Wednesday's Hero: Lt. Alan Wood

May 3, 1922 - April 18, 2013



Alan Wood didn't run into a burning building to rescue someone. He isn't credited with charging into the line of fire or piloting a damaged plane to save the crew. But he did play a role in what has become one of the most iconic images of all time. After nearly a month of heavy fighting U.S forces were able to capture the island of Iwo Jima. A flag was raised to seal the victory. When asked is anyone had a larger flag it was Lt. Wood who was able to provide one and a picture that has come to symbolize the sacrifice and heart of the military was taken. On April 18, Alan Wood passed away at the age of 90.

These brave men and women sacrifice so much in their lives just so others may get to enjoy freedom. For that I am proud to call them Hero.

UC San Diego Preventing Videotaping of MSA Events

Here is an update on the situation at UC San Diego as the Muslim Student Association began their week of anti-Israel events. Below is my initial report:

Last night, private security hired by event organizers prevented any video recording or audio recording of the event by outside persons.

This morning, a friend of mine called the UCSD Dean's office to inquire about the policy and to inform them of how the issue had been resolved at UC Irvine the previous week. My friend was told by  an unidentified woman that the UCSD had a "different interpretation of the law", had consulted with their own attorneys, and that the "organizers of the event" had requested that no public filming  be allowed. She  further advised that they would send their policy to my friend in writing.

Stand by.

I must make one correction to the video. The Muslim Brotherhood is not a designated terrorist organization.

Strong Solar Activity

Solar activity is high.  During a 24 hour period straddling May 13th and 14th, the sun unleashed three X-class solar flares.  These are the strongest flares of the year so far, and they signal a significant increase in solar activity.  The source of the flares, a large sunspot on the sun's eastern limb, appears poised to erupt again as it turns toward Earth.

MSA Intimidation at UC San Diego

I have been advised that the UC San Diego Muslim Student Association is kicking off their own version of Hate Week today through Thursday. I have also been advised that last year, the MSA, with the cooperation of the university, was able to prevent audience members from videotaping. Here is the sign that appeared last year.





I have also been told that the MSA uses their own security to enforce the video ban.

As previously documented on this site, UCSD was until recently  under the leadership of a Lavern and Shirley team identified as Chancellor Marye Anne Fox and vice chancellor Penny Rue. The new chancellor is Pradeep Khosla. They need to be set straight as to the law.

At a public event on a public site at a public university, audience members have the absolute right to videotape.

This is another example of intimidation, pure and simple. At UC Irvine last week, we didn't let them get away with it. I hope they won't be allowed to get away with it at UCSD. Private security or MSA members acting as security or enforcers can not take the place of campus police, who are the authorized guardians of order.

And guess who is speaking this week? Cynthia McKinney.......

....and Hatem Bazian, who, no doubt, will roll out his old power point presentation and read his talk. Hopefully, somebody in the audience will ask him about his reported past statements at Berkeley, where he  allegedly called for intifada in the US and referred to all the campus buildings with Jewish names on them. I have asked him about these alleged statements at UCI, and all I got was a song and dance for an answer.

Beware the Dictators of Virtue

America is becoming a more tolerant nation, we are told. Each new thing that we learn to tolerate makes us more progressive. But tolerance is a relative thing. For every new thing we learn to tolerate, there is a thing that we must stop tolerating.

Tolerance can only be allocated to so many places. The balance of tolerance and intolerance remains the same no matter how progressive a society becomes. A tolerant society only allocates its intolerance differently.

America today tolerates different things. It tolerates little boys dressing up as little girls at school, but not little boys pointing pencils and making machine gun noises on the playground.

The little boy whose mother dressed him up in girlish clothes once used to be a figure of contempt while the little boy pretending to be a marine was the future of the nation. Now the boy in the dress is the future of the nation having joined an identity group while the aspiring little marine is suspected of one day trading in his sharpened pencil for an assault rifle as soon as the next gun show comes to town.

The Duke of Wellington once said that the Battle of Waterloo was won on the playing-fields of Eton. What battles will the boys playing on the playgrounds where dodgeball is banned and finger guns are a crime win and what sort of nation will they be fighting to protect? The trouble with tolerance is that there is always someone deciding what to tolerate. A free society does not tolerate people; it allows them to live their own values. And a tolerant society is not free. It is a dictatorship of virtue that is intolerant toward established values in order to better tolerate formerly intolerable values.

A free society does not tell people of any religion or no religion what to believe. A tolerant society forces them all to pay for abortions because its dictators of virtue have decided that the time has come to teach this lesson in tolerance. An open society finds wisdom in its own uncertainty. A tolerant society, like a teenager, is certain that it already knows all the answers and lacks only the means of imposing them on others. It confuses its destruction of the past with progress and its sense of insecurity with righteousness.

To the tolerant, intolerance is the most powerful act possible. They solve problems by refusing to tolerate them. School shootings are carried out with guns and so the administrative denizens of the gun-free zones run campaigns of intolerance toward the physical existence of guns, the owners of guns, the manufacturers of guns, the civil rights groups that defend gun ownership and eventually toward John Puckle, Samuel Colt, John Moses Browning and the 82nd element in the periodic table.

None of this accomplishes a single practical thing, but it is an assertion of values. The paranoid mindset that cracks down on little boys who chew pop tarts into deadly shapes, little boys who point pencils and fingers at each other, is not out to stop school shootings, but is struggling to assert the intolerance of its tolerant value system over the reality of violence. It’s not about preventing school shootings, but about asserting a value system in which there is no place for the aspiring marine, unless he’s handing out food to starving children in Africa in a relief operation or serving as a model of gay marriage to rural America.

