Mosque of the Nativity?

A friend of mine recently returned from a trip to Israel. While visiting Bethlehem and the Church of the Nativity he heard a most disturbing rumor:

With the Christians moving out of Bethlehem and the town being more than 80% Muslim, the Palestinian Authority is considering tearing down the Church of the Nativity and building a mosque on the site.

If this is true, it would be one of the worst crimes against religion since the Taliban destroyed the Bamiyan Buddhas.

Since the Palestinian Authority's take over of Bethlehem in 2006, the Christian population has gone from 85% to just a bit over 12%. The Church of the Nativity is mainly empty as is their collection boxes. And a feeling of fear fills the remaining Christians. Tour buses enter Bethlehem, the tourists go to the Church, then the buses leave. Once a Christian pilgrim would spend at least a day in Bethlehem, now the same pilgrim spends as little time as possible. An atmosphere of fear permeates the town.

This wasn't always so. Under Israeli control, Bethlehem and the Christians living there thrived. But since 2006 and the PA take over of the town Christians have been persecuted and forced to move out of the West Bank.

Palestinian Muslims have no respect for any holy site other than their own.
On April 2, 2002 armed Palestinian Arab terrorists forced their way into the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem, one of Christianity's most sacred sites, the birthplace of Christ. In the midst of over 200 nuns and priests, they sought refuge from Operation Defensive Shield, the Israel Defense Forces action against suicide bombing activity originating from West Bank locations. For 38 days, until May 10, 2002, the world watched as the gunmen refused to surrender their positions inside the Church. Only Israeli restraint and respect for the Christian shrine prevented the Palestinian desecration from turning into its destruction.
But they did desecrate one of the most holiest sites in Christendom. Stealing or destroying virtually everything of value inside the building. And the world let them get away with it.

I expected at least the Vatican to protest not only the 38 day siege, but also the destruction of the holy site. But not a sign from them, or any other Christian group.

This emboldens the Muslims. They know they can get away with anything against non-Muslims and the world will say nothing. So maybe the rumor isn't just a rumor and just a statement of what will happen.

And the Church of the Nativity will go the same route of the Bamiyan Buddhas. Destroyed and a new mosque built in the place.

Won't that be nice!

With the campaign season heating up, it was only a matter of time before the Obama campaign would start their enemies list. And they have started it with the Blogs. Either with the ok from the campaign or on their own, a group of Obamamanics have taken upon themselves to shut down Blogs that attack Obama. Sites like Come A Long Way, and Blue Lyon are now identified as a potential spam blog. Google's words not mine. They and 5 others all belong to the Just Say No Deal Coalition.

It will only be a matter of time before all of us who are speaking out against Barack Obama will be shut down. And thus they will have silenced us. But not for long. If you find that this site has been shut down by Google, it will be back up elsewhere. This I promise you.

Today in Jewish History

26 Sivan

In 1942, the advancing German army was stopped at El-Alamein in North Africa. Under the leadership of General Erwin Rommel, the Nazis threatened to annihilate the Jewish community living in Israel. So great was the threat that the Jewish Agency went about destroying its records, and rabbis distributed thousands of burial shrouds throughout the country. During this time, Rabbi Yosef Kahaneman (1886-1969), who lived in the Lithuanian town of Ponevich, escaped Europe and made his way to the Holy Land. Upon arriving on the shores of Tel Aviv, he proudly proclaimed: "I have come to establish a yeshiva. Rommel's troops do not deter me. Even if I am able to spread Torah learning for only a few days, that in itself would be of eternal significance." Rabbi Kahaneman built the Ponevich Yeshiva, and today it flourishes with thousands of students.

Who backed the anti-Israel conference in Germany?

It has been over 70 years since the horrors of the Holocaust has come to light. Yet this last week Germany's foreign and economics ministries hosted a conference that became a mouthpiece for anti-Semitic Iranian propaganda and a call for Israel's destruction.

I expected better from Germany, a nation where denial of the Holocaust is a criminal act. But it is also the nation where the Holocaust was conceived and implemented. So this latest bit of anti-Semitism should not really come as a surprise.

Iran's former deputy minister of foreign Affairs, Dr. Muhammad Javad Ardashir Larijani, told the Third Transatlantic Conference - whose stated purpose was to address "common solutions" in the Middle East - that "the Zionist project" should be "cancelled" and "has failed miserably and has only caused terrible damage to the region."

Representatives from Syria, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia also attended the conference and voiced brazen anti-Israeli statements.

This should have been expected by the Germans, but they did nothing and said nothing. Just let the hatefest go on.

"That neither the Foreign Office, nor Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier personally, forcefully contradicted Larijani's crude comparisons shows the double standards and complacency in dealing with the mullah regime," said Stephan J. Kramer, the General Secretary of the Central Council of Jews in Germany.
They wanted a contradiction? What next? An apology? After all they are just Jews. And Jews have no rights in Germany or the world.

On Saturday, the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman did not deny that her ministry had played a role in supporting the conference.

