Unknown assailants detonated a bomb outside a popular cafe in Gaza City early Sunday morning, apparently part of a campaign by shadowy extremists to eliminate perceived symbols of Western influence.
The pre-dawn blast smashed the cafe's windows and damaged its door. No one was hurt.
Cafe owner Khalid Harbid said another bomb went off outside his cafe last month. He charged that Gaza's Hamas rulers are not protecting his business.
"My cafe has become Sderot," Harbid said, referring the Israeli town that is the target of daily Palestinian rocket fire.
A Hamas official said police were investigating.
I'm sure they are investigating. In between helping fire the rockets that daily rain down on Israel.
Over the past two years, extremists in Gaza have detonated bombs near cafes, hairdressers, record stores and institutions linked to the area's tiny Christian community, an apparent campaign to shut down Western-style or non-Islamic outlets.
Hamas said it offers protection to institutions that ask for it.
The mafia has the same policy. It is called The Protection Racket. And it seems that Hamas has learned one lesson from them.
The official said Hamas demanded all inappropriate sites be blocked. However, the telecom company cannot bring suitable equipment into the Gaza Strip to ban a large number of Web sites, the official said.
In the past, unidentified assailants have planted bombs at the entrances of Internet cafes, accusing them in printed statements of allowing customers to view pornographic Web sites.
As of Sunday, Gaza residents could still view many pornographic web sites.
The morals police are starting up again I see. I am not a proponent of pornography, and would be the first to condemn it, but this is a pattern of intimidation and thought control. First with pornography, then with Christian literature. Anything that is not strict Islamic propaganda is considered pornography to Hamas.
On Friday Hamas (though they deny it) attacked a Christian school.
Unknown assailants detonated a bomb outside a Christian school in Gaza City before dawn Friday, causing no injuries. The explosion was heard in surrounding neighborhoods at around 4 a.m. Damage was visible at the entrance to the Zahwa Rosary School, which is run by Catholic nuns but caters mainly to Muslim students.
Two nuns were in their convent adjacent to the school when the bomb went off, a school official said, and were shaken but unharmed. The official declined to be named, saying she was frightened by the incident and concerned for her safety
Friday's bombing was not the first attack on the school run by the Rosary Sisters. The school was ransacked in June, 2007, along with the nuns' adjacent convent, during a week of intense fighting that ended with Hamas' seizure of power.
Hamas wishes to control every aspect of a person's life. To create an Islamic state in Gaza. A state where women have no rights, must be covered head to toe. A state where free thought and free exercise of religion has no place.
It is not just Jews Hamas wants to destroy, but all people who will not kowtow down to them and become Muslims. They will not even allow a Dhimmitude, they wish for total annihilation of Jews, Christians, Druze, Baha'i. They seek to create their Islamic Utopia in Gaza, the West Bank and eventually Israel. The attacks on Christians are just one of their tactics, the rocket attacks on Israel are another. They will stop at nothing to achieve their goal.
The time for action has come. It is time for Israel to finally destroy Hamas and their terror plans for Israel. The patience of the people of the Western Negev is at an end, the nation calls for it. Why won't Olmert act and unleash the IDF? What is he waiting for? WMD's? Meanwhile, while Olmert does nothing the rockets rain down on Israel. The time of talk has passed, this is now the time for action.
Unleash the IDF Prime Minister and destroy once and for all Hamas and their ability to attack Israel!