To understand the NRA’s argument about the moral value of a gun deriving from the moral value of the wielder would require a worldview that is more willing to accept a continuum of shades, rather than criminalizing pencils and pop tarts for guilt by geometric association. A free society could do that, but a tolerant society, in which everything must be assigned an unchanging value to determine whether it will be tolerated and enforced or not tolerated and outlawed, cannot.

That is as true of Newtown as it is of Boston. The same tolerant liberalism that can see deadly menace in a pencil or a pop tart is blind to the lethal threat of a Chechen Islamist. If a gun is innately evil, then a member of a minority group, especially a persecuted one, is innately good. In the real world, it may take bad guns to stop good Muslims, but the system just doubles down on encouraging students to recite the Islamic declaration of faith while suspending them for chewing their pop tarts the wrong way. Liberal values are at odds with reality and they are not about to let reality win. In their more tolerant nation, there is more room than ever for little boys who dream of one day setting off pressure cooker bombs at public events in the name of their religion, but very little room for little boys dreaming of being the ones to stop them.

The little boy in a dress has put on the uniform of tolerance while the little boy making rat tat noises with a pencil is showing strong signs of playing for the wrong team. The wrong team is the one that solves problems by shooting people, rather than writing denunciations of them to the tolerance department of diversity.

The complainer is the hero and the doer is the villain. Reporters and lawyers are the heroes because they are the arbiters of tolerance. Soldiers and police officers are the gun-happy villains because they respond to realities, rather than identities. They unthinkingly shoot without understanding the subtext.

A free society is practical. It acts in its own defense. A tolerant society acts to assert its values. The former fights terrorists and murderers, while the latter lets them go to show off its tolerant values.

This is the clash of values that holds true on the playground and on the battlefield of war. On the playground, little boys are suspended for waving around pencils and on the battlefield, soldiers are ordered not to defend themselves so that their country can win the hearts and minds of the locals in the endless Afghan Valentine’s Day that has stacked up a horrifying toll of bodies. In their cities, men and women are told to be tolerant, to extend every courtesy and to suspect nothing of the friendly Islamists in their neighborhoods. It is better to be blown up as a tolerant society, they are told, than to point the pop tart of intolerance on the great playground of the nanny state.

Let's Help out one of our Heroes

Not many people are aware that the Drug Enforcement Administration is active in Afghanistan. I have received the below message from the Association of Formal Federal Narcotic Agents, of which i am a member. One of our retired agents, Doug Driver, was critically injured in Afghanistan by  an IED. As the below letter describes, he needs some help.

Subject:  Request for Contributions to Support Doug Driver

Recently the AFFNA Board of Directors met at the Western Regional Conference in San Diego. During our meeting it came to our attention that one of AFFNA’s own, retired DEA Group Supervisor Doug Driver needs our support.

Many of you no doubt know Doug Driver of Jacksonville, FL. Among his many accomplishments during his DEA career, Doug was the DEA Case Agent whose investigative efforts led to the arrest and conviction of Carlos Lehder, a principle member of Colombia’s Medellin Cartel and one of the most important investigations in DEA’s history.

When the investigation began, Lehder had acquired Norman’s Cay in the Bahamas and was using the island to transship tons of cocaine from Colombia into the United States. Pursuant to Lehder’s arrest in Colombia he was immediately transported to Jacksonville, Florida where Doug spearheaded DEA’s successful conviction of Lehder and his co-defendants. Doug also worked in DEA offices in Los Angeles, Savannah, Georgia, Washington DC and Panama City, Panama.

Upon retirement from DEA, Doug began working for a company that provided law enforcement support to our soldiers in Afghanistan. He was embedded with U.S. Army combat units in remote areas of Afghanistan, providing leadership in conducting investigations into those groups responsible for the manufacture of IEDs against U.S. forces. Our young soldiers always expressed amazement at what a 62 year old man could do physically in a demanding climate and terrain so they nicknamed him, “Superman.”

In 2010, while on a mission to arrest two Afghan brothers who had manufactured an IED which had killed two American soldiers, Doug was severely injured by an IED.  

Because of Doug’s meticulous investigation of the IED which killed the two U.S. soldiers, he identified the two Afghan brothers responsible. While attempting to make the arrests in a remote village, another IED intended for Doug and his unit exploded and killed several Aghan citizens in the vicinity. Doug, who was close to the explosion, initially suffered a severe headache but later that night suffered a massive stroke, which left him in a coma for a period of time until he was transported to Germany and subsequently to the U.S for treatment. As a result of the stroke Doug has been left partially blind, with the inability to talk or walk and requires 24/7 medical assistance at his home in Jacksonville. Doug has all his mental capacity and is cognizant of everything but simply has limited use of his body.

As you can no doubt imagine the last few years have been very difficult for Doug and his wife Becky. His rehabilitation has been a long and difficult journey but both Doug and Becky have always been fighters. Along the way, they have had to battle against the insurance company to cover their medical costs and have had limited success due to several factors.  Some of their current needs are to obtain rehabilitation equipment for their home, making their home accessible for a handicapped person and many other requirements.   