Additional German sponsors of the event were Peace Research Institute Frankfurt; the Berlin representative of the State of Hessen; the German Protestant Church (EKD); and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES) - a think tank with close ties to the Social Democratic Party (SPD). "It is nothing new that the FES is dealing with very weird anti-Israeli organizations and people," Middle East expert Thomas Von der Osten-Sacken told the Post. Von der Osten-Sacken, who heads the non-profit relief organization Wadi in northern Iran, blew the whistle on the FES's joint Beirut International Conference on the The Islamic World and Europe with the Hizbullah in 2004.

In addition to Hizbullah, Hamas was heavily represented at the FES-sponsored conference in 2004. The conduct of the Social Democratic aligned foundation FES prompted the Simon Wiesenthal Center to urge the Social Democratic Chancellor Gerhard Schröder to publicly condemn the conference. Steinmeier was then-chancellor Gerhard Schröder's chief of staff during the FES-Hizbullah conference in Beirut. "It is scandalous," said Von der Osten-Sacken about the government providing a platform in Berlin for Iranian officials to demand "the extinction of Israel."

The conference's location - close to both the Holocaust memorial and the former Nazi center of power - carries great weight in Germany because of its history. While visiting Israel in March, Chancellor Angela Merkel declared the security of Israel to be part of Germany's overall national interests.

If you look like a duck, walk like a duck and talk like a duck; chances are you are a quacker. And Germany today is not looking forward but look back. Looking to the days of Hitler and Nazism.
Kramer said that "anti-Israel statements and the renewed denial of the Holocaust at a conference supported by German tax money, by the FES, the Foreign Office, the SPD and EKD, and held in Berlin on the 70th anniversary of the Reich Pogrom Night call into question the official government expression of solidarity with Israel."
I cannot say if the average German today in that nation feels the same way that their nation now does, but to my eyes the nation of Germany has hit a new low. That the old hatred for the Jews is rearing its ugly head and Germany is too scared to anger its Muslim citizens or just has slid into Dhimmitude to challenge it.

As if the Government of Germany becoming anti-Semitic, just look at Professor Arnd Krüger of the University of Göttingen. He was a reporter during the Munich Olympics and claimed to have known some of the murdered Israeli athletes. He now claims that recently that the 11 Israeli sportsmen killed during the 1972 Munich Olympics knew of the coming terror attack in advance and decided to sacrifice themselves for the sake of their country.
Krüger, reported some of the attendants in the lecture, even went as far as to suggest that the athletes knew of the impending attack and decided to stay on the premises and sacrifice themselves for the sake of Israel's interests.
How nice to know that Professor. And he actually believes it too. A good Hitler Youth he was. Learned everything he needed to know about Jews from his Nazi teachers.

Krüger denied ever saying he believed the Israeli mission to the Munich Olympics knew that it would be targeted, but added that "one has to assume that the sportsmen who stayed in the village knew it had poor security.

"In fact, the security was so substandard, that it was practically an open invitation to terrorists. The Israeli journalists reported about that. The athletes spoke about it. One has to wonder why they decided to stay anyway."

Actually Professor, the Israelis and the world didn't expect for Muslim terrorists to destroy those games. But then again they were held in Germany, so killing Jews was an acceptable thing in that nation.

This and other hate crimes against Jews shows that the Germany of old is starting anew. And that is a scary thought.

"I'll rip apart 6-year olds."

Sometimes you just have to wonder about some Legislators. Take Massachusetts State Representative James H. Fagan (D) who in against Jessica's Law said the following:
"Let me tell you why it's so wrong," said Fagan (D-Taunton). "It's so wrong because in these situations . . . that 6-year-old is going to sit in front of me, or somebody far worse than me and I'm going to rip them apart. I'm going to make sure that the rest of their life is ruined. That when they're 8 years old they throw up; when they're 12 years old, they won't sleep. When they're 19 years old they'll have nightmares and they'll never have a relationship with anybody. And that's not because I'm a nice guy. That's because when you're in court, and you're defending somebody's liberty, and you're facing a mandatory sentence of those draconian proportions, you have to do every single thing you can do on behalf of your client. That is your obligation as a trial lawyer."

View the video at YouTube

Jessica's Law named for Jessica Lunsford would give stiff penalties to those who would rape children. Putting them in prison for many years, keeping them away from children. But this bottom-feeder known as James Fagan, a former trial lawyer who defended these creatures, would have them roaming the streets of America, destroying our children.

I have often wondered about the State of Massachusetts? Why they keep passing one extremely liberal law after the other. Why they hate the honest and decent folk of the nation? I am sure that the majority of the people in the state of Massachusetts aren't pedophiles or those who support pedophiles, but they do have a funny way of showing their displeasure with their elected officials.

My Day in Haifa

From MEMRI

Liberal Syrian Journalist Abi Hassan: My Day in Haifa

On May 30, 2008, the liberal Arab website Al-Awan published an article by Syrian journalist Abi Hassan, in which he describes what he would do if he were in Haifa.

