I thought the Iranians were stupid when they caught and executed 14 squirrels for spying.  Then the Egyptians declared that the Mossad trained a shark to kill tourists off of the Sinai.  Poor Sammy, he gets bad publicity for that one.

Then there was Moshe the Monkey who disrupted the services at a mosque in Yemen.  It is rumored that agents George the Giraffe and the boss Hymie the Hippo heads Mossad HQ at the Cairo Zoo.   And Vinnie the Vulture was killed in the line of duty over Saudi Arabia.  Vinnie was not alone.  He had a family and today a member of that family was caught in the Sudan.

Three Days of the Condor, Sudan style: Sudanese media was a buzz Thursday, with news saying that Darfur authorities had captured a vulture carrying Israeli spy gear.

The suspect bird was found to be tagged with an Israeli GPS chip and a leg band labeled "Israel Nature Service" and "Hebrew University, Jerusalem."

Khartoum's media claimed that the device was capable of taking photos and sending them back to Israel; but Israel's National Parks Service dismissed the allegation, saying that both the band and the GPS chip were nothing more than standard migration trackers.

Tensions between Israel and Sudan have been high since a mysterious airstrike leveled a major weapons manufacturing compound in Khartoum in October. Sudan blamed Israel for the raid. Jerusalem has remained mum on the subject.

The Opposition in Sudan was quick to mock the "spy bird" find: The country's Justice and Equality Movement featured the news on its website, asking: "How is it possible that the regime was able to detect one vulture, but was unable to detect the jets that bombed the arms facility?"

The website further ridiculed the authorities' report of the case, which lauded it as an "unprecedented achievement," saying that all state reports about the bird's seizure failed to mention whether the vulture was captured because the military's radar picked up on its GPS signal, or whether the bird just happened to be flying by.

Ohad Hazofe, an ecologist with the Israel Nature and Parks Authority, confirmed that the bird was carrying Israeli tags, but said the vulture came to Israel from the Balkans, from which it migrates every year.

Wild birds that visit Israel as part of their migration paths are often tagged with various bands and sometimes GPS chips, to assist ornithologists in their studies.The bird in question can fly a distance of 600km a day, Hazofe explained. "This is a young vulture that was tagged, along with 100 others, in October. He has two wing bands and a German-made GPS chip."

New Membership on the UN Human Rights Council will be given to Sudan.  Sudan that is governed by Shar'ia Law.  Sudan that women and non-Muslims are forbidden all Human rights.  Sudan that has killed over 400,000 of their own people and displaced over 2.5 million more.  That Sudan.  Their ruler Omar Al-Bashir (Wanted by the International Court for Crimes against Humanity) has fulfilled all the requirements necessary (For non-European nations.) by the UN for membership on the Human Rights Council.

The election of a Sudanese warlord accused of genocide to the United Nations Human Rights Council is now virtually guaranteed, since he has the full backing of the world body's African delegation.

The International Criminal Court has issued a warrant for Omar Al-Bashir -- its first ever for a sitting head of state -- for crimes against humanity he allegedly committed in Darfur. Yet, his regime is set to take its place on the panel, in the latest bizarre appointment to make a mockery of the UN's human rights credibility, according to critics.

It's like putting “Jack the Ripper in charge of a women’s shelter,” said Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch.

Neuer's Geneva-based group is calling on UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay to denounce election of the war-torn North African nation to the 47-member body. Sudan is not technically on the panel, but its election is a certainty because only five African nations are vying for the continent's five seats.

Membership to the Council is open to all member states and secret-ballot elections are held every year, according to a UN website. Upon election, states serve three-year terms and are not eligible for immediate re-election after serving two consecutive terms.

Candidates within the UN’s African Group, which has five vacant seats, include Ethiopia, Gabon, Ivory Coast, Sierra Leone and Sudan. The candidacies of Venezuela and Pakistan are also being protested by UN Watch and other human rights groups.

U.S. officials also blasted the development.