The AFFNA Board of Directors is offering our members the opportunity to assist and join in the our efforts to support Doug’s valiant fight and determination to get well by asking that our members donate whatever they can in support of his requirements. We know that Doug and Becky will appreciate any contribution, no matter how great or how small.  The most important thing we can do as brother and sister DEA agents is to let Doug and his family know that they are not forgotten and we stand together with them in their struggle.

UC Irvine Hate Week Wrapup

The above picture of the "infamous" Apartheid Wall is truly representative of the week of events fostered upon the UC Irvine campus this week by the Muslim Student Union, with added sponsorship by Students for Justice in Palestine, the Black Student Union, and MECHA. The newly refurbished wall wound up needing more refurbishing after rain washed out the noon event at the flagpoles and forced the event indoors. In addition, Monday and Thursday's noon slots couldn't be filled with outside speakers. Not even Amir Abdel Malik Ali was available this year.

As it was, the events couldn't draw flies aside from the MSU kids themselves, most of whom appeared bored from listening to the same old lines they have been hearing for years from boring speakers that nobody ever heard of. It was clearly the scrubs filling in this year. Most of the events drew about 35 people- at the most 50-60. The biggest drawing event was on Wednesday night when their enemy Daniel Pipes appeared with a panel in a separate hall. As I noted in my early reports, the MSU spent the first couple of days trying to keep me from videotaping. Finally, it took the Dean of Students to advise them that we have something in this country called the First Amendment. They seem to think it only applies to them-certainly not to Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren or Gary Fouse.

What we heard this week was the same old drivel from a bunch of angry misfits who continue to preach victimhood to their bored and exhausted listeners. I say exhausted because hate week is certainly labor intensive for the MSU. Every morning, they have to pick up that "wall" from some storage place, truck it to UCI, assemble it, then sit through the events, take it down at 5 o'clock, then truck it back to the storage place before being on time for the 7:30 event, which apparently they never were because the two events I went to started late.

Of course, as always, the MSU insists on giving their recitation from the Koran and reading a preamble that insists they are not anti-Jewish and reject any form of bias or hate, be it ethnic or religious. Yet, I noted one interesting fact this year. Virtually every recitation from the Koran, when translated by the speaker into English, was focused on God's punishment for the disbelievers. How interesting. (I did not capture these on tape because, as a teacher at UCI, I do not feel it is appropriate for me to take pictures of students or film them.)

So that is pretty much what we heard. You know what we didn't hear?

Not a word about the flames burning throughout the Middle East, which Israel has nothing to do with.

Not a word about the violence, hate and persecution of Coptic Christians in Egypt.

Not a word about the murder of our diplomats in Benghazi and the craziness on-going in Libya.

Not a word about Syria, the 70,000+ killed, and the flight of the Syrian Christians.

Not a word about the mad mullahs in Iran, their developing nuclear bomb, and persecution of gays and Baha'i.

Not a word about the on-going massacres of Christians in Nigeria at the hands of Islamic Boko Haram.

Not a word about the Sudanese genocide against black Christians and animists and the refugees in Darfur.

Not a word about the killings between Sunnis and Shia in Iraq nor of the anti-Christian persecution in that country.

Not a word about the Sunni persecution of Christians in Pakistan as well as the persecution of Ahmadi Muslims by the Sunni.

Not a word about the last remaining Jews trying to get out of Yemen.

Not a word about the forced migration of some 700,000 Jews from Arab nations in 1948-49.

Not a word about the vicious anti-Jewish rhetoric across the Middle East.

Not a word about the daily harassment of Jews across Europe by young Muslim male immigrants.

And, of course, not a word about that most recent of events-the Boston marathon massacre.

No, folks. The problem, you see, is Israel.

I would like to make another point, which I made during a previous year; If non-verbal communication means anything, I think the MSU is sending a wrong message to the rest of the student body. Aside from the angry rhetoric and some speakers with their anti-American rhetoric (a wave to my friend Sohail Daulatzai), what kind of message is the MSU trying to send with their militant-looking black and red t-shirts with the word "Struggle"  emblazoned across, the red bandannas and armbands? Are they trying to intimidate people? If so, it is not working. All you have to do is watch the UCI students passing by on their way to lunch or class. With rare exceptions, they do not stop. They do not look. They just keep going. If non-verbal communication means anything (and I pay attention to non-verbal communication), they are either oblivious to it or annoyed.

Because that is what the MSU is on our campus-an annoyance. It is because of the MSU activities over the years (need I mention Michael Oren?) that UCI has suffered a black eye in the view of the nation when the other 99% of students have made it an otherwise great university. The only thing the MSU is accomplishing is  lending credence to the notion that they are radical and threatening. After all, when you routinely bring in radical speakers, you do take ownership of them.

But that is what I told the MSU last May when Amir Abdel Malik Ali called UC President Mark Yudof a "Zionist Jew".

Final verdict? The MSU flopped this year.

Day 4 at UC Irvine Hate Week

Was it something I said, Professor?

The circus has folded its tent for the year, mercifully. UC Irvine's annual May extravaganza, where the Muslim Student Union brings in the usual speakers to attack Israel wound up last night as two professors, one from UCLA and one from UC Irvine repeated the same stuff that is said every year about Israel and the poor Palestinians. Last night, it was Prof. Robin Kelley of UCLA and Sohail Daulatzai from UCI. The audience consisted of about 50 students, mostly all MSU members listening to the same old stuff they had been listening to all week and the previous years.