The following are excerpts:

"I Have Been Saturated Ever Since My Youth… With Hatred for Israel and Love for Palestine"

"Our EgyptAir flight was en route from the Cairo airport to the airport in Damascus. In front of the passengers' seats was a screen showing the flight trajectory and the place over which the plane was flying.

"From the screen, it seemed to us as though the plane would be passing over Palestine - over Haifa, in particular. Just before we reached Haifa's airspace, the widescreen stopped showing the flight trajectory and the place over which it was flying. Instead, it started to show announcements about the importance of the hijab and encouragement to wear it, and so on.

"It seems that the flight crew had stopped showing the flight trajectory over Haifa out of respect for the sentiments of the Syrian passengers. But even now I don't know what the point was of putting on an announcement about the hijab and its 'importance,' precisely at that time and in that place. Did those in charge want to remind the 'believers' among the passengers that the 'liberation' of Haifa starts from the hijab and being scrupulous in wearing it?

"Whatever the reason, I imagined that the plane had encountered technical difficulties, forcing the captain to land in Haifa, or anywhere else in Israel.

"What would I do? In truth, a number of distressing thoughts drew me in - especially since I have been saturated ever since my youth, in my school education and my social education, with hatred for Israel and love for Palestine. Nonetheless, I was assailed by satanic thoughts whose allure I was unable to overcome, despite their bitterness."

I Would Like to Ask the 1948 Arabs If They Would Rather Live in Mecca or Qom

"If we landed in Israel, I would definitely try to walk in the streets of its cities and neighborhoods - not with intent to seek out 'the memory of the vanquished' and the weary that Faisal Darraj conjured up [in his book by that name]. Rather, I would want to see whether there are, in any of Israel's cities, neighborhoods like Bulaq or Imbaba in Cairo… I would want to see whether there are Israeli citizens who live in cemeteries, as people do in the Cairo of Muhammad Hosni Mubarak. Researchers put the number of those living in Cairo's cemeteries at 500,000.

"I don't know whether I would see in Haifa neighborhoods of misery like those surrounding Damascus, the capital of Syria…

"Yes, I hoped to land in Haifa, to see if I would run up against religious police, like the infamous Saudi Wahhabi-terrorist police that goes by the name of 'The Authority for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice.'

"How nice it would be to run across a rabbi, so I could ask him if he believes the earth is round - it is well known that to his dying day the late Mufti of Saudi Arabia, 'Abd Al-'Aziz bin Baz, declared anyone who says the earth is round an apostate."

I Would Like to Ask an Israeli Politician How It Is that They Have Free and Fair Elections

"No doubt, it would be tempting to land in Haifa. Perhaps I would run into one of the 1948 Arabs [i.e. Israeli Arabs] - not in order to ask him whether he would prefer to live in the West Bank or Gaza rather than in the state of the artificial 'entity,' but to ask him whether he would prefer living in Mecca or Qom to living in Haifa…

"Yes, it would be nice to land in Haifa. Perhaps there I would run across emergency laws like those (permanent) laws that hinder the natural development of human society in most of the Arabic-speaking countries.

"How lucky I would be if I chanced to meet an Israeli politician, so I could ask him the secret of how it is that their country - sorry, I mean their artificial entity - is the only one to hold free and fair elections and to have peaceful handovers of government. Not to mention that any of their officials can be held accountable - and all of that in contrast with their Arab cousins…"

"I Had No Thoughts Whatsoever of Throwing this Neighbor… Into the Sea"

"[I would like to ask a rabbi] if the rabbis there meddle in the compiling of the school curricula, as do the patriarchs of Islam in a not insignificant number of Arab and Islamic countries - where through their meddling in the educational curricula they place an impenetrable barrier between the rational mind and the students - all for nothing, just out of fear of Allah!...

"I wanted to land in Haifa so that I could find out what the Jewish clergy though of the great scientist Einstein's scorn for the texts of the Torah, and why they don't stand up as one to curse Einstein from their pulpits, as is the case with us? It would be tempting to hear their views on the Jewish-Israeli archaeologist who stated recently that he thought that Moses was on drugs.

"Lastly, it was truly strange that I was not drawn in by any thoughts on the extinction of the Hebrew state - or the Zionist entity, as some like to call it. I had no thoughts whatsoever of throwing this neighbor, which asks the friendship of the Arabs, in secret and openly, into the sea, as the pan-Arab and Islamist slogans have called for. And I am much amazed that I did not think about any of the proclamations of Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad threatening Israel with extinction!

"I was drawn in by many idle dreams above Haifa. They were interrupted suddenly by the plane's landing at the Damascus airport. I learned that there are limits to my dreams, even if they are just idle ones."

On a personal note: I normally don't post more than one MEMRI article a week, but when I read this one, I had to post it. I do believe that Abi Hassan would find Israel a wonderful place to visit and hope that he will be able to one day. He would find the nation of Israel a very modern, open land filled with joy and hope.

UPDATE: Fairfax County and the ISA

Yesterday the Saudis complained that the attacks on the Islamic Saudi Academy (ISA) was unfair and Islamaphobic. This was heard all over the Islamic world via al Jazeera. You can view a clip of the attack here. You can image the uproar all over the Islamic world. I'm surprised that there haven't been riots over it.