"Sudan, a consistent human rights violator, does not meet the Council’s own standards for membership," said Kurtis Cooper, deputy spokesman for the United States Mission to the United Nations. "It would be inappropriate for Sudan to have a seat on the Council while the Sudanese head of State is under International Criminal Court indictment for war crimes in Darfur and the government of Sudan continues to use violence to inflame tensions along its border with South Sudan."

Mark Lagon, a visiting professor at Georgetown University and a former U.S. State Department official, said Al-Bashir’s regime fomented genocide in Darfur and has since returned to terrorizing innocent people in South Sudan.

“It lacks credibility to judge others, and the Council lacks it too with it as a Member,” Lagon told Fox News.com in an email.

Neuer said Pillay, a South African, should be a “moral voice” and urge other African nations to call for “unequivocal opposition to Sudan’s scandalous” bid for the election that will add 18 member nations in all.

“Just a year after the human rights council sought to exorcise the ghosts of its past by suspending Col. Muammar Qaddafi’s Libya — which infamously chaired the body in 2003, and was reelected a member in 2010 — it is now set to replace him with a tyrant wanted for genocide by the International Criminal Court. For how long must we have the inmates running the asylum?”

Neuer said the reputation of the former human rights commission “never recovered” from making Libya its chair in 2003.

“The UN and the cause of human rights will be severely damaged if and when Al-Bashir’s Sudanese regime wins a seat,” he said.

In its first-ever arrest warrant issued for a sitting head of state by the UN International Crimes Court (ICC) in 2009, al-Bashir was accused of intentionally directing attacks in western Sudan’s Darfur region by “murdering, exterminating, raping, torturing and forcibly transferring” large numbers of civilians.

The “unlawful” campaign allegedly started soon after the April 2003 attack on El Fasher airport — as a result of agreements between Al-Bashir and other high-ranking Sudanese leaders — and lasted until at least July 2008. The warrant of arrests lists seven counts, including five counts of crimes against humanity and two counts of war crimes.

The recent UN process seemingly favors rogue states, including Iran, Zimbabwe and Syria:

—Just last month, Iran was elected to the deputy president role of a 15-member board aiming to thrash out a UN arms trade treaty, despite multiple UN sanctions against the Islamic republic regarding its nuclear defiance and human rights abuses.

—In May, Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe was appointed as a UN tourism envoy for a major UN conference despite allegations of ethnic cleansing and rigged elections by the 88-year-old who has led the southern African nation for more than three decades.

—Syria was elected to a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) human rights committee last fall, despite the ongoing crackdown on opposition protests by Bashar al-Assad’s regime that has reportedly claimed more than 21,000 lives in just 17 months.

When electing states to the council, members are asked to consider the “contribution of candidates to the promotion and protection of human rights” and voluntary pledges in that regard, according to a UN website.

“Upon election, new members commit themselves to cooperating with the Council and to upholding the highest standards in the promotion and protection of human rights,” the website reads. “Members of the Council are reviewed under the Universal Periodic Review mechanism during their term of membership.”

Any member that commits “gross and systematic violations” of human rights can be suspended by a two-thirds majority vote by the General Assembly.

MEMRI: Obama is Worse than Bush

The International Criminal Court (ICC) is about to release its decision regarding Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo's request to issue an international arrest warrant for Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir. The Sudanese president has been charged with responsibility for genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity perpetrated during the conflict in Darfur. According to U.N. sources, the ICC is expected to approve Ocampo's request, and this has increased the tension among the Sudanese leadership.

Kamal Hussein Bakhit, editor of the pro-government Sudanese daily Al-Rai Al-'Am, wrote an editorial harshly denouncing the U.S., France, and Britain (the permanent members of the Security Council), which the Sudanese regime holds responsible for Bashir's prosecution. Bakhit characterized the trial as a violation of Sudan's sovereignty, and said that if the arrest warrant is issued, it would prove that U.S. President Barack Obama was "much worse that Bush."