Kelley talked for a few minutes about traveling to Israel last year with a group of other professors as part of a "fact-finding" team (my words not his) sponsored by one of those pro-boycott groups. As he spoke, the big screen showed a series of slides of Palestinian villages, which didn't exactly remind me of Geneva. Oh well. I'm not sure what the point was.

Then Sohail Daulatzai spoke and told of how the Israelis refused to allow him into their country when he arrived at the airport.

 (I wouldn't have allowed him in either.)

During the presentation, Daulatzai periodically inserted references to all the "similar things" that were happening here in America while attacking Israel's human rights record (I am paraphrasing). He referred to the US-Mexico border, the inner city, and other US issues; human rights, social justice, blah blah blah, woof woof woof, quack quack quack.. A couple of times, he referred to little ol' me sitting in the audience and filming. At one point, he waved at me. I waved back.)

If you want to punish yourself by watching the video, be my guest. Suffice to say the fun began during the q and a. (First there was a moderated q and a where the moderator posed about 4 questions to the panel. Then audience members were allowed to come to the mic, ask a respectful question pertinent to the topic and return to their seats like good little clones before the question would be answered. No follow-ups desired, you see).

My question regarded Malcolm X, (whom Daulatzai had mentioned) and was directed to him. I referred him to a recent (virulently anti-American article he had written for Al Jazeera on Malcolm. I read the following sentence from the article to him and the audience:

"....To ignore this falls into the worst forms of liberal internationalism that presume the US to be a force for good in the world, and it replicates the very problem that Malcolm X heroically against,  and was ultimately killed for." 

Talk about truthers!

I continued that I was a young man in this country when Malcolm was killed, that he was murdered by the Nation of Islam because he had left the Nation, had publicly criticized it, and had exposed the corruption and sexual abuses of Elijah Mohammed. I then returned to the article in its entirety, which I described as virulently anti-American and asked him which he hatred most-Israel or America. The article is linked below. I invite the reader to judge the tone of the article. The above quote is on the last page just prior to the conclusion.

Of course, I got derisive laughter from the audience. A young lady waiting in line behind me smiled at me and clapped as I returned to my seat. A friendly face, I thought. Boy, was I to be surprised. Meanwhile, all the flowers in the room died when I finished my question. Daulatzai was not amused. In his response ( I am paraphrasing), he referred to me as one who had written a previous article about him and asked me to confirm I was the writer. I replied from my seat that it could have been, but I wasn't sure which article he was referring to. He then went on to describe the article as having been written about what he said at an earlier event at UCI even though I wasn't present. (He was referring to Muslim Awareness week earlier this year when he was one of the speakers, but I wasn't able to attend.) I responded that to my recollection I had only written about his background not what he said. Below is the article in question. I think it conclusively shows that I did not comment on the content of Daulatzai's talk (only the announced title), but that I wrote about his previous writings and statements about the US, which I take exception to. So he misstated the facts to the audience.

Anyway, Daulatzai bitterly rebuked me for making "ad hominem attacks" against him. He questioned the propriety of one teacher at a university writing such an article about another and added rather ominously, "Duly noted", whatever that meant.  As to the Malcolm X quote, he pointed out all the information about how  US state agencies had been targeting and monitoring him. He acknowledged that "black hands had pulled the trigger", but that there were other forces at work and that I should do more research into this as opposed to researching him (Daulatzai). In referring to the question of which country he hated more. He ended by saying that he thought that if I did said research, I would answer my own question. I replied that he had, indeed, answered the question. (Again, I am paraphrasing. The reader may  view the video.)

Then the aforementioned young lady stepped to the mic. I thought she was going to ask a critical question, but instead she identified herself as a Palestinian (not a student) and proceeded to tell the audience they were going to want to listen to what she had to say.  She then launched into an impassioned speech complimenting the panel and telling them to keep up the fight or something to that effect. (It's on the tape). As she continued in her diatribe, her voice rising, I wondered if they would have allowed me to make a long, rambling speech like that.

Instead, they listened intently as she gestured wildly, arms in the air and pointing at the ceiling while she passionately informed us that she was involved in BDS (Boycott Divest and Sanctions) in Turkey and the UK.

I also noticed the lady wasn't wearing any shoes. (Probably, the Israelis took them away from her.) At any rate, I decided that it was a good time to bid adieu to my MSU friends for the year as I hadn't had dinner and listening to the same old drivel works up a hungry appetite. (For all you UC Santa Cruz History of Consciousness and Community Studies majors, adieu means "so long" in French.) So I left as the Barefoot Contessa was still giving her rant. All this time, Daulatzai was seated at the panel table with an angry look on his face.

Duly noted.

I will have a closing report and comment on the week's activities in the next day or so. Suffice to say, UCI can now get back to being a pleasant campus for the next 12 mont

UC Irvine Hate Week Day 4 : The Self Pity Has No Borders

The theme for the Muslim Student Union's annual hate Israel week this year is, "The Struggle has no borders." Today, it should have read, "The Self Pity Has no Borders". Like Monday, there was no scheduled speaker. Today, some MSU students took turns at the mic expressing their rage at Israel, the university, and several other complaints. Since they were students, I (as a UCI teacher) chose not to videotape them. I won't bother to name them either. As all week, there was an audience of about 40 or so people mostly MSU members.