So what did Fairfax County do? They caved in and surrendered to the Islamists. Even though the ISA teaches hatred and bigotry. Even though the ISA has been sited by the US Commission on International Religious Freedom for the hatred they teach their students. Even though the 1999 valedictorian of the school, one Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, has been convicted of conspiracy to assassinate the president, conspiracy to hijack aircraft and providing support to Al Qaeda. They cave in to Muslim demands.

The efforts of United American Committee (UAC), as a part of an interfaith coalition of grassroots organizations, have resulted in the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors (BoS) calling for a full U.S. State Department investigation of the Islamic Saudi Academy. The UAC’s Virginia and New York chapters have worked with the Traditional Values Coalition, ACT! For America’s Virginia and Maryland Chapters, Center for Security Policy, and Stop the Madrassa to demand transparency, due diligence, and accountability from local and Federal government. This coalition has made a difference.

On June 23, 2008, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, responding to public outcry, unanimously reversed its support of the Islamic Saudi Academy, and called for the U.S. State Department to investigate the school. Though the UAC applauds the BoS’s decision to demand such an investigation, the UAC disagrees with the BoS’s claims of ignorance regarding the ISA. Given the preponderance of available government reports, and the testimony presented to the BoS during a May 19, 2008 hearing on the ISA, the BoS only remained unaware of relevant information due to its own preference. The UAC questions how the BoS on May 19th, proclaimed their investigation of the ISA sufficiently resourced and conclusive, yet now claims the County lacks the capability to conduct an adequate investigation.

The school is allowed to teach hatred, but will condemn anyone for bringing this to the nation's attention. Outside of the principal of the school being arrested for obstruction of justice. Outside of Congress investigating the teaching materials of the school and finding them full of anti-Christian and anti-Semitic rhetoric, there hasn't been much investigation.

Oh yes. They are being persecuted. What they actually mean to say is that they should be prosecuted. And closed down immediately. They are a private school on taxpayer land. And that means the taxpayers can ask for the land back immediately.

Help close down the Islamic Saudi Academy now.

Join the United American Committee, Traditional Values Coalition, ACT! For America, Center for Security Policy, Stop the Madrassa, and a growing group of concerned citizens, in demanding transparency, due diligence, and accountability from our government. Visit Saudi Watch on how to help.

The pot calling the kettle black!

I thought that I had heard of every Chutzpah that the Muslim world could throw at the West, but this time they have a new low of accusations. Now it seems that the Islamic Saudi Academy is the subject of Persecution because they are Muslims.

View the clip from al Jazeera

This is the school that the US Commission on International Religious Freedom cited that the textbooks used in a American School promote violence, discrimination, or intolerance based on religion or belief.

Given the fact that the ISA is run by Saudi Arabia, and that the textbooks used in the school are the same ones used in Saudi Arabia; the Commission was correct to condemn this school for the hatred that the school is espousing.
The Commission has long called for Saudi Arabia to be designated a “country of particular concern,” or CPC, for its egregious and systematic violations of religious freedom. In particular, the Commission has expressed concern about the promotion of religious intolerance and religion-based violence in official Saudi government textbooks used both within Saudi Arabia and at Saudi schools abroad, such as the ISA. The Commission has been urging the U.S. government to press the Saudi government to promote religious tolerance in the Saudi curriculum since 2001, and in 2003 it issued an in-depth report about religious freedom conditions in Saudi Arabia, including intolerance and incitement to violence found in Saudi textbooks and the country’s official educational curriculum. It was not until September 2004 that the State Department first publicly expressed concern over the Saudi government’s “export of religious extremism and intolerance to other countries” at a press conference announcing Saudi Arabia’s CPC designation.
So how did the ISA and the Saudi Government respond to this? Instead of changing the textbooks and removing the hatred, they decided to attack the Commission and the United States, calling both racist and Islamicphobic.

From the transcript of the tape:

Reporter: "We are at the Islamic Saudi Academy in the state of Virginia - the largest institution teaching the Arabic language and Islamic education on the East Coast of the U.S. However, this institution faces mounting pressure, and this is a nightmare for the families of the students enrolled in the academy. This pressure is being brought to bear by several Congressmen, known for their great hostility towards Arabs and Muslims.

"However, the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom, which was established by Congress, has recommended that the academy be shut down, alleging that its religious curricula, which are taught in Saudi Arabia as well, included material inciting to racism and intolerance towards other religions. [The commission] did not even talk to those in charge of the academy, let alone visit it."

I guess that finally reading the hate filled textbooks was enough to understand exactly what is being taught at the ISA. Given the fact that the 1999 valedictorian of the school, one Ahmed Omar Abu Ali, has been convicted of conspiracy to assassinate the president, conspiracy to hijack aircraft and providing support to Al Qaeda. I am sure his picture is proudly displayed on their walls.

