The latest on the Mexican crisis, from Reuters:
EDINBURG, Mexico (Reuters) March 6, 2022 — Edinburg’s legislature voted to join Texas on Thursday and its Washington-backed
government set a referendum within 10 days on the decision in a dramatic escalation of the crisis over Tamaulipas state in Mexico.
The Edinburg region of Texas — which was ceded to Mexico in 2016 by then-President Barack Obama to satisfy domestic political pressures —
consists on the former counties of Webb, Zapata, Jim Hogg, Starr, Hidalgo, Willacy, and Cameron. The region is now part of Tamaulipas
state.
The sudden acceleration of moves to bring Edinburg, which has an Anglo majority and has effectively been seized by Texan forces, formally
under Austin’s rule came as UN leaders gathered for an emergency summit to find ways to pressure Texas to back down.
Russian President Vladimir Putin took steps to punish those involved in threatening the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Mexico,
ordering the freezing of their Russian assets and a ban on travel into Russia.
The Russian Navy announced a guided-missile destroyer, the Archangel, was heading to the Gulf of Mexico in what it said was a long-planned training exercise and not a show of force.
The Edinburger legislature voted unanimously “to enter into the Republic of Texas with the rights of a citizen of the Republic of
Texas”.
The vice-governor of Edinburg, home to Texas’ Gulf of Mexico military base in Port Isabel, said a referendum on the status would take place on March 16. He said all state property would be “nationalized”, the U.S. dollar could be adopted and Mexican troops would be treated as occupiers and be forced to surrender or leave.
The announcement, which diplomats said could not have been made without U.S. President Rand Paul’s approval, raised the stakes in the
most serious east-west confrontation since the beginning of the Great Collapse.
U.S. stocks fell and the dollar weakened further after the news. Moody’s ratings agency said the stand-off was negative for Texas’
creditworthiness.
Texas said it would make it easier to give passports to native English speakers who have lived in Texas or the United States. Paul has
cited the threat to American citizens to justify military action in the Caribbean in 2019 and now in Mexico.
Far from seeking a diplomatic way out of the crisis, Paul appears to have chosen to create facts on the ground before the East can agree on
more than token action against him.
UN leaders had been set to warn but not sanction the U.S. over its military intervention after Washington rebuffed Eastern diplomatic
efforts to persuade it to pull forces in Edinburg, with a population of about 2 million, back to their bases. It was not immediately clear what impact the Edinburger moves would have.
French President Dominique Strauss-Kahn told reporters on arrival at the summit: “There will be the strongest possible pressure on Texas to begin lowering the tension and in the pressure there is, of course, eventual recourse to sanctions.”
A Edinburger legislature official said voters will be asked two questions: should Edinburg be part of the Republic of Texas, and should
Edinburg return to an earlier constitution (2017) that gave the region more autonomy?
“If there weren’t constant threats from the current illegal Mexican authorities, maybe we would have taken a different path,” deputy
legislature speaker Donald McTeague told reporters outside the legislature building in Edinburg’s main city, also named Edinburg.
“I think there was an annexation of Edinburg by Mexico, if we are going to call things by their name. Because of this mood and feeling we
took the decision to join Texas. I think we will feel much more comfortable there.”
To provide some perspective on the Ukraine crisis, the imaginary article above was created by modifying this Reuters story (which has already been altered by Reuters via several updates since I downloaded it).
The Crimea was a part of the Russian state from 1783 — when Catherine the Great wrested it from the Ottomans — until 1954, when Nikita
Khrushchev assigned it to the Ukrainian S.S.R. for internal Soviet political reasons.
Once upon a time, the Prince of Hope-N-Change stomped angrily around the White Castle. He jumped on the furniture, and kicked his golf bag so hard he snapped the shaft of his favorite putter.
Why was he so filled with rage?
Because, for the first time ever, he had been caught in his gollywhomper lies.
“Like your doctor? Keep your doctor. Period.”
“Like your health care plan? Keep your health care plan. Period.”
Being nailed as a “mis-spoken teller of incorrect truth” had caused the Prince of Hope-N-Change’s popularity and job approval ratings to plummet. Even his media lap dogs had turned against him. Instead of being cheered as the “Chosen One,” he was mocked and called “The Lying King,” and “President Pinocchio.”
All those years of campaigning for his healthcare plan, traveling hither and yon, toughing it out in five-star golf resorts, accompanied by teleprompters, valets, drama coaches, and food tasters…all that effort had been expended for nothing. His adoring public had lost that lovin’ feeling.
How did this happen? Increasing numbers of citizens learned what was in the 2,000+ pages of his healthcare law. They discovered what he had known all along. Obamacare would force millions of citizens to lose their healthcare plans and doctors and be shoved into insurance programs they couldn’t afford and didn’t want.
Obamacare had been exposed for what it was: redistribution of wealth in America, a yellow brick road leading to single-payer socialized medicine.
Medicaid for all. Quality for none.
Desperate to escape the mantle of responsibility, the Prince snuck into a basement vault to consult his most trusted oracle.
“Mirror, mirror on the wall, am I still beloved by all?”
“Poof!” The image of the magic mirror lady, Ezmerelda, floated into the mirror.
“Hello Dearie. You might want to rephrase? Begin with a question I can answer in a positive manner.”
The Prince of Hope-N-Change thought for a moment.
“Mirror, mirror, on the wall, can I still out snooker all?”
Ezmerelda nodded. “Of course you can. Simply launch a distraction or two.”
The Prince of Hope-N-Change asked, “You mean, like a war with Iran or Syria? Maybe Israel?”
“Pray tell, why would you attack your one and only ally in the Mid East?”
“I told Israel to shift their border back to where it was in 1966, but they won’t do it, and I gotta’ teach ‘um a lesson about . . .”
Ezmerelda interrupted. “Dearie, you are the least qualified person on the planet to advise or demand anything from any country. Your foreign policy track record is exactly 100 percent failure. You gave the Mid East to Russia; betrayed your Brotherhood pals in Egypt; backed out of Libya; lost Yemen to terrorist control; armed Al Qaeda in Syria, and dumped Saudi Arabia and Israel under the bus. Better you should focus on distractions at home.”
“Start by hopping back onto the women’s rights bandwagon. But, beware. The right-to-life voices are louder than ever. It’s time to rewrite your history of infanticide support when you were in the Illinois State Senate. And bury those stubborn statistics about the one million babies murdered by your beloved abortion mill, Planned Parenthood, since you came into office.”
“Then, focus on how America’s children must be our #1 priority. Assign your journalists to plant Public Service Announcements about how Obamacare not only supports vital health services for women, but also covers prenatal, pediatric, and dental care for children.”
“And then there’s immigration reform. Sign an executive order to bring millions of your illegal amigos out of the shadows. Give them healthcare, food stamps, ballots printed in Spanish, a $15 minimum wage, and a fast track to citizenship.”
“You’ll love the opposition’s predictable reaction. They’ll jump on the you-can’t-do-that bandwagon and stop beating the drum to repeal Obamacare.”
“Last, but not least, bring gun control back into the national discussion. And for heaven’s sake, DO NOT mention your Fast and Furious gun running debacle. (Pardon my French, but that was a friggin’ stupid program! What were you thinking?) Round up survivors of various mass shootings for another show ‘n tell victim parade. Serve lunch and Kool-Aid to ensure a big media turnout.”
“Republicans are so predictable. They always chase after every diversion…like ferrets pursuing bright, shiny objects.”