Suffice to say that their talks (or poems) were filled with anger, victimization, blame, and self pity. A couple of students berated the university for "discriminating" against them. A couple of non-Muslims spoke, one a young lady from the Black Student Union, who related her own issues to the Palestinian struggle. A young Hispanic guy who claimed to be a former UCI student and "undocumented" read a poem about the "Irvine 11".



Ah wunnerful, ah wunnerful, ah."


You see, it all ties in; Israel, the Palestinians, university discrimination against the MSU, civil rights in America, and on and on.

What I saw and heard today was a series of victims. No doubt many if not all of these young people have had it drummed into their heads by their professors that they are victims. The sad part of it is that if one goes through life feeling like a victim, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy.

Tonight, hate week mercifully fizzles out with a couple of professors speaking.

We watched high school principal Dennis Prager of Colorado , along with Sara Palin and Tom Brokaw on TV a couple of weeks ago….what a dynamic, down to earth speaker. Even though Palin and Brokaw were also guest speakers they did little but nod and agree with him.

A Speech Every American High School Principal Should Give.

To the students and faculty of our high school:

I am your new principal, and honored to be so.
There is no greater calling than to teach young people.

I would like to apprise you of some important changes coming to our school. I am making these changes because I am convinced that some ideas that have dominated public education in America have worked against you, against your teachers and against our country.

First, this school will no longer honor race or ethnicity.
I could not care less if your racial makeup is black, brown, red, yellow or white. I could not care less if your origins are African, Latin American, Asian or European, or if your ancestors arrived here on the Mayflower or on slave ships. The only identity I care about, the only one this school will recognize, is your individual identity — your character, your scholarship, your humanity. And the only national identity this school will care about is American.

This is an American public school, and American public schools were created to make better Americans. If you wish to affirm an ethnic, racial or religious identity through school, you will have to go elsewhere. We will end all ethnicity, race and non-American nationality-based celebrations. They undermine the motto of America , one of its three central values — epluribus Unum, “from many, one.” And this school will be guided by America ‘s values. This includes all after-school clubs. I will not authorize clubs that divide students based on any identities. This includes race, language, religion, sexual orientation or whatever else may become in vogue in a society divided by political correctness.

Your clubs will be based on interests and passions, not blood, ethnic, racial or other physically defined ties. Those clubs just cultivate narcissism — an unhealthy preoccupation with the self — while the purpose of education is to get you to think beyond yourself. So we will have clubs that transport you to the wonders and glories of art, music, astronomy, languages you do not already speak, carpentry and more. If the only extracurricular activities you can imagine being interested in are those based on ethnic, racial or sexual identity, that means that little outside of yourself really interests you.

Second, I am uninterested in whether English is your native language. My only interest in terms of language is that you leave this school speaking and writing English as fluently as possible. The English language has united America ‘s citizens for over 200 years, and it will unite us at this school. It is one of the indispensable reasons this country of immigrants has always come to be one country. And if you leave this school without excellent English language skills, I would be remiss in my duty to ensure that you will be prepared to successfully compete in the American job market. We will learn other languages here — it is deplorable that most Americans only speak English — but if you want classes taught in your native language rather than in English, this is not your school.

Third, because I regard learning as a sacred endeavor , everything in this school will reflect learning’s elevated status. This means, among other things, that you and your teachers will dress accordingly. Many people in our society dress more formally for Hollywood events than for church or school. These people have their priorities backward. Therefore, there will be a formal dress code at this school.

Fourth, no obscene language will be tolerated anywhere on this school’s property — whether in class, in the hallways or at athletic events. If you can’t speak without using the f -word, you can’t speak. By obscene language I mean the words banned by the Federal Communications Commission, plus epithets such as “Nigger,” even when used by one black student to address another black, or “bitch,” even when addressed by a girl to a girlfriend. It is my intent that by the time you leave this school, you will be among the few your age to instinctively distinguish between the elevated and the degraded, the holy and the obscene.

Fifth, we will end all self-esteem programs. In this school, self-esteem will be attained in only one way — the way people attained it until decided otherwise a generation ago — by earning it. One immediate consequence is that there will be one valedictorian, not eight.

Sixth, and last, I am reorienting the school toward academics and away from politics and propaganda. No more time will be devoted to scaring you about smoking and caffeine, or terrifying you about sexual harassment or global warming. No more semesters will be devoted to condom wearing and teaching you to regard sexual relations as only or primarily a health issue… There will be no more attempts to convince you that you are a victim because you are not white, or not male, or not heterosexual or not Christian. We will have failed if any one of you graduates this school and does not consider him or herself inordinately fortunate — to be alive and to be an American.

Now, please stand and join me in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of our country. As many of you do not know the words, your teachers will hand them out to you.

If all schools nationwide adopted this ideology for their schools, I know we would all be better off!

In Defense of Tammi Rossman-Benjamin at UC Santa Cruz

As I have previously reported, Tammi Rossman-Benjamin is an adjunct teacher of Hebrew at UC Santa Cruz (America's Wackiest University). She has been relentless and courageous in making complaints about anti-Semitism on UC and CSU campuses. In response to her activities in standing up to anti-Semitism, she has been the object of relentless attacks by the various UC Muslim Student Association and Students for Justice in Palestine chapters, as well as something called the Committee for Justice in Palestine. In the past weeks, student governments at UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara and UC Irvine -under pressure from these groups-have passed resolutions urging that UC President Mark Yudof and other UC officials condemn her publicly as an "Islamophobe". These resolutions are evidence of just how organized and coordinated these groups are.