Again from the transcript:
Reporter: "The local authority of Fairfax County, where the academy is located, has challenged the threats of closure. It determined that the allegations are invalid, and it approved the religious curricula after examining them. The non-Muslim teachers also expressed disgust and frustration at the allegations."
Considering that the School's principal has been arrested for allegedly covering up a 5-year-old girl’s report of sexual abuse by her father. And considering that the school has promised to clean up the offensive textbooks.

Yet the school and Saudis are attacking the Commission even though it is now emerging that this school has been a hotbed of anti-American, anti-Christian, and anti-Semitic hatred for years and a breeding ground for terrorists. And when the US government after years of being stonewalled finally discovers what the true nature of the Islamic Saudi Academy is. They are being called racists.

And that is the pot calling the kettle black.

Flight 93: Park Service refuses to say who broke the circle

Blogburst logo, petition

The planned Flight 93 memorial is described as a circle "broken in two places," with the unbroken part forming a giant Mecca-oriented crescent (originally called the Crescent of Embrace).

Since last week, the Park Service has been inundated with hundreds of emails, demanding to know WHO is being depicted as breaking the circle.

It can only be the terrorists. The circle is a symbol of peace, and only the terrorists can be charged with breaking the peace on 9/11.

Thus the planned memorial shows the terrorists breaking our peaceful circle and turning it into a giant Mecca oriented crescent (which remains completely intact in the so-called redesign). In other words, it's one giant: "ALLAHU AKBAR!" (heard on Flight 93's flight recorder as the doomed flight careened towards the ground).

Superintendent Hanley's reply

Our emailers are getting a lengthy response from Memorial Project Superintendent Joanne Hanley that fails to address the question of who broke the circle. She mentions the question, then heads off in another direction:
You also had questions about "who broke the circle." The natural topography of the site upon which the memorial sits is in the shape of a bowl, or a circle. This "circle of embrace" follows the geography, and points your attention down to the Sacred Ground, the crash site where the 40 heroes of Flight 93 gave their lives combating the terrorists. The trees surrounding this "circle of embrace" are missing, or broken, in two places; first, where the flight path of the plane came overhead (which is the location of the planned memorial overlook and visitor center) and second, where the plane crashed at the Sacred Ground (depicted by a ceremonial gate and pathway into the Sacred Ground).
No, the topography is NOT a bowl. The upper arm of the crescent starts 100 vertical feet above the crash site while the lower arm circles 50 vertical feet below the crash site. Beyond misrepresenting the topography, all Hanley does is admit that the circle is broken at the point where the flight path crosses it, without ever addressing the simple question of WHO is being depicted as breaking the circle?

This circle-breaking theme is the Park Service's OWN explanation for the crescent design (passed on from architect Paul Murdoch), and they refuse to even THINK about what it means.

Park Service Director Mary Bomar is even more oblivious

Director Bomar also received our emails. The response she is sending out does not even acknowledge the question of who breaks the circle:
Thank you for your e mail of June 24, 2008, concerning the Flight 93 National Memorial. The National Park Service (NPS) is aware of these concerns, and took steps in 2005 to investigate this issue. Please be assured that we are all committed to having a national memorial that conveys the full honor due to the heroes of Flight 93, not to the terrorists. Our priority now is to move forward with the building of the memorial, and to continue to commemorate those heroes who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.

You may want to visit the park's website for more in-depth information
at: www.nps.gov/flni.

Mary A. Bomar, Director, National Park Service
Actually it was in 2006 that the office of Mary Bomar herself (then a regional director of the Park Service)"took steps," utterly fraudulent steps, "to investigate this issue."

The Park Service's own consulting expert, a professor of Sharia law at Indiana University named Kevin Jaques, admitted that the giant Mecca-oriented crescent is similar to the Mecca-direction indicator (called a mihrab) around which every mosque is built, but he assured the Park Service that there was no need to worry because no one has ever seen a mihrab anywhere near this BIG before:
Thirdly, most mihrabs are small, rarely larger than the figure of a man, although some of the more ornamental ones can be larger, but nothing as large at [sic] the crescent found in the site design. It is unlikely that most Muslims would walk into the area of the circle/crescent and see a mihrab because it is well beyond their limit of experience. Again, just because it is similar does not make it the same.
This is the information that Mary Bomar had in her hands TWO YEARS AGO: a blatantly dishonest excuse for not being concerned about what was admitted to be the geometric equivalent of the Mecca-direction indicator around which every mosque is built, only bigger than any ever seen before by a factor of a hundred. "Don't worry. It might be recognizable as a mihrab to people on jetliners like Flight 93 flying overhead, but from the ground? Pshaw!"

Every iota of the Mary Bomar's phony "investigation" was just as blatantly fraudulent. (Extended expose here.)

Another letter?

We can keep on dumping emails on the Memorial Project if we want. Our petition to stop the memorial asks if signatories want to join an email list for doing things like forwarding emails to targeted individuals. Most are clicking "yes," and the present campaign has as yet only tapped the first few thousand signatories.

Perhaps it is time for another letter, pointing out that:
Misrepresenting the topography of the crash site to be a bowl does nothing to answer the question of WHO BROKE THE CIRCLE. (Press people can read about the non-answers from Superintendent Hanley and Director Bomar here.)
Go ahead if you have a mind to. (Email link here.)