Ezmerelda lowered her voice. “Dearie…you need to be aware that the illogical (and juvenile) advice from Michelle and Valerie has turned Obamacare into an industrial-strength train wreck. Those apology speeches? Totally lame. Irritated everybody. If you refuse to apologize, at least ask the most trusted man in America to teach you how to look remorseful.”
The Prince of Hope-N-Change looked puzzled.
Ezmerelda explained. “Invite Tom Hanks for lunch and a coaching session.”
The Prince of Hope-N-Change asked, “What will happen if Obamacare implodes or is repealed by my own democrats?”
“No problemo. Hillarycare’s single-payer system will finish the take-over program you botched.”
The Prince of Hope-N-Change whined, “But, but, but…her plan is just like mine. It’s not fair to name it after her instead of me.”
Ezmerelda replied, “To the whinner go the spoils.”
“Oh, and one more thing, Dearie. Plan a private dinner party for your most important democrat Senators. Ply them with artery-clogging steaks, French wines, and Cuban cigars. And for dessert? Their just rewards. Promise to destroy the political future of any one of them who does not support the Obama team distraction strategies on women’s rights, amnesty, and gun control.”
The Prince of Hope-N-Change protested. “But, but…they won’t want to come for dinner, or even be seen in the same room with me. Especially the senators coming up for reelection in 2014.”
Ezmerelda gave him a squinty-eyed look. “You need to convince them to go along with what you propose.”
“How can I do that?”
“Make them an offer they can’t refuse.”
The Prince of Hope-N-Change was puzzled. “What would that be?”
Ezmerelda smiled, “Threaten to campaign for them on their home turf.”
In July 1914 the Great Powers of Europe ((Italy, France, Germany, the British Empire, the Austria-Hungarian Empire and Russia) failed to come to a diplomatic solution to the growing nationalism, the colonialism that the Great Powers forced upon the Third World, the growing call for war that was filling the continent of Europe. Then the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife Sophie by Gavrilo Princip, a Serbian national member of the Serbian nationalist organization, the Black Hand, in the city of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. This was the final straw that broke the proverbial camel's back for the Great Powers and the Guns of August fired.
Now in this last week of August we are beginning to hear the Guns of August rolling again. A different part of the World, (The Middle East not Europe.) and different players (Syria, Iran, Hezbollah, Russia, Israel, United States, Great Britain.). Diplomacy has failed, Assad of Syria will not listen to the world. And the Assad regime attacked his own civilian population with Sarin gas. But the outcome of their actions just might ignite the world into a global war.
Ahead of the US strike on Syria, the Israeli security cabinet in special session Wednesday, Aug. 28, ordered the partial mobilization of select, qualitative IDF reserve forces: Rocket, Air Force, missile interception, Home Defense command and intelligence units. Anti-missile Arrow, Patriot and Iron Dome systems were spread out more widely than ever before across the country. US and Syria wound up last military preparations for the US strike. Barring last-minute hold-ups, debkafile’s military sources report the American operation is scheduled to start Friday night, early Saturday Aug. 30-31.(Confirmed)
In the past 24 hours, the US Air Force finished a major buildup at the big US Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar. B-1B bombers and F-22 Raptor stealth fighter jets were brought over from other US Mid East air facilities on the Omani island of Masirah and Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean.
These squadrons were not assigned to the US military strike against Syria, say our military sources, but will stand ready to move in should unforeseen complications in the course of the US missile assault on Syria call for the introduction of extra assets from outside.
Israeli officials and spokesmen continued to insist Wednesday on low expectations of a Syrian counter-offensive against their country. Nevertheless, the new US air force reinforcements in Qatar will stand ready to rush to the aid of US allies - Israel, Jordan and Turkey - in the event of their coming under Syrian Scud attack.
On the opposite side, the Syrian army Tuesday started scattering personnel, weapons and air assets to safe places to reduce their exposure to damage and losses from US assaults.
Our military sources report that personnel, tanks and artillery of the Syrian Army’s 4th and Republican Guard Divisions, which are held responsible for the Aug. 21 chemical attack on civilians, were being moved into fortified shelters built last year against potential foreign military intervention.(Confirmed)
Syrian army command centers in Homs, Hama, Latakia and the Aleppo region were also being split up and dispersed, after a tip-off to Syrian and Russian intelligence that they would be targeted by the US strike.
Syria has also transferred its Air Force fighter planes, bombers and attack helicopters to fortified shelters which are armored against missile and air attack.
In Israel, the IDF Wednesday installed two Iron Dome missile interceptors in the northern “Valleys” region and Safed in addition to Haifa. Another Iron Dome battery was posted in the heavily populated central district. Arrow, Patriot anti-missile missiles, as well as Iron Domes, have been deployed more widely across Israel than ever before. debkafile’s military sources report that Israel’s Arrow and Patriot interceptors are linked to the US missile shield with which their operation is synchronized.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Tuesday that Israel was ready for any scenario. Although it takes no part in the Syrian civil war crisis, Israel would not hesitate to fight back for any attempted attacks – and would do so forcefully.
Wednesday morning, the machinery for distributing gas masks to the population broke down under the pressure of demands to distribution centers across the country. The Homeland Ministry’s website crashed. Former Interior Minister Ellie Yishay complained of a shortage of protective masks due to budget cuts. He said there are only enough to supply 40 percent of the population.
Will someone please tell me why are we getting involved in a civil war? Have we not learned from past experience (Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan) that we cannot defeat a military using conventional military tactics and Obama's idea of rules of engagement. Rules written to give the enemy every advantage.
All I can see if we attack Syria is that we support al-Queda and enter into a war we cannot extract ourselves from for years. A war that will cost the US thousands of lives and billions of dollars.
You know that things are heating up in Syria when longtime ally of Bashar al-Assad's Syria is pulling their troops out of Syria. Add to that Israel going on high alert, President Obama and his Security Council is not concerned, and one can expect the area to blow up soon.
Shortly after the DEBKA aired a special video on the Syrian war’s widening circle, Moscow announced Wednesday June 26, that the evacuation which had begun Friday of all military and diplomatic personnel from Syria was now complete, including the Russian naval base at Tartus.
“Russia decided to withdraw its personnel because of the risks from the conflict in Syria, as well as the fear of an incident involving the Russian military that could have larger consequences,” said a defense ministry official in Moscow. He stressed that a 16-ship naval task force in the eastern Mediterranean remains on post and arms shipments, including anti-air weapons, would continue to the Syrian government in keeping with former contracts.
In another sign of an impending escalation in Syria, the Israeli Golan brigade staged Wednesday an unannounced war maneuver on the Golan, attended by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and top army chiefs. In London, Prime Minister David Cameron called the government’s National Security Council into session in Downing Street on Syria. Opposition leader Ed Milliband was invited to attend the meeting, a custom observed only when issues of the highest security importance are discussed.