In response, Tammi's organization, AMCHA Initiative, has issued the below-linked release. You can also access Tammi's letter to President Yudof and write one yourself in Tammi's defense. I will be doing so. Rather than condemn Tammi, Yudof and the respective chancellers should be making a strong statement in defense of her right to free speech and condemning this vicious campaign to smear and intimidate her.

Jerusalem!!

46 years ago today the City of David, Jerusalem was reunited after being cut into 2 by the Jordanians and the United Nation.  For 19 years no Jew, no Christian was allowed to worship at their holy places.  In fact, the tombstones on the Mount of Olives Cemetery (One of the oldest Jewish Cemeteries in the world.) were used by the Jordanians as paving stones, building stones, even to make latrines.  And the world said nothing.  Not a peep.

On an almost daily basis, snipers on the walls of the Old City would open fire on Israeli civilians.  And the world said nothing.  Not a peep.

To solve this issue and stop the gunfire, orders were given to liberate the Old City.  And the IDF came through with skill.  The City of David was unified.  All people were free to worship at their holy places.

Today as Israel and Jews around the world celebrate 46 years of a unified Jerusalem, President Barack Hussein Obama is demanding that the city be split into 2 again.  And the world is cheering him on.

Forget about what happened the last time the city was divided to appease the Arabs.  Forget that for 46 years the city has been whole, united.  Forget that under the Arabs only Muslims could pray at in the city, Jews and Christians were forbidden.  That means nothing to those who have been appeasing the Arabs in the hope that they finish the job Hitler started.

April 13, 1942 - January 22, 1968


The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pride in presenting the Medal of Honor (Posthumously) to Captain Lance Peter Sijan, United States Air Force, for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty while serving with the 366th Tactical Fighter Wing, 480th Tactical Fighter Squadron, as a Prisoner of War being held in Laos and North Vietnam. On 9 November 1967, while on a flight over North Vietnam, Captain Sijan ejected from his disabled aircraft and successfully evaded capture for more than six weeks. During this time, he was seriously injured and suffered from shock and extreme weight loss due to lack of food. After being captured by North Vietnamese soldiers, Captain Sijan was taken to a holding point for subsequent transfer to a prisoner of war camp. In his emaciated and crippled condition, he overpowered one of his guards and crawled into the jungle, only to be recaptured after several hours. He was then transferred to another prison camp where he was kept in solitary confinement and interrogated at length. During interrogation, he was severely tortured; however, he did not divulge any information to his captors. Captain Sijan lapsed into delirium and was placed in the care of another prisoner. During his intermittent periods of consciousness until his death, he never complained of his physical condition and, on several occasions, spoke of future escape attempts. Captain Sijan's extraordinary heroism and intrepidity above and beyond the call of duty at the cost of his life are in keeping with the highest traditions of the U.S. Air Force and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Armed Forces.

Miko Peled at UC Irvine

The Muslim Student Union at UC Irvine is off to a stumbling start in the first two days of its annual bash-Israel week of "events". Today's noon speaker was Miko Peled, an Israeli who hates everything his country stands for. I will be posting the video, but suffice to say, his talk consisted of trashing his country from one end to the other. You would have thought he was talking about Nazi Germany. There were about 35 people in the room, mostly MSU members as well as some Hillel members, a couple of pro-Israel Jews from the community and 3-4 middle-aged people whom I would call "useful idiots" (More about that later.) Of course, at the outset, the moderator announced that no videotaping could be done without the "express consent of the MSU". I dutifully raised my hand and once again informed them of the right to film. I said that unless I was ordered to stop by a campus police officer or a dean, I would film, and I did. The dean of students was in the room and made no move to stop me.

During his talk, Peled referred to me breaking the rules and being rude by not following the directions. I replied that I was following the law and that this was the United States of America. I kept filming. Having seen previous videos of Peled speaking, he was clearly off his game.

The useful idiots in the front row were giving me dirty looks.

In the beginning of his speech, Peled referred to the so-called "Irvine 11" the UCI-UC Riverside students who were convicted of a misdemeanor for disrupting the speech of the Israeli ambassador to the US in 2010. Peled said he was proud to be speaking before the UCI-MSU.

As usual, the Q and A was designed to prevent audience members from really making points or asking follow ups. This time it was form a line to the right. We will take three questions. After you ask your question, return to your seat. After all three questions were asked, Peled would answer all of them together.

The result was that he didn't really answer anything. I chose to remain in my seat. If an Israeli guy hates his own country that much, what's to argue about? Things got heated when one of my Jewish friends tried to ask a question but kept getting interrupted. Rabbi Zevi Tenenbum, whom I had blasted in a posting earlier this morning walked up to the mic and asked Peled how he could be proud to speak at the same podium where Jew-haters like Amir Abdel Malik Ali had spoken. He got no real answer. I complemented Rabbi Tenenbaum after the event and told him I was making an addition to my earlier post.

Another Jewish friend of mine went up to Peled after the event and asked him about his effort to stop someone from filming in the US. He ignored the question and was ushered out the door by his MSU retinue as my friend called him a coward.

In addition, the dean of students came up to me afterward and told me he had explained to the students that I did, indeed, have a right to film.

But the creme de la creme was when one of my Jewish friends was being lectured by one of the aforementioned useful idiots as she criticized Israel. At one point, my friend mentioned something about the Boston attack as "American citizens killing American citizens". To that the woman replied, "We still don't know yet if it was the Tsarnaev brothers".