The Solution to the Palestinian Problem has been staring us in the face.

Jordan!

Yes the solution to the whole Palestinian refugee problem is Jordan. So it is being talked about now by an advisor to John McCain.
Jordan is in an uproar over the revival of the "Jordanian option" - the thesis that Jordan is the true home to the "Palestinians." Reports that a top advisor to US Presidential candidate John McCain is promoting this idea have led to a flurry of press reports in the Arab media, as well as a denial from Jordan's King Abdullah himself.

The King responded defensively to the option, declaring in an interview with a Lebanese newspaper last week, “This country was made to stay. Jordan is Jordan and Palestine is Palestine."
His majesty is not exactly true. Yes Jordan is a separate nation from the West Bank (it once occupied the West Bank) and Gaza, but history will show that there was never a nation of Jordan until 1922.

For those of you who have forgotten your 20th Century history, this is what happened.

The Formation of Jordan

The League of Nations (predecessor to the UN) granted to Great Britain the land known as Palestine (Israel) to run as a protectorate in 1917. Before that time, the Ottoman Empire ruled the area. But with the defeat of the Ottomans, their empire was up for grabs by the victorious Allies. France claimed the area that would become Syria and Lebanon. England got Palestine, and what would become Iraq and Kuwait.

In 1922 Great Britain created Jordan out of 2/3 of the Palestinian Mandate as a reward to Abdullah I of Jordan for his support to Great Britain in World War I. There was no historical reason for this gift and there has never been a nation called Jordan before. But at the time, if a Great Power wanted to do something. It did.

So now there was a new nation and it was populated with what one day would be called Palestinians.

Now we come to the crux of the matter. Why can't the Palestinian people just become part of Jordan?
"The Palestinian nation has the right to a state and independent identity on the areas of Palestine," said King Abdullah II. "The Palestinians will not accept any substitute for their homeland Palestine."

Though Arabs today call Israel "Palestine," MK Benny Elon (National Union) told IsraelNationalNews that in this case, "the words 'Palestinian homeland' can mean Jordan as well... Certainly Abdullah himself remembers that the original Palestine includes Jordan - but perhaps he assumes that everyone else does not."
Actually he has a good reason not to want these terrorists into his nation. He wouldn't be king of Jordan for very long. Another bit of history explains this.

Black September

At one time Jordan actually did let in Palestinian refugees. After the 1948 war many Palestinians fled to Jordan and started new lives. But after the 6-Day War of June 1967, thousands of Palestinians fled to Jordan. King Hussein gave many of them refuge and tried to absorb them into his nation. But these Palestinians began to bite the hand that fed them. By September 1970 they demanded total control of the Jordanian government and eventually they attempted to seize control of Jordan and assassinate King Hussein and his family. Needless to say that King Hussein was fed up with these malcontents and kicked them out of his nation. One of these was dear Yassir Arafat who denied any involvement but was one of the instigators of the attempted coup.

I can understand why King Abdullah II wouldn't want any of the new batch of malcontents in his land now.
The idea has been making waves in Jordanian and other Arab media as well. The English-language The National, published in Abu Dhabi, reported this week that the news that a top advisor to John McCain had raised the idea - even though the advisor, Robert Kagan, later denied having done so - has "brought to the forefront hidden anxieties in a country that hosts the largest Palestinian refugee population." The paper reports that 1.9 million refugees and their descendants currently live in Jordan - nearly a third of the country's population. Some reports state that the refugees comprise half of Jordan's populace.

“There is a conspiracy to revisit this option ['Jordan is Palestine'],” The National quotes Mohammad Abu Hdeib, who heads the Jordanian parliament’s Arab and international affairs committee, as saying. “Such a scenario would be an end to the Jordanian state. It also contradicts international resolutions that call for an independent Palestinian state.”
It is a shame that we cannot get Jordan to accept all the refugees. It would be a perfect solution to a problem that actually was created by Great Britain when they created Jordan.
For years, Elon has been promoting a peace plan called The Right Road to Peace, or the Israel Initiative, as an alternative to the accepted Roadmap two-state solution. "The establishment of a Palestinian state in Judea, Samaria and Gaza (the West Bank) will only prolong the Arab-Israeli conflict and exact a heavy toll in human life," Elon explains.

His plan's website elaborates on this point, explaining that forming such a state will not solve the "real problems that perpetuate the conflict: The Palestinian demand for the right of return of refugees to areas within the State of Israel, the rehabilitation of the refugees, the status of Jerusalem, and the nature of the Palestinian state and its borders. Within a short time, these unresolved problems will resurface and draw the region into yet another war."

Elon told Arutz-7 that the plan to give the Arabs of Judea and Samaria citizenship in Jordan is the "only way to re-route diplomatic talk away from the dangerous Roadmap."

