Two captured terrorists interviewed by Maariv/NRG say that Hamas was not expecting Israel's response to the escalation in missile attacks on Israeli targets that preceded Operation Cast Lead. One of them, a 52-year-old victim of a premature detonation who had already done time in an Israeli jail, said, "Hamas took a gamble. We thought, at worst Israel will come and do something from the air - something superficial. They'll come in and go out. We never thought that we would reach the point where fear will swallow the heart and the feet will want to flee. You [Israel] are fighting like you fought in '48. What got into you all of a sudden?"
Israel is back to its old self. It's army is stronger and better able to handle the thugs of Hamas. And it is showing. Already the major leadership of Hamas in Gaza has been killed. The rest are hiding like cockroaches.
The so-called "Iranian Unit" of Hamas has been destroyed, according to Gaza sources cited Thursday by the Haaretz daily. The sources said most of the unit's 100 members were killed in fighting in the Zeytun neighborhood of Gaza City.Let's get this clear. One rocket attack and a truce is over. No discussions, no negotiations, the resumption of fighting. Israel is very clear on this point. The terrorists had been trained in infantry tactics, the use of anti-tank missiles and the detonation of explosives, among other skills, by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard at Hizbullah camps in Lebanon's Beka'a Valley, as well as sites in Iran.
The IDF Southern Command has reportedly stepped up ground operations in Gaza, in anticipation of a ceasefire declaration in the near future. Senior officers said Thursday that there are probably no more than a few days until the end of the fighting.
According to the Arab sources, when that happens Iran will send money to assist Hamas in restoring its military capabilities, in addition to the more widely-publicized program of rebuilding destroyed homes.
They have plenty of young men like these ready and willingly to finish off Hamas. And they will do it. That is what Hamas and Iran actually found out during Operation Cast Lead. Israel isn't a paper tiger, it isn't a pushover. Not now. Not any more.
Israel is willing and able to kick ass when it needs to.
Strange as it sounds, Hizbollah actually stayed out of this war. They saw the fierceness and power of the IDF, turned to their Iranian masters and said: "No Way!"
And who really comes out of this war hurting?
The people of Gaza who were caught in the crossfire for one. They didn't want a war, but didn't do anything to prevent war either.
The UN who showed time and time again it's anti-Semitic self. Condemning Israel without a mention of Hamas or the terror the people of the Western Negev have undergone for the last 8 years.
Muslims and their supporters all over the world. For they have shown their true nature. No longer can they hide behind the mask of "The Religion of Peace." The truth of their beliefs have come to the forefront in remarks and riots during their so-called "Peace Protests". Never again can they say they believe in the tenets of Democracy and Freedom.
And Iran has lost. Its puppet state is in near collapse. The best unit it trained is wiped out, in a short period, and its credibility (if it had any to begin with), is shot. The best it can hope for is to rearm and reequip Hamas and try again for another shot.
And who comes out in a better position?
Israel. By showing her strength and muscle, Israel has gotten back her willingness to fight her foes. Israel has shown herself to be a small but mighty nation. One not to be trifled with without severe consequences.
We will see the obligatory "victory" parade for Hamas thugs. They will scream that they won Operation Cast Lead because Hamas is still around, that it survived. It only survived because Western governments are terrified that their Muslim minorities might riot even worse.
But let the truth be known. Israel has plenty of fighters ready and willing to finish the job they have started once and for all time.