I will close on that note. I am planning to skip the evening event because it will be the same arrogant speaker. I have heard enough.

Sahar Francis at UC Irvine

Sahar Francis is a Palestinian human rights activist whose cause is the Palestinians held in Israeli prisons. On the evening of May 6, she spoke at UC Irvine on behalf of the Muslim Student Union. Her organization is called Addameer. The audience consisted of about 30-35 people all but a handful were MSU members.

Prior to the event, I spoke with two UCI campus police officers who were in attendance though not inside the hall. I asked them what their policy was regarding members of the public videotaping these events since I had recently been advised on two occasions by the MSU and Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) that videotaping was prohibited. On both occasions, I informed them that since these were public events on public university campuses that I had right right to film and would do so unless ordered by campus police not to. On this occasion I was told by the officers that filming was OK and they would talk to the MSU about it. The officers anticipated that a special area might be set up for filming. I showed him my hand held video camera, and was told there would be no problem.

Sure enough, the moderator introducing Francis stated that no filming would be allowed. At that point, I walked outside to find the officers, but they were nowhere in sight. I returned to the hall and proceeded to film. Within five minutes, a male MSU student approached me and told me filming was not allowed. As in the past, I informed him that this was a public event at a public university and that I had a legal right to film. I asked him to go and get the campus police since I would only stop filming if ordered to do so by the campus police. The police never came in and I proceeded to film until my camera ran out of battery during the q and a.

As for Ms Francis' speech, I am posting it, but suffice to say if you want to know what she said, go ahead and torture yourself for an hour. She speaks in a monologue and is so boring she makes Harry Reid sound like a Little Richard concert. That's how bad a speaker she is although she speaks without notes. The thesis of her talk was that Israel is violating human rights against Palestinian prisoners. I watched the audience, and I got the impression she lost them she was so boring.

As for the q and a, I asked her if she was advocating for the release of such prisoners as the Awad brothers, who in 2011 committed the horrific Fogel massacre in Itamar, wherein they murdered a family of five including three children, ages 11, 4 and 3 months-an infant in its crib who had its throat slashed. I won't try to repeat her non-answer-you can judge it for yourself in the video. I and two like-minded friends got up and walked out rather than listen to any more of her tripe.

Upon leaving, I related what had happened to the two campus cops and suggested they explain the law to the MSU so as to avoid future "misunderstandings". They indicated they would speak with them and relay the matter to the Judicial Affairs office of UCI.

I should be able to get the video up tomorrow.

My question to Francis comes just before the 17 minute mark of the second video. Note the directions regarding questions that the moderator gives in order to prevent follow up questions..

Obama Brokering Deal To Contain Nuclear Iran?

Just a few days ago, we published a piece entitled: "Get Ready for a Nuclear Iran."  The thrust of the piece was that Obama will not make any attempt to stop Iran from developing an atomic bomb or a missile delivery system for nuclear warheads, but will, in fact, allow Iran to continue their endeavor for nuclear weapons.  We hypothesized in that commentary that Obama was developing a strategy of "containment" of a nuclear Iran -- because he knows he is not going to make an attempt to stop them and indeed, doesn't want Israel to stop them, either.

Here is just a snippet of what we said in that writing:  "...  it provides no comfort knowing that Iran is closing on its desire to have its very own nuclear bomb, which it intends to drop on Israel and the United States at the earliest opportunity.


It should come as no surprise when the Obama administration rolls out their plans for "containment of a nuclear Iran."  Many have felt for some time that was Obama's ultimate goal all the while. Understand: The Arab nations are scared witless of the Persian nation. If Iran is allowed to possess a nuclear bomb, expect all the Arab nations in the region to go nuclear almost overnight -- in self defense.  They won't waste time with developing their own nuclear programs, they will simply purchase nuclear bombs and missiles and be done with it.

Now -- allow me to ask you -- how much safer will YOU feel if and when the entire Middle East is armed to the teeth with nuclear bombs and missiles?" We encourage you to read the entire article at.

Today, Sunday May 5th, 2013, at Israelnationalnews.com there is an article by Gil Ronen  entitled:  "Israel'Opting to Contain' Nuclear Iran?" Report in Sunday Times says U.S. is brokering a deal between Israel, Saudis, Jordan, Turkey and UAE."

The opening paragraph of Mr. Ronen's pieces says the following:  "Israel is considering partnering with several Sunni-Muslim Arab states in a U.S.-brokered defense alliance that would be aimed at containing a nuclear Iran, the Sunday Times reported, citing an unnamed Israeli official." (Emphasis by underlining is mine.) SOURCE

If the Obama administration is seriously thinking they can be successful at containing a nuclear Iran, they are kidding themselves.  And it is a dangerous joke.

Look. The US has been attempting to "contain" Iran since the Carter administration and we see where that has gotten us.  Even today we have an iron wall of naval warships stationed just off shore of Iran.  We have forward deployed troops in neighboring countries on continuous alert. We have satellites, drones, recon aircraft of every kind, plus electronic surveillance 24-7, all aimed at containing a NON-nuclear Iran. Plus, all the sanctions on Iran by the UN.  It hasn't phased them, at all.