It could work, I'm sure money could be found to help settle the new refugees. The Palestinian people would have a nation of their own with a strong government and king. There is already a peace treaty with Israel in place. And this would solve the whole Palestinian refugee problem with a place they could call home. Now all we have to do is convince them the beauty of the solution.

Today in Jewish History

Sivan 22

In 1902, the Yiddish daily newspaper, "Die Yidishe Velt," was founded in New York. Yiddish is a colloquial mixture of German and Hebrew, and came to be the spoken language of much of European Jewry. Following the influx of Jewish immigrants to America, Yiddish was increasingly heard on the streets of New York, and by 1925 New York alone had seven daily newspapers printed in Yiddish. According to the U.S. census of 1940, 1.75 million Jews spoke Yiddish at home. Today, Yiddish words like chutzpah, klutz, schmaltz and schlep have crept into mainstream English usage.

Today Yiddish is making a resurgence with many young men and women learning the language anew. I was fortunate to learn Yiddish by listening to my mother, her sisters and my grandmother all talking in it. Although I'm not fluent in the language, I do understand it, and through it German.

Olmert is on the way out!

Israel is faced with a multitude of problems. Iran trying to acquire nuclear weapons, Hamas rearming for further attacks, and Hezbollah preparing to destroy Israel. Through the last years the Prime Minister of Israel has been Ehud Olmert. He has led the Kadima party through a disastrous war with Lebanon, economic stagnation and is one of the most corrupt Prime Ministers that Israel has ever had. Olmert has done everything to try and stay in power. He has agreed to a truce with Hamas (without the release of Gilad Schalit), offered to give up Jerusalem and the Golan Heights (something the majority of Israelis do not want), and has refused to resign even though he has been investigated 5 times for corruption and bribe taking.

But now it seems that Olmert's days are numbered. On Wednesday a bill will be voted on in the Knesset that will dissolve the current government. Until now, Olmert and the Kadima party was able to hold their coalition government together. But now the Labor party has decided to vote for the bill.
The Labor party caucus decided a short time ago to back party chairman Ehud Barak and vote against the government Wednesday on a bill to dissolve the government. The decision effectively is the last nail in the coffin for the government of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert.

Three Labor Knesset Members, Education Minister Yuli Tamir (Labor) and MKs Amir Peretz and Yoram Marciano did not vote on the caucus decision. The bill, sponsored by Likud MK Silvan Shalom, has the backing of the other key coalition party, Shas, as well as Opposition parties.

With his coalition gone, Olmert has very few options. If the bill passes, then sometime after it, Ehud Olmert will hand in his resignation.

According to the sources, Olmert has yet to consult with his advisors on the issue, but his associates have already examined the possible outcomes of such a move and are expected to present their position to the prime minister.

"If the Knesset dissolution bill passes on Wednesday, the choice will be between resigning or having to face the government's collapse following a no-confidence vote," an Olmert aide said. "We'll have to seriously weigh both options.

Another Olmert associate said that in case the Knesset dissolution motion passes and the Shas ministers are fired, "Israel will have a minority government that would not be able to function and would be considered a joke".

In case Olmert resigns, an interim government would run the country until a new one is established or until general elections are held.
Labor Party Chairman Ehud Barak stated that he could support a new coalition government with Kadima heading it. This would mean that Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni could become the next Prime Minister of Israel (the second woman to do so).

It is doubtful that Kadima could form a new coalition and that sometime in November elections will be held. Whether Kadima under Livni's leadership could win enough seats to form a new government is doubtful. General consensus is that the Likud party will be asked to form a new government before the year's end and that their leader Benjamin Netanyahu will become Prime Minister for the second time.

On a personal note: I have been a Likud supporter for many years seeing them as the strongest political party in Israel. Since the late 70's I have found myself agreeing with their economic and foreign policy views. If Netanyahu and Likud is victorious in the next elections, the world will see no more disasters like the failed 2006 Lebanese War.

Operation Gratitude

Thank you is two little words that mean a lot. Is it too much to say to those men and women who are serving our nation? No. Operation Gratitude is just that. A way for us to just say Thank You to these men and women.

It is so easy to do. The next time you see a member of our armed forces, say Thank You. You'll be glad you did.

Mulligan Stew

America has been called the Great Melting Pot for generations. But that analogy is wrong. We are not a melting pot, but a Mulligan Stew. Mulligan stew is a kind of dish said to have been prepared by hobos in camps in the early 1900s. Usually, it includes meat, potatoes, vegetables, and whatever else can be found. The hobo who put it together was known as the "mulligan mixer".

This is a very good analogy of the culture of the United States. We tend to want all people to conform to a set ideal of what an American should be and eat, but instead we find that each group takes the best from what America gives and returns the favor with their best.

As each immigrant group as entered the nation, the nation grew and expanded. Each group added another flavor to the stew.

The base of the American Mulligan Stew is simple:

1 large dash of liberty.
1 heaping handful of freedom.
1 Constitution.

Each immigrant group then added to these ingredients. They brought their faiths, their drive for a better life, their cultures and foods. Thus the Stew was formed and set to simmering.

