease:

An Israeli-American research team has stumbled onto a new and interesting find - a non-radiation based therapy that may provide relief for an aggressive and hard to treat breast cancer cell known as HER2+, but which could also have wider applications for treating all kinds of cancer.

Prof. Zeev Gross, from the Technion / Israel Institute of Technology has played no small role in the new research paper that shows positive results for the new non-radiation based therapy based on the chemical compound gallium corroles.

Published in the prestigious Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the Israel-U.S. team, including scientists from the California Institute of Technology and the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center were able to show positive pre-clinical results on the new treatment that homes in on HER2+.

Using a new-to-science organic chemical called a corrole, described about 10 years ago, Gross was able to develop a powerful method that synthesizes these chemicals for practical use in medicine. From being able to make a couple of milligrams in two years, Gross' team could produce two grams in two days.

The beauty of the new chemical compound, waiting for an investment in order to go to clinical trials, is that it not only works in diagnostics, lighting up and showing doctors where the cancer cells are, it is also somehow able to kill the cancer at the same time. Gross has also found it works for treating arterial sclerosis, or hardening of the arteries, which leads to heart disease.

"We started in cancer wanting to take advantage of a property of this compound," Gross tells ISRAEL21c. "They are highly florescent and we wanted to use them to detect cancer. We found at the cellular level [gallium corroles were] useful for imaging, but also found it could kill cancer with high specificity and could be an alternative to chemotherapy.

"We were surprised," he continues. "It could be used for selective killing of cancer cells. Focusing on breast cancer cells, our collaborators developed a vector, a virus based gene delivery protein, and we said let's use it for corroles."

Testing this idea, the researchers were pleased to see the dual effects of this chemical. Gross explains: "In most cases, if people want to get a closer look at a drug in vivo, they have to attach a fluorescent probe to it - and that turns it into a different molecule.

"But in our case, the active molecule we're tracking does the fluorescing. We get to track the original, unmodified molecule and are hence able to follow its distribution among different organs in live animals."

In the new study the international team combined a gallium corrole with a protein carrier so that the corrole would show an affinity to cancer cells. According to the researchers, when tried on mice with breast cancer, it became a targeted cancer therapy able to both detect and eliminate tumors in mice. They report fewer side effects compared to other breast cancer treatments.

The Technion lab's senior scientist Dr. Atif Mahammed, an Israeli Arab is "a leading figure in this whole project," says Gross, who says his lab is also enriched with a team of gifted scientists from the former Soviet Union.

Funding for the research was provided by the United States-Israel Binational Science Foundation, the National Science Foundation in the US, the National Institutes of Health, the US Department of Defense, Susan G. Komen for the Cure, the Donna and Jesse Garber Award, the Gurwin Foundation, and the U.S. Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery.

Not only is this a breakthrough for Breast Cancer research, but it seems that this type of treatment will also work on the #1 killer of both men and women: Heart Disease. And they just stumbled upon this.

I wonder how many other diseases this treatment will be applied to with the same results.