In an article at the Heritage Foundation website they plainly state the following:  "While the Obama Administration maintains that the military option is on the table, it has done little to convince Tehran that it is serious. If this trend continues, containment of a nuclear Iran will become the default option for the United States. Before this happens, the Administration should carefully weigh the costs, risks, benefits, and feasibility of such a policy."  (Emphasis by underlining is mine.)  SOURCE

The very same article goes on to say:  "The manifest failure of U.S. efforts to contain Iranian influence and deter attacks on Americans in the past 30 years should raise alarms about the much greater difficulty inherent in containing and deterring Tehran after it acquires nuclear weapons. To argue the merits of containment now that Iran is on the verge of acquiring nuclear weapons is to argue for a policy that has been tried for decades— a policy that is now close to an enormous defeat because of the progress of Iran’s nuclear program."   SOURCE

Obama continues to promise, publicly anyway, that "all options are on the table."   That phrase is SUPPOSED to mean a military strike is an option.  The problem is -- nobody believes Obama anymore -- especially the mullahs in Iran.  Heck, I don't even believe him -- as you can plainly see from this commentary.

President Theodore Roosevelt is credited with saying:  "Walk softly -- and carry a BIG stick."  Mr. Obama would do well to heed Teddy's advice.  It is not helpful when the President publicly threatens to act when certain degrees of hostility have been reached by the offending force ... as in Obama's recent back-down when the Syrians boldly crossed the "red line" Obama, himself, imposed.

A Commander-in-Chief should never threaten unless he intends to act to back up his threat.  Unfortunately, Mr. Obama has now told the world that America's word cannot be trusted, that America issues empty threats, and Obama has underscored the belief by many nations around the globe today that America, today, is a nation of lions led by a sheep.

This bad, very bad.

My dear friend Patriot USA is in dire need of both funds and prayers.  As many know, Patriot USA had major spinal surgery this last month.  He is unable to work, unsure that he will have a job to return to, and the bills are piling up.  Recently he had to spend big bucks on the repairs to his car.  (OK his wife's car.)  Thus depleting his savings.  His wife is out of work and has one child in college and a child in High School.  Things are getting so bad that even AJ, his dog is feeling the pinch.

Not what you expect to see! Dancing with a "Wounded Warrior" who has lost a leg, but she still dances.

And he does this with no expectation or desire for publicity.  Most of us hadn't even heard of these weekends.

I like many of you that passed through HQS back in the day knew and worked with Peggy Alexander, very bright and helpful lady. Dave tells me that two of her neices were injured in the Boston bomb attack. You probably saw both of them on the news as their story is compelling. I am repeating Dave's note below.

Lake Wales, Florida – The DailyRidge.Com has learned that the father of Boston Marathon bombing victims Erika Brannock and Nicole Gross lives and works here in Lake Wales. The sisters were injured in Boston while waiting for their mother (Carol Downing) to finish the marathon. Erika, Nicole and Nicole’s husband Michael Gross were apparently standing in front of the Lens Crafters building when one of the bombs went off. We have been told that the women’s father is Wayne Brannock who works at the Lake Wales Medical Center. Mr. Brannock is currently in Boston with his daughters we have been advised.

Erika Brannock, 29, who teaches preschoolers at Trinity Episcopal Church in Towson, Maryland, has had her left leg amputated below the knee according to media reports. It is estimated that she will remain in the hospital for another month as she tries to recover from her injuries. Her sister Nicole Gross suffered multiple fractures of both legs, a severed Achilles and has undergone mulitiple surgery’s. Nicole’s image went viral (Symbol of Tragedy) after the bombing and it was featured on the cover of the New York Daily News (Link to photo).

It is at times like these that the DEA family comes together, both present and former employees. Many of you may not know that the DEA office in Oklahoma City was located in the federal building that was bombed. We lost five of our people that day.

For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. As pilot of an F-105 aircraft, Lieutenant Colonel Thorsness was on a surface-to-air missile suppression mission over North Vietnam. Lieutenant Colonel Thorsness and his wingman attacked and silenced a surface-to-air missile site with air-to-ground missiles and then destroyed a second surface-to-air missile site with bombs. In the attack on the second missile site, Lieutenant Colonel Thorsness’ wingman was shot down by intensive antiaircraft fire, and the two crewmembers abandoned their aircraft. Lieutenant Colonel Thorsness circled the descending parachutes to keep the crewmembers in sight and relay their position to the Search and Rescue Center. During this maneuver, a MIG-17 was sighted in the area. Lieutenant Colonel Thorsness immediately initiated an attack and destroyed the MIG. Because his aircraft was low on fuel, he was forced to depart the area in search of a tanker. Upon being advised that two helicopters were orbiting over the downed crew’s position and that there were hostile MIGs in the area posing a serious threat to the helicopters, Lieutenant Colonel Thorsness, despite his low fuel condition, decided to return alone through a hostile environment of surface-to-air missile and anti-aircraft defenses to the downed crew’s position. As he approached the area, he spotted four MIG-17 aircraft and immediately initiated an attack on the MIGs, damaging one and driving the others away from the rescue scene. When it became apparent that an aircraft in the area was critically low on fuel and the crew would have to abandon the aircraft unless they could reach a tanker, Lieutenant Colonel Thorsness, although critically short on fuel himself, helped to avert further possible loss of life and a friendly aircraft by recovering at a forward operating base, thus allowing the aircraft in emergency fuel condition to refuel safely. Lieutenant Colonel Thorsness’ extraordinary heroism, self-sacrifice and personal bravery involving conspicuous risk of life were in the highest traditions of the military service, and have reflected great credit upon himself and the U.S. Air Force.