The sullen confrontation between Presidents Vladimir Putin and Barack Obama at the G8 Summit in Northern Ireland last week condemned Syria to five months of escalating, unresolved vicious warfare – that is until the two leaders meet again in September.
For now, tempers are heating up between Washington and Moscow on Syria and other things too, notably the elusive American fugitive Edward Snowden.
US and Israeli intelligence watchers see the Syrian crisis entering seven ominous phases:
1. The Syrian army plus allies and the fully-mobilized opposition will hurl all their manpower and weapons into winning the city.
Military experts don’t expect the rebels to hold out against Assad’s forces beyond late August.
2. Neither side has enough manpower or game-changing weaponry for winning the war outright.
That is, unless Presidents Obama or Putin steps in to retilt the balance.
3. The US and Russia are poised for more military intervention in the conflict up until a point just short of a military clash on Syrian soil – or elsewhere in the Middle East. US intelligence analysts have judged Putin ready to go all the way on Syria against the US - no holds barred.
The Russian president is meanwhile deliberately goading Washington and raising temperatures by playing hide-and-seek over the former NSA contractor Edward Snowden, charged with espionage for stealing and leaking classified intelligence. At home, he is considered variously as a traitor and a brave whistleblower.
For several hours Snowden vanished between Hong Kong and Moscow – until the Russian president admitted he was holed up in the transit area of Moscow airport and would not be extradited by Russia to the United States.
4. Iran, Hizballah and Iraq will likewise ratchet up their battlefield presence.
5. A violent encounter is building up between Middle East Shiites flocking to Syria to save the Assad regime alongside Russia, and the US-backed Sunni-dominated rebel forces.
It could scuttle the secret US-Iranian negotiating track on its nuclear program, which was buoyed up by the election of the pragmatic Hassan Rouhani as President of Iran.
6. The Geneva-2 Conference for a political solution for the Syrian crisis is dead in the water. Moscow and the US are divided by unbridgeable issues of principle, such whether Bashar Assad should stay or go and Iranian representation.
7. So long as the diplomatic remains stuck in the mud, the prospects of a regional war spreading out of the Syrian conflict are rising. Iran, Israel, Jordan and Lebanon may be dragged in at any moment – if they have not already, like Lebanon.
A small mistake by one of the Syrian warring parties in Syria could, for example, touch off Israeli retaliation and a wholesale spillover of violence.

