Which is it going to be? Cease-fire or not. We are getting conflicting messages from both sides.
First the Israeli position:
Israel announced Friday that "significant progress" had been achieved in talks in Cairo on a materializing ceasefire in Gaza.
The cabinet is set to convene Saturday evening to discuss the Egyptian initiative, by which Israel will announce a unilateral ceasefire while forces remain inside the Gaza Strip.
Defense officials said they expect Hamas will also cease its fire under these circumstances. During a briefing of the limited cabinet, the officials said that if the organization continued its fire, Israel would retaliate and the fighting would continue.
Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni told Ynet Friday evening that another military campaign would be launched in Gaza if Hamas did not cease its fire. "This battle is not a singular occurrence," she said.
Livni stressed that despite an agreement signed with the US in an attempt to prevent Hamas from smuggling arms into Gaza, "We will not abandon our fate in the hands of foreigners."
She added that even if the unilateral ceasefire were approved, Israel would continue to keep a watchful eye on Gaza. "We will keep our finger on the pulse and Hamas knows this. Israeli citizens should know that this is my obligation. If they raise their heads we act, with strength," the foreign minister said.
"Hamas must stand the test of deterrence", which would include a halt in all smuggling activity as well as the return of kidnapped soldier Gilad Shalit, she said. "We are putting this issue on the table."
To put this in non-politician speak:
We are kicking their asses, but the Dhimmi governments of Europe are afraid ofSo Israel will probably attempt a truce. So they are demanding that we cave it. Plus Condi Rice reminded us that Obama will become President on Tuesday. And he doesn't like us one bit.
- Losing their oil.
- An Muslim uprising.
The Arab position.
Hamas's top political chief rejected Israel's conditions for a Gaza cease-fire and demanded an immediate opening of the territory's borders, taking a tough line Friday as he asked Arab countries to back him by cutting off any ties with Israel. To put this in non-Jihad speak:
Khaled Mashaal spoke at a summit of Arab leaders in the Qatari capital, including Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
During the summit, Qatar and Mauritania announced that they would sever diplomatic ties with Israel. Qatar's prime minister, Sheik Hamad bin Jassem Al Thani, said the Israeli trade mission in the country will have about a week to leave.
Mashaal sought Arab support in a strongly worded address to the summit, insisting Hamas cannot stop fighting until border crossings into the Gaza Strip are opened.
"We will not accept Israel's conditions for a cease-fire," Mashaal told the summit. He said Hamas demands that "the aggression stop," Israeli troops withdraw and crossings into Gaza be opened immediately.
We are getting our asses kicked in Gaza. Our leaders are either dead or hiding like cockroaches and rats underground. One side will try it, the other will say they will but will continue firing rockets.
Although we got the MSM in the west squarely on our side, and our followers are calling for the death of all the Jews, we will stand tall, and act defiantly. In reality, we really need a truce to survive this war.
Talk us into a truce.
If there is a truce, how long do you think it will last? I won't give it 72 hours.

Personally I would love to see Israel drive all of the Gaza occupants either into Egypt or the sea.