There were times when the stew seemed to dissolve. When a group's flavor was not admitted to the pot. Those were lean times for the stew, its flavor was flat and unappetizing. When the nation corrected the mistake, the flavor became alive.

This stew isn't assimilation, but recognition. It is allowing each group their distinctive flavor while the rest of us join in the feast. That is why Pizza, Tacos and Bagels are as American as Apple Pie.

American culture has benefited from legal immigration with a society based on the fundamentals of freedom. It is our Freedoms that set our stew apart from other nations' stews. It is why immigrants from each nation of the world come to America to join in the feast.

But we cannot allow rampant immigration either. We do not have the resources for the whole world to live here. We cannot allow people to flaunt the law in our faces and demand a place at the table when they haven't followed the laws in the first place. We cannot allow unrestricted immigration into our nation. We have to set limits.

Immigrants coming into this nation must conform to the basic recipe of the nation's stew. They must want to obey our laws, live in harmony with others and rejoice in our freedoms. They cannot say they want a bigger share of the stew pot, a special consideration for their culture, their flavor.

Legal immigration is the foundation of the flavors of our national stew. It is the spice of the nation's soul. To encourage illegal immigration of any group would be to upset the spice of the basic recipe. Illegal immigration upsets the balance of the nation. It gives one group of immigrants more rights then other groups and changes the flavor of our society. It goes against the basic fundamentals of the nation in obeying the laws of the land. And it encourages more people to flaunt the law and cross over the borders.

Amnesty for illegal immigrants is a bad idea. It will not raise the wages of workers, it will not raise the standards of education, it will not add to the American Mulligan Stew. It will encourage more and more people to just come to the US with the hope and knowledge that they too will eventually be given amnesty.

The time has come to say to the world that we will not allow an tidal wave of people to enter the US and flaunt our laws and culture. We have set limits, and those limits on immigration must be adhered to. American culture would be poorer if it wasn't for immigrants and their cultures. And our Mulligan Stew would be bland and flavorless without the input from other cultures.

Public Financing or Lobbyist's Money

Sen. Barack Hussein Obama declared June 19 that he would not accept public funds for his general election campaign and would instead finance it entirely with private donations. This hasn't been done since the 1972 Nixon/McGovern election.

If you remember that election. You will also remember Watergate, the Plumbers, the Slush Funds, and the fact that in 1974
Congress passed amendments to the Act establishing a comprehensive system of regulation and enforcement, including public financing of presidential campaigns and creation of a central enforcement agency, the Federal Election Commission. A group that Sen. Obama now calls corrupt even though he didn't in the past.

With Obama's decision to forgo Federal money, he now can raise as much money as he wants from whomever he wants. A flip-flop from his earlier view that he would accept no money from lobbyists.

Hi, this is Barack Obama. I have an important announcement and I wanted all of you – the people who built this movement from the bottom-up – to hear it first. We’ve made the decision not to participate in the public-financing system for the general election. This means we’ll be forgoing more than $80 million in public funds during the final months of this election. It’s not an easy decision, and especially because I support a robust system of public financing of elections. But the public financing of presidential elections as it exists today is broken, and we face opponents who’ve become masters at gaming this broken system. John McCain’s campaign and the Republican National Committee are fueled by contributions from Washington lobbyists and special interest PACs. And we’ve already seen that he’s not going to stop the smears and attacks from his allies running so-called 527 groups, who will spend millions and millions of dollars in unlimited donations.

Actually John McCain is not accepting any funds from lobbyists and PACs. But Obama is. FactCheck.org put this out:

The Obama campaign already has raised $265 million through the end of April, more than two-and-a-half times as much as McCain has taken in. Figures for May are due out soon. The Obama campaign said on May 6 that it had surpassed 1.5 million individual donors, and it probably has many more than that by now. All of those primary donors are legally free to make new contributions to finance Obama's general election campaign, which officially commences after he becomes certified as the Democratic party's nominee at the convention at the end of August.
Yet the lies become more obvious when Obama said:
From the very beginning of this campaign, I have asked my supporters to avoid that kind of unregulated activity and join us in building a new kind of politics – and you have. Instead of forcing us to rely on millions from Washington lobbyists and special interest PACs, you’ve fueled this campaign with donations of $5, $10, $20, whatever you can afford. And because you did, we’ve built a grassroots movement of over 1.5 million Americans. We’ve won the Democratic nomination by relying on ordinary people coming together to achieve extraordinary things.
Come off of it Senator. I know a line of bull when I see it. There is no way you could raise a quarter of a billion, yes billion dollars on donations of $5, $10, or $20 a person. There aren't that many people in the US to do it. Do you really think that Americans are that stupid? Do the math. If 1.5 million Americans would have to each donate more than $20 per person for that number to be reached.

The real reason that Senator Obama wants to do away with Federal money is that he is scared that if he did raise money from big donors he would not be able to lie his way into the White House. He is afraid that the 527's that support John McCain's bid will reveal his true message to the American people and he won't be able to fake a response.

Obama is afraid that the American people are going to wake up and see him for what he is. A scheming, slimeball that is lying and cheating his way into the Presidency.