Today an US drone was shot at in International Air Space by Iranian Forces. It was repelled by US fighter Jets which are now flying escort for US drones.
The Syrian High Command issued an ultimatum to the Lebanese government to stop supporting the rebels or they will send their Air Force to strike the convoys and bases.
The Russian Navy decided not to have 3 warships dock at Tartus but diverted them to Beirut.
Middle East tensions are spiraling sharply six days before US President Barack Obama lands in the Middle East. Thursday night, March 14, an Iranian fighter jet tried to bring down a US Predator drone flying over Oman, i.e. the Straits of Hormuz - only to be warned off by flares from its US fighter escort.
This was not the first time a US drone was threatened by Iranian aircraft over the Persian Gulf, but in reporting the incident, the Pentagon revealed that the drones flying in the neighborhood of Iranian shores are now escorted by US jet fighters.
A couple of hours earlier that evening, debkafile received an exclusive report from its military sources that the Syrian high command had just issued an ultimatum, on the orders of Bashar Assad, demanding that the Lebanese government put an immediate stop to the passage of armed Sunni fighters from Lebanon into Syria, else the Syrian Air Force would strike the Lebanese intruders’ convoys and also their home bases. Damascus claimed they were coming to fight the government alongside the al Qaeda-linked Jabrat al-Nusra.
Their incursion threatened to engender a major spillover of the Syrian conflict into Lebanon.
The danger of hostilities inching close to the Syrian port of Tartus, where Moscow maintains a naval base, decided the Russian Navy to instruct three warships carrying 700 marines to Tartus to change course and put in at Beirut instead.
The Iranians are openly supporting and fighting for Assad. Al Qaeda is striving to take the Golan Heights, itching for a fight with Israel. The Russians don't know which way to turn. Support Assad or flee from the violence. The UN peacekeepers on the Syrian-Israeli border have fled to Israel. A patrol was kidnapped by al Qaeda.
All this on the eve of President Barack Hussein Obama's visit to the region. A good example of his foreign policy in action.
Last seem over the skies of Israel. Hundreds of phone calls to Police Hotlines reporting the UFO, no planes were scramble, Iron Dome and other anti-missile defenses did not fire, and no sirens were sounded. What could it be?