They forgot, [however,] that U.S. foreign policy is not dictated by the president, but by ground rules laid down by the institutions that nominate the [American] presidents. After all, the lobbies that brought Bush to power in the U.S. are the same ones that brought Obama to power.

"If [Obama] tries to change American policy, he will be one [heartbeat] away from being shot by a sniper who will be positioned on the roof of a house beside his motorcade's route. That is why [we] say that Obama is much worse than his brother, Bush, and the next few days will reveal the truth of our position..."

"I do not know what will be the position of the Western ambassadors [in Sudan] on the [ICC's] decision. Will they all adopt a stance similar to that of their governments, which support the ICC? Will they refrain from working with [Bashir], from submitting their letters of credence to him and from meeting with him because of his 'wanted' [status]? Or will they carry on as usual, without [letting] the ICC arrest warrant affects their personal positions...?

"Whatever happens, the issue is complicated, [but] the government has [only] one option: Every ambassador whose country supports the decision [to issue an arrest warrant for Bashir] must voluntarily leave the country. Those whose country does not support this criminal decision will be able to carry on their work as usual."

Not exactly. If the World Court does condemn Sudan for the horror that is Darfur, then it will become the first time a Muslim nation is charged with genocide. What will Sudan do? Cry out for Jihad against the West? That is already being sounded now from most of the Muslim world.

Kofi Annan is beloved in Africa because he was one of them. One of the most corrupt Secretary-Generals of the United Nations in its short history. Instead of working on actual World Peace, all he did was line his pockets with money (mostly from the United States) and condemn Israel. Not a paragon of virtue. But Africa was never a paragon of virtue to begin with.

It seems that Obama's star is starting to set before it can truly arise. Sudan, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan, and how many more nations of the world are seeing him not as their savior, but as something worse than Bush? The gilt is going, under it is nothing but base metal.

The issue of the warrant is purely a legal matter. Every nation in the world has the right to protect its citizens and bring them justice.

"In Sudan, we have an outlaw government. Instead of protecting its citizens, it annihilates them. Therefore, the rule of law has been transferred from this failing, illegal government to the International Criminal Court."

Refugees from Darfur and Sudan are fleeing their nation and finding a haven in Israel. The Egyptian government has shown not only contempt for these people, but has systematically robbed, raped and murdered them. The Western world gives lip service to the plight of these poor, unfortunate people and does nothing to help them. It is only Israel that these men, women and children have found a refuge, a safe harbor. This is the nation that the Muslim nations of the world calls the most hateful and vile nation on the planet. Yet these same Muslim nations give no aid to these fellow Muslims.

The refugees from Darfur and Sudan, living in Israel have more than just food, shelter, and clothing. They gain freedoms that they cannot and never had in their own lands. Only recently did this happen:

Teen refugees win Tel Aviv race

Two young Eritreans who fled their country only six months ago win first and second place on national 10,000 meter road race this weekend. Now they dream of representing Israel in the Olympic Games.

It was only six months ago that John Pasahi and Taspaldat Dasta, both 17-years old, fled the bloody civil war in their homeland of Eritrea, crossed through Sudan and Egypt to Sinai, and at the end of an exhausting and dangerous journey found refuge in Israel.

"I escaped from Eritrea to Sudan because of the terrible war," recounted Pasahi, who won first place with a result of 33.47 minutes. "The journey took me several months, and after I crossed Sinai and arrived in Israel I was sent to study at the Kadoorie Youth Village in the Lower Galilee."

Dasta, who won second place in the race with a result of 35.49 minutes, also arrived at Kadoorie after enduring the long journey from Eritrea.

The principal at the youth village, Hillel Hillman said that "when they got here they told us horrific stories of parents who disappeared in the war, of hunger, plundering and a difficult, long journey through Egypt."

These aren't Jewish young men, but Muslim youths. Yet they are finding a place in the Jewish nation. And that may be the most telling of all. Israel welcoming those who will find no other place in the world from violence and death.