The glowing light reported in Israel's skies around 8:45 pm Thursday apparently resulted from of a failed intercontinental ballistic missile test by the Russian military, according to estimates.
Hundreds of Israelis nationwide flooded police hotlines Thursday evening with reports of an unidentified flying object in the nation's skies.

Later Thursday, Russian news agency Novosti quoted the Defense Ministry in Moscow, which confirmed that a missile was test-fired from the Astrakhan region in central Russia. The trail of light seen in Israel was also reported in Armenia, Turkey, Cyprus, Lebanon, Jordan and other countries in the region.
According to a statement issued by Russia's Defense Ministry, crews belonging to the army's strategic missile division successfully test-fired a ballistic missile at 9:39 pm, Moscow time. A video shot in the area the missile was fired from showed parts of the missile falling. However, the clip was removed a few minutes after being posted.

Israeli Astronomical Association Chairman Dr. Yigal Pat-El said that it is quite possible that the unidentified flying object reported by residents nationwide was a ballistic missile test.
"It most likely spun out of control and its remnants and the fuel was what people saw. It reached a height of 200-300 kilometers and that's why it was seen from so many locations," he told Ynet.
"We saw a large trail of light traveling from a distant spot in the sky," Dorit from northern Israel reported earlier. "We could not see the source of the light. The trail was massive. It was an unusual sight. Moments later we saw swirling movement where the light was coming from."
Concerned citizens in Armenia and Lebanon also called their local police stations after seeing the unusual glowing light. One Lebanese citizen reported seeing the light in the sky and in response an American web-surfer said it might be a military test. The Lebanese woman laughingly responded with: "A military test? Here?"
Notably, similar reports were received in Norway in 2009, following a failed Russian missile test. At the time, residents offered various explanations, ranging from a meteor to a UFO.
This missile was seen not only in Russia, but Turkey, Armenia and Lebanon. And the Lebanese are very lucky that the Israelis didn't believe that this was a actual attack. What a shame. It would have been nice to discover that this was Hassan Nasrallah finally emerging from his bunker after hiding there for the last 6 years.
It appears Congress had nothing to do with this 7-island giveaway with tens of thousands of square miles of oil-rich seabeds. The Department of the Interior says these islands are a source of BILLIONS of barrels of oil. Our president and the State Department can just give away American sovereign land – Alaskan land. Part of Obama’s apparent war against U.S. energy independence includes a foreign-aid program that directly threatens my state’s sovereign territory. Obama’s State Department is giving away seven strategic, resource-laden Alaskan islands to the Russians. Yes, to the Putin regime in the Kremlin.
The seven endangered islands in the Arctic Ocean and Bering Sea include one the size of Rhode Island and Delaware combined. The Russians are also to get the tens of thousands of square miles of oil-rich seabeds surrounding the islands. The Department of Interior estimates billions of barrels of oil are at stake.
The State Department has undertaken the giveaway in the guise of a maritime boundary agreement between Alaska and Siberia. Astoundingly, our federal government itself drew the line to put these seven Alaskan islands on the Russian side. But as an executive agreement, it could be reversed with the stroke of a pen by President Obama or Secretary Clinton.
The agreement was negotiated in total secrecy. The state of Alaska was not allowed to participate in the negotiations, nor was the public given any opportunity for comment. This is despite the fact the Alaska Legislature has passed resolutions of opposition – but the State Department doesn’t seem to care.
The imperiled Arctic Ocean islands include Wrangell, Bennett, Jeannette and Henrietta. Wrangell became American in 1881 with the landing of the U.S. Revenue Marine ship Thomas Corwin. The landing party included the famed naturalist John Muir. It is 3,000 square miles in size.
Northwest of Wrangell are the DeLong Islands, named for George Washington DeLong, the captain of USS Jeannette. Also in 1881, he discovered and claimed these three islands for the United States. He named them for the voyage co-sponsor, New York City newspaper publisher James Gordon Bennett. The ship’s crew received a hero’s welcome back in Washington, and Congress awarded them gold medals.
In the Bering Sea at the far west end of the Aleutian chain are Copper Island, Sea Lion Rock and Sea Otter Rock. They were ceded to the U.S. in Seward’s 1867 treaty with Russia.
The State Department’s maritime agreement is a loser – it gives us nothing in return for giving up Alaska’s sovereign territory and invaluable resources. We won the Cold War and should start acting like it.

First his overture towards Iran is met with preconditions that really cannot be met by us (but Obama being the appeaser he is will do it), and now he is trying to push another SALT II type treaty on the US with the Russians.
The Obama administration, reversing the Bush administration's limited interest in nuclear disarmament, is gearing up for early negotiations with Russia on a new treaty that would sharply reduce stockpiles of nuclear warheads.
Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has notified Congress and her staff that she intends to get started quickly on talks with the Russians, who have voiced interest in recent weeks in settling on a new treaty calling for cutbacks in arsenals on both sides.
The 1991 Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty expires at the end of the year. It limited the United States and Russia to 6,000 nuclear warheads each. The American stockpile is believed to be about 2,300 warheads, and the Russians' even lower.
Clinton's spokesman, Robert Wood, said the new administration was serious about negotiating reductions in nuclear weapons. A replacement treaty for START "will be put on a fast track," Wood said.
President Barack Obama said during the campaign that he would seek verifiable reductions in all U.S. and Russian nuclear weapons. Clinton told Congress last month that deep reductions were the goal.
Clinton has told her staff she intends to get started quickly on talks with the Russians, said an administration official who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak about the subject.
Daryl Kimball, executive director of the private Arms Control Association, said "it appears that reductions down to 1,000 warheads are possible." That would be a cut of more than 50 percent on the U.S. side.
In 2002, President George W. Bush and Russian leader Vladimir Putin agreed on a treaty that sets as a target 1,700 to 2,000 deployed strategic warheads by 2012.
We are being led by a man who's goal in life is to destroy the entire US nuclear arsenal, thus leaving us defenseless. Carter tried to do this and the Congress at the time told him no by not ratifying the treaty. This time there are very few in Congress who see that trying to limit other nations and yourself will not work. It didn't work in the past and will not work now, no matter what Obama thinks or says.

Pity I was away last week. I must have missed the march through London against the Russian invasion of Georgia. What a magnificent sight it must have been - half a million protesters standing firm against tyranny and supporting freedom and democracy.
I'd have loved to have heard Red Ken denouncing the bloodthirsty gangster regime in Moscow, George Galloway comparing Vladimir Putin to Hitler and Tony Benn declaring it was all about oil.

For many years the world held their collective breath hoping and praying that the leaders of the United States and Soviet Union wouldn't go over the precipice and plunge the world into World War 3. Although they came close to the edge on many occasions, they never tried to jump into that void.
Now Vladimir Putin is testing the resolve of the Free World again. Testing to see how far to the edge of that old precipice he can bring us. Testing our resolve. But he too will not go over the edge and into the void. He fears what that would bring.

Russia have now replied to this deal between America and Poland by stating that Poland is now 100% in the firing line for Nuclear attack, and that it would be attacked as a first priority if there was a war with America.

In my opinion this deal with Poland and the war between Russia and Georgia at the Ossetia cross roads is just the aligning of the pawns ready for the real pivotal battle of today's global conflict which is Iran v Israel.

Iran have recently tested missiles capable of reaching into Europe, Israel have conducted training runs for the inevitable attack on Iran's Nuclear programme, Russia have supplied Iran with its latest weaponry with which to defend itself from an Israeli attack, and America have stated that all options are on the table in defending Israel's Sovereignty.
This is the most serious and pivotal geo-political, and military cross roads of our era, it is something that our world and its future cannot escape from, and with every action there is a reaction, so once the spark happens our world will ignite. At the moment it is like the groundwork for the fire is just being put in place getting ready for the spark to ignite it.

Georgia is supported by America and is on Russia's border, with the oil pipeline that runs to the West running through Ossetia, so the stakes have been raised on both sides now with Russia moving in to take over control of the region, so maybe this means that the Iran conflict is just around the corner and these smaller contentions are just the precursor to that conflict, with the smaller pieces of the game being moved and positioned ready for the days that lay ahead.
Putin is playing a very dangerous game. He stands at the precipice of ruin for his nation and the world. This latest round of attacks upon Georgia, compounded with his threats to Poland and the Czech Republic can only mean that he is trying to rebuild the old Soviet Empire. Putin must be made to understand in no uncertain terms that to attack Poland or the Czech Republic is an attack on each and every NATO nation. That was and is the strategy that formed NATO in the first place. Will he finally go over the edge of disaster and attack? I pray that he will remember some of the lessons of the Cold War and MAD.
As for Iran. The leadership there is bent on a course that will lead to the utter ruin of that once proud nation. For when the leaders of a nation are religious fanatics, no amount of mutual destruction will stop them if they believe that they will usher in a new world based on their religious beliefs. So what can the Free World do?
We can prepare ourselves for the inevitable. On the course we are heading now, Iran will achieve its goal of nuclear weapons. And they will use them first on Israel, then on the US and the Western democracies. That is a fact. Israel will attempt (and hopefully succeed) to take out this threat. But if Israel fails in doing that, we must remind Iran that any attack on Israel, the US, or the Western Democracies will result in their utter destruction and annihilation as a nation. They must be made aware that although they can use one or two nuclear weapons against the West, the US has an arsenal of thousands of these weapons. All it takes is a push of a button and hundreds of warheads on missiles that will hit their targets. It won't stop them, but in the eyes of this nation it will be seen as a warning to them.
Now why would the United States choose Georgia, a free and democratic nation over Russia, a nation ruled by a former KGB agent who thinks he's a Czar?
Russia pressed the United States on Wednesday to choose between "a real partnership" with Moscow or an "illusory" relationship with U.S. ally Georgia.
Washington said it's sticking with Georgia.
"As to choosing, the United States has made very clear that it is standing by the democratically elected government of Georgia," Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Wednesday.
She spelled out the Bush administration's stance after Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called Georgia's government "a special project for the United States."
"And we are aware that the U.S. is uptight about this project," Lavrov said in remarks broadcast on Russian television. "But a choice will have to be made someday between considerations of prestige related to an illusory project and a real partnership in matters which indeed require collective efforts."
Rice, amid reports that Russian troops remained on the move Wednesday, pushed Russia to abide by a cease-fire signed Tuesday by the Russian and Georgian presidents.
Finally some backbone from Condi Rice. It only took a weekend and a half a dozen phone calls to get her to stand up to the bully Russia.
Rice said Moscow already faced "quite significant" diplomatic consequences over its conflict with Georgia before Tuesday's cease-fire agreement.
Any violations of the cease-fire would call into question Russia's "suitability" as an international partner, Rice told reporters before leaving on a diplomatic trip to Europe.
Bush administration officials told CNN the United States and its European allies were considering kicking Russia out of the G-8, the group of the world's largest industrial economies, and other international organizations as punishment for its actions in Georgia.
Rice discounted concerns that Moscow would no longer assist Washington on thorny diplomatic issues such as efforts to halt nuclear programs in Iran and North Korea, saying it had its own interests at stake.
"Let's be very clear whose interests are being served by the partnership that Russia and the United States have engaged in on Iran or North Korea," she said. "Again, it's not a favor to the United States."
Georgia has been a close U.S. ally, contributing troops to the war in Iraq and seeking to join NATO with Washington's support. In a CNN interview Wednesday, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili criticized the United States for not doing more to help his nation.
"America is losing the whole region, and this is the region of eastern and central Europe," said Saakashvili, who called for the United States and European powers to send peacekeepers to the region. "This is much bigger than any other place where there is American influence, and this is the most natural allies of America."
I wonder what the late President Ronald Reagan would have done in this situation. He probably would have taken the military to DEFCOM 2, then told the Russians that he would go to DEFCOM 1 if they didn't back down. Raising and lowering the DEFCOM was one way the US got the attention of the Soviets back during the Cold War. And no matter what Putin thinks, Russia isn't the Soviet Union and he isn't the President of a superpower any more. Russia is a second rate nation with nuclear weapons. That is all. And he better start thinking in those lines.
When you think of Georgia most American think of that lovely Southern State. But Europeans and Asians think of that lovely nation that was a former Soviet State. A nation that has been continuously inhabited since the Stone Age, Georgia has been known to Europe for millennium. The city of Colchis was the site of the Golden Fleece in which Jason sought. Christianity was declared the state religion as early as AD 337 proving a great stimulus to literature, arts and the unification of the country. As a crossroad between Christian and Islamic traditions, Georgia experienced the dynamic exchange between these two worlds which culminated in a true renaissance around 12-13th centuries AD. Georgia was annexed into the Soviet Union in 1924 after a brutal revolt against them. On April 9, 1991, shortly before the collapse of the USSR, Georgia declared independence. It was a long struggle for them that year, but in the end they achieved their independence from Russia. For in the years since, Russia has been trying to gain control of Georgia first with the Rose Revolution of 2000, and now with the South Ossetian War. But why?
OIL
Although Georgia does have oil and natural gas which accounts for 10% of their exports and 18% of GDP, it will be sharing a part of the new Azeri oil pipeline. A pipeline that will not be going through Russia or Iran.
Analysis of the war in Georgia points to a fight over a major oil route as the main reason for hostilities, but also to an Israeli connection.
Channel 2's expert on the Muslim world, Ehud Ya'ari, told viewers of the central evening newscast that Russia and neighboring countries were vying for control of a strategic oil pipeline from the Caspian Sea to the Mediterranean. This relatively new pipeline passes through Azerbaijan and Georgia to Turkey and is the only pipeline between Asia and Europe that does not pass through Russia or Iran. Israel is expecting to receive oil and gas through the pipeline.
By using the ethnic Russian population in South Ossetia to destabilize Georgia, Russia was making a play for the pipeline, he said.
Any wonder why Russia would do this? Russia is furious that the Azeri pipeline was routed through Georgia and not Russia. So Russia has to find a way to control it. Thus the attacks on Georgia.
The Georgian move against South Ossetia was motivated by political considerations having to do with Israel and Iran, according to Nfc. Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili decided to assert control over the breakaway region in order to force Israel to reconsider its decision to cut back its support for Georgia's military.
Russian and Georgian media reported several days ago that Israel decided to stop its support of Georgia after Moscow made it clear to Jerusalem and Washington that Russia would respond to continued aid for Georgia by selling advanced anti-aircraft systems to Syria and Iran.
Hundreds of Israeli defense experts are reportedly in Georgia and Israel's military industries have been upgrading Georgia's air force, training its infantry and selling the country unmanned aerial vehicles and advanced artillery systems.
Former minister Ronny Milo was reportedly among the leading Israeli middlemen in the arms deals with Georgia and Brig.-Gen. Gal Hirsch has been training army units through a company he owns.
Russia bombed a Georgian military plant in which Israeli experts are upgrading jet fighters for the Georgian military. According to Nfc, the bombing was a "sharp message" to Israel.
A Russian fighter jet bombed runways inside the plant, located near Tbilisi, where Israeli security firm Elbit is in charge of upgrading Georgian SU-25 jets.
I knew that somehow the Russians would blame Israel for this mess that they started. According to the United Nations, Israel is the blame for all the ills in the world. So it is natural that Russia would blame Israel for this aggression on their part.
Georgia has ordered its forces to cease fire, and offered to start talks with Russia over an end to hostilities in South Ossetia, Georgian officials said Sunday. However, Russia has reportedly rejected the offer. Earlier in the day, Georgia said its troops had pulled out of the breakaway region and that Russian forces were in control of its capital, Tskhinvali. Georgian President Saakashvili said Sunday that his country's sovereignty is in danger.
After conducting consultations regarding events in Georgia, Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said Sunday that Israel "recognizes Georgia's territorial integrity." Israel also called for a peaceful resolution of the conflict between Russia and Georgia.
I doubt that Russia will sit down to any table with Georgia until Russia controls most of the territory that it wants.
Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gregory Karasin said Sunday that international and western press coverage of events in Georgia were biased in favor of the Georgians.
"The West behaved strangely in the first hours of the attack on South Ossetia," Karasin said, and added that "the U.S.A.'s negative attitude" would be "taken into consideration in the future in contacts about other global questions." The US says it will ask the United Nations to condemn Russia's actions in Georgia.
Russia has a long history of aggression against Georgia going back to the beginnings of the Soviet Union and has continued this until today. The UN will not be condemning Russia any time soon. First of all, Russia has a veto on the Security Council, and second Russia is not Israel. And unless it is supposed aggression by Israel, the UN will never condemn a nation for doing what they want to.

In my opinion this deal with Poland and the war between Russia and Georgia at the Ossetia cross roads is just the aligning of the pawns ready for the real pivotal battle of today's global conflict which is Iran v Israel.

This is the most serious and pivotal geo-political, and military cross roads of our era, it is something that our world and its future cannot escape from, and with every action there is a reaction, so once the spark happens our world will ignite. At the moment it is like the groundwork for the fire is just being put in place getting ready for the spark to ignite it.

Georgia is supported by America and is on Russia's border, with the oil pipeline that runs to the West running through Ossetia, so the stakes have been raised on both sides now with Russia moving in to take over control of the region, so maybe this means that the Iran conflict is just around the corner and these smaller contentions are just the precursor to that conflict, with the smaller pieces of the game being moved and positioned ready for the days that lay ahead.
Putin still believes Russia to be a superpower with the might of a superpower behind him. What Russia has become is a failed nation struggling to come to terms with its role in the world. Gone are the days of the Great Russian Empire known as the Soviet Union. Gone are its allies of the old Warsaw Pact. Today's reality is that Russia has to align itself with either the West or Islam. The West gave Russia the means to rebuild their nation after the disaster of the Soviet Union, but Putin, being the old KGB agent that he was, didn't align Russia with the West. Instead he has aligned his nation with Iran and Islam. Even though Iran and Islam is trying to destroy his land and power. He has made a terrible mistake. For he has the wolf by the ears and can't let go.
So instead of turning on Iran, Putin now tries to bully the former Warsaw Pact nations into doing what he wants. An even worse mistake. For if Russia attacks one NATO member, they will be attacking all NATO members. Putin is at the precipice, will he take his nation over?
Iran on the other hand is ruled by religious fanatics. To the rulers of Iran 1/3 to 1/2 of their people killed in a war would not faze them. Death is more favorable to Iranians than life. Thus a nuclear war with Israel or even the US would not deter them. Unless it is so devastating, so destructive that the leadership of Iran is either wiped out or finally comes to their senses. I fear that the current leadership in Iran with the fanatical Mullahs in charge of the nation could never become rational. So that will lead either Israel or the United State to wipe their leadership out. Hopefully in one blow. Then maybe the people of Iran can finally have the freedom that all people of the world deserve.
